  1. Don't get me wrong I've seen some cracking whippets, and I will probably get myself one day. But at this time a small lurcher just suits me more. On a different note, does anyone have any information on the bull that was used by jp to produce these 'pocket Rockets'?
  2. Good question bedo, and your right in that there whippets out there which could probably do the job as well or possibly better than a cross. But isn't that the same for most lurchers? Imo adding a bit of bull or other breed increass the chances that a higher proportion will turn out better so improves the consistency. In the case of a bull x whippet the bull will add some extra power/toughness that in theory would increase the chances of the progeny succeeding at whatever job the breeder has in mind? For me whippets are a little too lightweight and more likely to pick up knocks and injuries
  3. I had a beddy grey that never seemed to get injured, then another one that spent half its life crashing into things...I think half of it is the dogs mentality and as gaz said its physical makeup. Good feet and coat being most important imo, the rest is down to luck...
  4. the drive and instincts are definitely there. I know they may lack in size to be as effective at certain jobs as say a bull x grey, but there are plenty of smaller dogs make the grade on all quarry, all be it perhaps not with the regularity and consistency of the bigger crosses. The signs are good so far so here's hoping they will make the grade and turn out ok. Hopefully next winter I'll have another tidy little vermin basher on my hands, but whatever happens mine has a home for life as I'm smitten with the little shit.
  5. Looking good mate really like the black one. Very similar to my bitch, couldn't be happier with mine
  6. Imo lurcher work will go back to its original form more and more as time goes on. By original form I mean, poaching. Lurchers came about as a means to feed a mans family, and as times become harder for working people around the country I can see things going almost full circle. People who work dogs for a hobby will become less and less as and the people for who lurchers and working dogs are a way of life will carry on, passing down their knowledge and skills to those they trust. for some their dogs are literally their life and nothing will ever change that. There will always be these peop
  7. The 'right' call is always the toughest to make. That pup had everything, just goes to show sometimes things just *dont work out however much we try.
  8. Great pictures. Pup is really coming on. Look a very even nice litter of pups.
  9. My bitch 6 month old just under 20inch.
  10. They look like trouble them pair! The krays. ?nice pups, really like these pups
  11. Long nails are my pet hate. No excuse for it imo. It definitely changes the way a dog stands and walks once they get to a certain length, so must be a nightmare when running.
  12. Just under 6 months now. Coming on great. 18 1/2tts.
  13. When you say you haven't done any training other than recall, does that really mean nothing? Have you done retrieving? Etc? I have found with the pup I have now that the more I have tried the obedience it's like she becomes fed up and stops listening. Her recall is spot on. And she will retrieve after having a rag or play with the object. But this approach is interesting as I think mine would probably benefit of I perhaps tried letting her be herself a bit more. She's pretty good listener and just wants to be around me and play but gets bored of the whole sit, down, stay buisness and seems
  14. Do you know something we don't? there are 1000's of abandoned and neglected lurchers some probably in similar nick to this dog in rescues up and down this country, why would this particular one be anything special? It's not a rare case no need to get all excited and make silly claims. My thoughts exactly! As unpleasant as photos like this are, there are literally thousands of dogs in states like this up and down the country. Probably some scumbag who decided to get a 'working dog' then lost interested and left the poor mutt in a kennel to rot. Unfortunately all to common.
  15. It's not just the legality of what you were asking that was daft, just the sheer nature of the question seemed fishy at best!
  16. That's how running dogs should look...very smart mate
  17. Nice strong pups them. Should make a handy dog
  18. The reason behind my comment is; The post made by the op (you) led me to the conclusion that the person making the post (you) was as haymin put it, an idiot. Happy?
  19. One in the top pic is almost perfectly camouflaged! Two cracking pups.
  20. I agree with haymins assessment of this topic!
