What ever you's do choose lads check them regularly. Sunday morning just gone, I was just breaking through when the terrier that had been tethered out in the field landed in on top of me in the hole. No harm done but it could have been a disaster. It was one of those clips that you screw a little barrel on to some threads to close the link. It had just opened from movement.

On an episode of River Cottage they had a bit of trial to see which of 3 crosses was the tastiest and the Indian Game X Dorking won hands down. But I remember reading somewhere before that that this cross was a good table bird. Do your homework, do some experimenting but remember that with all livestock the end result depends A LOT on the rearing. They say Col. Sanders used to go round the cock pits of the Deep South collecting the dead cocks. He must have had one hell of a seasoning.

My post was mostly aimed at those who'd put down a terrier for getting in a kennel fight or biting someone in the heat of the moment. It was Kings post after your's where he mentioned PTS that made me presume the terrier had been destroyed, so apologies for my mistake. BUT, you did say that the black terrier attacked both your Border/Lakies nearly killing one. Terriers don't "nearly" kill one another in a 2 minute skirmish while out hunting. Terriers nearly kill one another in a 20 or 30 minute kennel fight. I'd say your use of the words "nearly killed" was an exaggeration. Getting rid

Maybe I'm the one that's wrong but 5 working terriers in a pen together will, at some stage, result in carnage and to put a terrier down for being a terrier is not on IMO. Especially if he was a good worker. Even a pet poodle will bite you in the heat of battle. I've been bitten several times, my daughter has scars on her leg since she was 8 or 9 and even when the ex-wife got badly bitten I still wouldn't destroy the terrier. There are some Brown Hares in the North Tomo and it's legal to course them with Lurchers too. But our Irish Hare is a sub species of the Blue Hare and there's no true Blue Hares on the isle of Ireland. Mind you, the ferry trip from N.I. to Scotland only takes a couple of hours so if some wanted to be there done that and get that T- Shirt it is possible, LOL.

Well Gwalchmai I finally got around to reading your article. Top stuff and you should keep them coming. I also have a personal interest in it as my own lurcher has Harrier on her fathers side. There's not as much hound in her as there is in big Barney but to watch her hunt you would think it. To see her hunt a drag, find, hunt ,view ,course and catch her Fox is brilliant. Sounds like a piss take. Game as a Pit Bull ? Loads of Pit Bulls are rank curs . Tractable as a collie ? Some Collies need good handling or they'll end up handling you. Can track game for miles ? The best Foxhounds can't hunt if there's no scent but if there is scent most breeds can be trained to hunt a blood trail. So if the Jaggt is indeed the Holy Grail of working dogs how come the few I know of ,all with different owners, all from working lines, ended up in the same place. The dog shelter.

I just had a quick flick through the old issues I have of Working Terrier and Running Dog (because I was starting to doubt myself) and in issue 20 the editor mentions that The Animal Liberation Front sent an incendiary device that went off and caused a fire in their offices. Mind you, looking through the mags reminded me that the early 90s really was a golden age of working dog authors. It was a great mag.

The bitch is nice and a lovely age coming into the Winter. LOL, I wasn't insulting the dog by saying he looked stuffed. I actually like him and a wooly jacket never bothered me as long as it's not too open. Walking one of them teddy bears down the road wont draw attention, unless you've a couple of shovels on your shoulder, LOL. An old mate used to get a few from Wales who looked just like him and they were always reckless headcases.

Have a close look at your post. It's guilty of the very same sensationalism that mediocre journalists are. "A lot of kids getting killed and it's always this breed." I have no statistics but I would say less than 5 or 6 unfortunates have been killed by dogs and I know one of these was killed by a Deerhound Lurcher and Bull Mastiffs have been guilty of a couple more. Would I be right in saying that Staffs are guilty of a couple or maybe just a few fatalities ? Hopefully this child will be the last and the other child will make a full recovery. I still have every copy of Working Terrier and The Running Dog and before that it was just The Working Terrier. It was a colourful publication and it went on to the newsagent shelves but only lasted a few more issues after that. It was very good. Didn't the anti's post an incendiary device to it's offices that caused a serious fire ?
