There used to be an old chicken fancier down in Carlow, one of the best characters ever. Anyways he was always paranoid about his chickens being stolen so he dug a trench at the back of his yard. Lined it with coils of barbed wire and filled it with pig slurry. It worked too. One night two lads came to take his chickens and ended up in the slurry. Jimmy went down and sat watching them all night. Every time they put their arms out to pull themselves up Jimmy whacked their arms with an iron bar. He let them go in the morning, they were wrecked. Another time a squad car turned in Jimmy's ya

How a fellow can say he's been out 1000s of times when he gets in and out of terriers regularly just shows that an inter-net forum can make anyone look like they know what they're talking about. If a terrier is puling at an earth from 40 yards away it means scent is good, not that you have a super nosed dog. Foxes can pop into an earth just in front of a pack of hounds and it might take them a while to get a correct mark if scent is bad. JMHO but the way a lot of lads try their terriers they spend their whole lives passing game and don't even know it. Most terriers when brought to an averag

You're right JD. Now and again I get asked to shoot rabbits and pigeons on fields of vegetables and while doing so I've often asked myself do any veggies that buy these vegetables know that animals died to ensure the crop reaches the market. It's the way the world works but these folk seem to be on a different planet.

I know this site is full of shite talk, but this takes the biscuit. I remember one of the local characters a few years ago coming into the pub and someone asked him how his day was. He was driving a tipping lorry through Dublin that morning when he suddenly needed to go to the toilet (he blamed a bad pint of Guinness from the night before.). He pulled in and quickly climbed into the empty back of the lorry and dropped his trousers. He said everything was going smoothly 'till a double decker bus stopped alongside him. He said the top floor was full.

Cushty, now I get it. You're covering your ass (so to speak) by putting it up here first so when the coppers ask you why you were flashing your neighbours you can say what really happened.

I'm confused. What happened to you in the story is a typical travelers tale. But wanting to tell everyone on the WWW makes you a yuppie.

Folks it's that time of the year again when coming up to hunting, horse fairs etc. etc. that dog stealing increases. There were lurchers stolen last week in Laois and today 2 vans were seen casing dog mens yards in the Westmeath area. One of them being a large green van. Be on your guard and don't have your season ruined before it begins.

Maybe it's an advert for a new pub in the area, The Boars Head, get it !!!! Seriously though I'd blame the anti's for that one, without a doubt. Free Trail Cams too, very nice.

I suppose it's only fair, after all we treat veggies like lepers.

I got a community text alert about 20 minutes ago saying that a house a couple of miles out the road had been burgled while the owner was in the house. If the occupant is a woman how's she feeling now knowing that there was a lowlife in the house at the same time as her ? What if she'd walked in on him ? Damn right you should be allowed dish out rough justice on this filth. On a selfish note. I have a lot of permission around where that burglary is after taking place. What if I was checking a few earths or out for a run with the lurcher ? You can bet your life that my reg would have f

Peter, IMO that case really tested our courts opinions on such matters. The farmer, Mr McNally not only shot "Frog" Ward, a well known burglar, but went off and got another cartridge, reloaded and shot him again. The man had been robbed so often he was at his wits end. He did very little time for the act and hopefully it shows that our legal system is sympathetic to those living in fear in the Irish countryside. Yesterday the Irish government said it's spending 30 million on helping rural communities. A survey of 1000 farmers showed that 38% of them had been burgled. These scum are also wre

IMO it's only a matter of time 'till someone thinks it's a good idea and brings a bucket full home. Even as we speak there's an investigation into some suspected cases of plague in some of our natives.

Agreed 100%, but then they're not happy with doing it once but have to do it 3 and then 4 times and then when they ask the unfortunate pup to travel for real it goes in 3 or 4 feet, there's nothing there where there usually is, the pup turns around and comes out.

There's a few lads probably thinking like that Larry, but I think the consequences would be too severe.

Over 20 years ago near me there was a bachelor farmer who had been burgled so often he hardly had a chair to sit on. He was in the kitchen one day and heard the intruders in the sitting room. He grabbed the rifle, ran into the sitting room, killed one scumbag instantly and wounded the other as he got out the window. Their van was sitting at the gate with the engine running and in the van was one of their wives with a baby on her knee. Anyways, I know the officer who arrested the farmer and took him to the station and sat down to have a recorded interview. The police man felt sorry for the

Apparently there's going to be a Syrian family in the Big Brother house. Don't know if it's true or not.

It's sad to say that in this day and age if that thief had serious enough injuries combined with a hard neck (and most of them do) he could sue you. One of the main worry's about booby traps is if a child was to go into your garden for a ball etc. and got injured. If I was in your position there's 2 reason I'd change the traps , 1. the police know where they are and might be back to check and 2. the thieves know where they are they might be back. Unless you're birds are in view of the public then the chances are the thief has been in your place or he's got info of someone who knows your pla

It's all about the up coming generations and the smile you wear for a couple of days. Well done.

That's the thing, if you took away an anglers right to take the odd fish for the table the river would be mainly left to the poacher and predator. Not being greedy is the secret. The nets men on the Boyne estuary got compensated when their nets were bought of them but they still fought for their traditional way of life. I watched one of these "Fishing's in my blood" netsmen one morning and he hauled in a 30 pounder which he then killed with a rock he found on the beach. Very traditional. They called the Salmon "beer money".

Any Advice For Car Sick Dog?
neil cooney replied to max_wood's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
A couple of inches of newspaper in the bottom of the travelling box is widely used but the ginger is a new one on me. -
Nice pics. I bumped into them 3 days last week. One small herd were on a farm that never had them before, great to see them.

What % of your fish do you take for the table MIK ? My local river is proof that catch and release works. A complete ban for one year and then catch and release for a few years and now it's fishing it's head off.
