The greatest guns you ever regretted parting with.
jasper65 replied to pianoman's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hello Simon I remember picking this gun up from the local Gunsmith after reading a glowing report about it on test in Airgun World, don't quote me on this as my memory isn't perfect these days but I think they recorded it back then spitting out Eley Wasps at around 875FPS. I traded in a BSA Super Meteor and a standard BSA Mercury paired up with a Original 4x32 scope plus £30 odd quid, The Mercury S was amazing with its 12 Groove Barrel, I also had a MK1 Airsporter S in .177 which came in from a Gun dealer back then in Lowerstoft! this was a lovely gun too but a bit heavy for my likin -

My Old BSA Mercury S .177 Fitted with a Tasco fixed 2.75x40 scope . I mopped up alot of vermin with this rifle 1980-83. my best pal who I used to shoot with took his own life by hanging in the local subway near to him in 83, when I attended the funeral as expected his younger brother took it really bad and was pretty broken up, one evening to help him through his grief I jumped on my Cowhorn push bike and and rode round his to give him my gun I know he loved. the funny thing is another pal a couple of years back found out where is was and brought it round for me to look at, I obvious -
Nowt wrong with a Kestral! Lovely little birds. its the bird I started with and a good few others, alot of fun to the lure and will chase the odd dicky bird. for some reason the one's I had in the past all liked to bite but was pretty delicate P/R flying at around for a the males 6 1/2 - 6 1/4 oz's.

Probably a good idea to get out with some Falconers or get a couple a decent book FAH. there's plenty of old books out there or even from the Library with most of the info you need.

Just seen this Mick! what a nightmare mate but I'm glad it had a happy ending mate . been there a few times in the past with a bird out all night, always got there just before first light hopeing the bird hasn't moved far from its original position. I used to fly a Redtail a few years back without Telemetry! he was off on one bigtime on one occasion in about his 4th season, by this time which was my fault he self hunted a bit out of trees and could be a bit wayward once up one working the trees to his advantage, on this occasion I stayed with him until virtual dark until settled down to r

Nice video Ozzie , must admit I have a soft spot for the Redtails.

I wouldn't write off Harrison when he is on his game. I'm probably wrong as usual but I have a sneaky feeling their might be a upset on the cards....

My gun for some reason seems to have a sweet spot where the power is at its max before it finally drops off and Re-charged. I fill her up to the recommended 190BAR and it shoots fine but the power is a good 20 - 30FPS down comapared to when the gun drops down to 150BAR? Out of Interest are these Daystate Air Rangers supposed to be factory regulated? surely if this is the case shouldn't my gun run (give or take) a few FPS near enough bang on from a Fill to the drop off? at the moment it definitley has a sweetspot... You did right Jon! Ok a vet could have pinned it or other methods but its not always guarranteed to be perfect afterwards! plus the bird goes through hell too! It could of been worth it but personaly I would have done what you did. one of the tragedies in this sport! we take these birds up and put out heart and souls into them but at the end of the day we all the know the nature of the sport and injuries that can occure. I feel for you jon! its a sad loss. been there a few times and been upset but at the end of the day we just have to brush ourselves down and move onto another bird.

No doubt about it he was a hard nut! I still reckon John Rambo at his peak in first blood would have sparked him out .....

Hello John just a few pictures of some young HH's from this old pair. I wasn't going to bother to breed them next year! the plan was to let them start off some Gos eggs for me. The father was a genuine mexican Imported bird and very dark as you can see from some of his young in the pictures belonging to other people who sent me them, All the years I have had this pair I have never realy kept many pictures. trouble is I am miles away! the alternative is a courier I suppose or there should be plenty of breeders closer to home but the offer is here if you fancied one. Cheers Jasp

Hello John I'm chuffed to bits you're taking up a bird mate! like eskdalehawks said its good to see someone do their homework first, must say I didn't expect anything different from you . Its a shame you live so far away mate as I have a old pair of Harris I have bred with for years now, the father is 21 and the mother 16 and they have litteraly been going at it since she was 4, the father is a bird originaly imported over by the BFC which was used for their aprentiship schemes they was running back then, he finaly came to me and ended up shagging most of his life . I have three 20

I get the impresion that some of these Forests will be downed! weather they will replant or not who knows but the way they keep drilling into us about lack of houseing who's betting that some Forests won't end up as Houseing estates? seen it done with some small Plantations in Norfolk where we used to play and shoot as kids, its now full of terraced houses ......

You're not going to beleive this mate! the next door neighbour has had some scafolding around the house due to her chimney needing re-pointing, they came round Friday when I was out! when I came home the sky dish is totaly tits up, looks like one of them have put his foot on it. You probably won't beleive this either! last night about 11pm I heard a bang like somone on the roof, took the lamp out and looked around the tiles and the Aerial pole had totaly detached itself and laying flat on the tiles f**k knows what they've been up to but there will be a few words monday, not a good nig

Yes I can imagine mate how you must feel. one of the hawks hit me in the face last year and missed my eye by about 1/4 of an Inch, its the third time I have been hit in the face but this was a bit close for comfort! I'm now like yourself and very weary when I recall a bird incase it over shoots the glove and nail me full in the face.. I remember that gun being pretty lethal! I'm sure in time you'll feel more confident with it, although it will always be in the back of your mind. Jasp

Seems like its not just Jobs cuts! some of out National forests are up for the slaughter next... Forest Sell Off

Rooney is no way worth that sort of pay as any other footballer head and shoulders above him. some people put their lives at risk in their jobs everyday for less than 50k a year! wheres the justice in that . Even other X pro footballers have come forward in the past saying players are overpaid these days, its fait to say if its on the table you would take it but deep down you have to blame the Clubs for not capping wages when they had the chance! its all now spiraled way out of proportion....

sounds pretty nasty WAG . could have been alot worse by the sounds of it, was this the same CZ you knocked the bunnies over down here? it worked fine through out the evening back then. Jasper
