Now you're straying into fair and unfair competition. Of course a lurcher will beat a lab in a straight forward dash and retrieve but is that fair competition? No, of course not. I think lurchers should be banned from Gundog scurries, they've got their own races. Entering a lurcher against regular gundogs is like entering a F1 car into a go-kart race, everyone knows who'll win and no one enjoys it except for one smug b*stard. Very un-sporting. LOL it is called a scurry competition not a scurry lets all be jolly fair what what .......

I know the difference a very good mate of mine is an A panel judge and top trainer and obviously a lurcher couldn't live with a top ftch dog in a ftch competition BUT the scurry event is getting bigger and bigger in country fairs and if you wait until the last minute to enter you can almost here the guy in the lead crying when your lurcher covers the ground 5 times quicker than his dog did LOL ......

Tell you what the gundog boys don't like is when my bitch beats theirs by a mile in the scurry comps LOL.

.......you think that would have the opposite effect on the soft mouth though. Hardly known for being the most soft mouthed the faithful collie?.. Her sire was frome a very prolific line of trial dogs and had been bred NOT to grip the sheep as that as I am sure you know is instant disqualification in the sheep dog trialling world so the bitch is very soft mouthed .........

But theres nobody here saying the lurcher is uesless, its use lads trying to push saying the lurcher is as good as a Lab/Spaniel at Gundog work when thats incorrect. I reckon a Lurcher couldn't go deep back into a wood to look for an injured bird without the owner worrying a deer pops up and its gets coursed across the field infront of a load of guns, i've yet to see any lurcher that works hand signals like a proper gundog( not seen it but wont dismiss it cant be done), i think a lurcher would struggle wildfowling at freezing temps', i've yet to see a lurcher that bashes brambles aside like th

Make sure the dog isn't I'll in any way first ... Is he struggling to have a shat ? Is he drinking ? Is he being sick ? If any of the answers are yes he may well have a blockage of some sort .....
