Night Out Shooting Cubs...
neil cooney replied to Rabbit Hunter's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Well this has opened my eyes and no need for photos. I'll always believe an honest lad. I hope that not a trend that's spreading as this year it's been hard catching up with call outs. I've done the same myself a few times DD, just out of curiosity. -
Night Out Shooting Cubs...

I would have thought anything over 6 or 7 was impossible with the Red Fox when the average litter is 4 with 5 regarded as a large litter in most places. Usually when a wild animal has large litters it's because infant mortality is high. Tell me, have you ever dug a Vixen and she with a large litter that's only a few days old ? -
Teacher asks the kids could any of them put the word "contagious" into a sentence ? Little Johnny puts up his hand and says "I went to the barber to get my hair cut, and it took the contagious."

Night Out Shooting Cubs...

There's been a few litters up this way with 11 Cubs this season, generally it's 8/9 Cubs in a litter 11 in one litter ? That's unreal and there has to be a serious food source to rear that lot. -
Welcome to the forum Nita. It must be 14 or 15 years since I spoke to you last. After Christmas there always seems to be plenty of lads inquiring about the festival. I'm sure you'll be able to help them out.

Once bolted a fox that ran straight between a BBC presenters legs. Wont be naming him as he still loves his hunting, but no longer a presenter.

Just like FatMans example there I'd say it's two litters with a few weeks age difference. If you're only seeing one adult at a time the other adults might just be leaving the food nearby and one vixen is bringing it to the cubs. It's taken a helluva lot of food to rear seven cubs to look as healthy as those in your pics. I was always of the school of thought that if you found small cubs in late Summer that it was a second litter from a vixen but when I said it on here a few fellows disagreed with me and reckon it's just a late litter but still the only litter that vixen has that year. Badgers In Daylight

That's the thing. The situation in Britain is proof that what should be a loved and respected animal when allowed get out of hand can become a major nuisance. Whereas here in Ireland most people still hold them in the respect they deserve. I don't even believe that they spread disease like they say they do and IMO it's just keeping vets in jobs. Two countries side by side with 2 completely different badger situations. Also, even though our badgers in both countries are one and the same, Meles Meles, it's been proven that the badger in Ireland has a lot of different habits than those in Bri -

Oh, OK, well observed on your part. I've never heard of 7 in a litter and am thinking of two litters. In the photo of one chasing the other it looks like a larger cub chasing a young one. I know someone said it's a vixen but that's no vixen that's reared 7 cubs IMO. -

7 cubs ? How many adults have you seen there at the one time ? Nice pictures. -
This time next year you'll have half a dozen, LOL. Nice pup and good luck with her.

You should call him "Popeye."

LOL, I'm only after seeing the do-nut, LOL.

On which ? The photo of the crayfish or your avatar ?????

Have to say Bell, although a skull can be cleaned up, mounted and look nice there's nothing nicer than a well done mask to a hunting man, especially if there's a story behind it.

I'd be the opposite. There's a good chance those Egrets will get more common, especially if they follow their smaller cousin, but a Bittern could end up being a once in a lifetime experience.

Badgers In Daylight

Nice one Foxdropper, a beautiful animal that deserves nothing but respect IMO. Thanks to the Irish government they're not the pest over here that they are over there. I love to see them healthy and not sitting in a snare for 3 or 4 days. My favourite wild animal along with the Hare. -
Never heard of hairs growing OUT of the eye ball, didn't think it would be possible. Eye lids turned in can cause the eyelash to rub against the eyeball and cause pain but it's a simple operation to fix it.

i know there a pest but i wish we had them up north i for one would be at them steady I know someone catching a lot in the north west NW of Ireland ?

Here's that plate bell end, not you was it . f**k it looks like photobucket caught up with me If killing deer and leaving them in the field is acceptable over there then they must be your type of dog men because they ain't mine . I've got no regrets whatsoever and would do it again if it protects what I consider mine . If you were the man you come on here bigging up you would sort your own problems too instead rallying troops around you . After my recent moan at the cork massive I see that's all died down ,the bullying of one man ,so sometimes putting the record straight works . listen b

Is this it ? -
Best of luck with them. You can't beat the ones you've bred yourself..................................................when they work out. Home bred pups are what it's all about.

Only after seeing this , glad the outcome was in your favour TreeHands and hopefully it will go on record that some lowlife is trying to just make life hard for you and waste police time. Sorry to hear about your friend and his dog, killed by so called animal lovers. Also very depressing to see the priorities that the police force have in a so called civilized country.

FFS another rumour started, DillyDog might be on later to confirm this.

That's a very anti statement, so much for United We Stand. If you think that folk who ride to hounds haven't got balls you should educate yourself a bit about all fieldsports.
