It wasn't just a class thing. An awful lot of people who wanted and support a total ban on hunting, could probably be described as 'lower' class. IMO and experience, ignorance is a big factor. They believe all the shit they're told by the media, about animals not needing to be controlled (and all control methods are cruel), and what they see in most of the wildlife programmes on tv where animals are given names and portrayed as having human traits etc. If only people took the time to look deeper and see the reality.....

Some of us did quite a bit to try and stop the ban, after all, I've been working dogs for nearly my whole life. But as far as your question - WHO GIVE A FOOOOK WHAT THE ANTIS SAY, unfortunately, I've learned that the people who make the decisions seem to! was not a qestion more an oppinion , but my point being why give them more ammo I agree fully, we shouldn't give them more ammo. I feel strongly that instead of followers of one branch of fieldsports slagging off anothers methods as being wrong, or unsporting, we'd all be better supporting each other. -

Some interesting claims. It seems some people assume shooting Foxes only started after the ban on hunting with dogs. Foxes were shot with rifles and shotguns (and snared, gassed, trapped etc) long before the ban. Also, assuming all rifle shooters sit in jeeps just waiting for all the Foxes in the area to wander past and sacrifice themselves is way wide of the mark, and shows the blinkered views of some. Many rifle shooters (myself included) walk miles at night in all weathers, over ground that no vehicle can travel, carrying rifle, lamp, battery etc. I often used to do this after a full day -

You're wrong there! I bet there's a lot of rifle lads besides me who enjoy other forms of Foxing too. IMO it's every man to his chosen sport, and we should all be supportive of each other as long as everything's done right. After all, the antis and the ill informed spout enough shit and lies about all forms of hunting, without any of us having a go. Good points there that will unfortunately fall on deaf ears for some.....some folk are just pig ignorant in there views....... Never were truer words spoken Lab. But never mind. It's how I've always felt, and hopefully always will . -

That should fix back together with some epoxy adhesive. You can get it from B&Q for around £5.

I've just adjusted the trigger on mine too. I didn't really mind the pull as it was, but after adjusting it down, I find it better still. -

It's probably obvious, but one bit of advice before you choose a scope is to check its low light performance. The image clarity of some scopes can be brilliant in good daylight, but drops drastically once the light starts to fade. Hope you get a good un . -

That's the best thing to do. Spend time now finding which rifle (and mod) feels best for you, and which scope you think will suit your type of shooting. If possible also try out some mates set ups. That way when you buy, it'll be only the once! -

would you not rate a ziess or leupold for that sort of money though? get a very nice secondhand one for that price. The Meopta is shit hot,, a superb scope, and I bought it secondhand for 200 quid !!!! hawke money,, and believe me it performs,, you would have to spend a lot of cash to find much better . Bought mine new several years ago, and looked at many different makes before eventually deciding on the Meopta, as the image quality and build was equal to or better than any other within my budget. The reticule on mine is cross hairs but with thick posts at the outside, and thin -

I use a Howa 1500, stainless, with synthetic stock, fitted fith a Meopta Artemis 2100 3-12x50 I.R scope, and Wildcat Predator 8 mod. I use 80gr psp factory ammo on both Foxes and Roe. I think it's a brilliant set up . -
This is my way too. Get to know your ground well, learn the size of the fields, and use landmarks such as trees in hedgelines, gates etc as reference points for estimating range. No matter how well you know the land at daytime, distance at night always appears vastly different.
-
Tut Tut Sako, haven't you realised that it's bad practice to take long range shots at Foxes? . Get closer next time!! Seriously though, I bet most have missed close ones before - I know I have . This has reminded me of a Fox I shot with the .22 many years ago. A local smallholder had lost several Geese, and I was asked to see if I could get the culprit. I was sat with my back against a fence post, and after only a couple of minutes calling, a set of eyes appeared in the distance, and proceeded to come in at a gallop, and only slowed down when it was almost on top of me. I ended up

Why eat wild game / meat ?

All the above reasons, plus you know when and how it was killled, and prepared. -
It is the same one, and I find you can clearly identify a fox at about 250+ yards, and bright eye shine at probably 400 and more. I've found that some nights 200 yards is about the limit, and I put this is down to the fact that the pure white LED light is more easily affected by atmospheric conditions than the orangeish beam of the halogen lamps. As I said before, it's not got the reach of some of the other lamps. but I find it more than adequate, and there's absolutely no noticeable difference in the rifles weight or balance when it's fitted, which I find perfect when out alone on foot. I sh

Will as soon as I figure out how to post pics on here now....

The pressure switch was silent, and pretty rugged like the rest of the tiablo, but I often need to take shots from a variety of different positiions, so having to keep my front hand in one position on the stock in order to keep the light on was a real pain. I've seen the HId lights advertised too, and they do seem very good, but I've not been able to see one in use, to decide whether or not they live up to the claims. I'm not sure what scope mounted light I'd go for if I could have any I chose, and I'm always looking to improve on some aspects in order to make things easier, but it would pre

You're right about there always being a 'but' leeroy. I changed the stock mounted switch on the Tiablo from the original pressure switch which needed constant pressure or the light switched off, to a simple rocker switch, this is silent and means you can have your front hand anywhere on the stock, after you've turned the lamp on. I also swapped the original scope mounting bracket which requires an allen key for fitting and removal, for a clulite one. With this set up, it's simple to attach or adjust the lamp in complete darkness if needed. Let us know how you find the A10. As I said before, i

Not What I Expected To Find........!

Never mind the numpties, it's interesting and always enjoyable to see and read about something a bit different -
I think LED lamps are quite a way from equalling traditional lamps on beam length, especially the blitz. But I use a Tiablo A10 G LED, when lamping alone and on foot. I chose this lamp because it was the brightest of the ones I tried, and it's very well manufactured. There's also no noticeable extra weight or bulkiness on the rifle, which is a big factor for me when covering several miles, so I decided I'd accept the shorter useable range (though I find it easily illuminates a fox at well over 200 yards), in exchange for more portability, and far less weary legs and back, the next morning!
