A freedom of information act request would be interesting, something along the lines of 'how many previously healthy dogs have died or been euthanised whilst in RSPCA care'? hmmmm

This is horrific. Could you not find out the individuals responsible for care of your dogs in RSPA and take out complaint/civil case against them for loss of the dog and the stress/trauma etc caused to your family? Nobody should have to go through that! Feel for you and your boy.
  4. Thanks for that, picked up couple of bags from B&Q so ill try that.
  5. What do you use on the floor of your runs? Ive got the run on soil/grass but im finding that they are becoming wet and muddy in the rain. Have been thing of putting some form of gravel or chippings down but not sure how this will effect the birds feet? any advise? moving the pens around is not really an option due to lack of space.
  6. Thanks for the help and advice, as I said I was just trying my luck as I know good dogs are like hen's teeth, especially this time of year. Im sure theres plenty of dogs that havent made he grade that will end up being passed from pillar to post or worse thought I could give one of these a decnt home and have a bit of a mooch at the same time. Decided Im going to have a look for pup instead. Thanks again for the help and the piss taking. haha. If anyone has litter planned for some nice whippet or small greyhound type lurchers give me PM.
  7. I know its a long shot but im looking for ideally a bitch for lamping and bit of daytime rabbiting. Im not looking for a pup but a dog that already done a bit. Im a realist so know im not going to pick up a faultless dog but must have done a bit of rabbiting and be jumping, and decent recall. Just trying my luck, maybe a young dog that hasnt quite made the grade on other quarry but is ok for what i want would be ideal. in the process of moving so anytime over next couple of weeks ill be looking if anybody can help. Dog will be a pet and used for a bit of mooching around so will not be passed a
  8. One of my ko shamo's was the loudest Crower I've ever heard! He just would not stop from 5am till dusk! On the whole they are fairly quiet breed though, I think if you keep them with a decent amount of hens it keeps them busy, also if you give them plenty of bedding, and dust baths that seems to keep them concentrated on scratching and pottering rather than making a noise! only problem is I like the hens to free range and my neighbours would not tolerate having crowing birds wandering around the garden at any time of day!
  9. I've decided on getting a log built 8x4 shed, will separate this into a few pens and have the run outside this around 8x4 again, ill keep the stags in here and the garage and rotate every so often... I'm planning on a nice window fitted onto the shed so that plenty of light gets in. Hopefully this will reduce the noise and keep them all happy.
  10. Looking for people who are keeping birds in built up areas. What set ups do you use? At the moment I have my hens free ranging in the garden in the day and bring them into the garage to roost with my cocks in the evening. Thinking of using a wooden garden sheds, im finding that the hens are making a mess of the garden now the weather is turning. Problem ive got is moaning neighbours as usual so ill probably keep hens and stags seperate for the winter. any problems with this or am i better off just putting up with neighbours moaning and leaving stags out with the hens? Ive got the stags in conv
  11. Anybody keep OEG bantams? how have you found them? what size pens have you got them in?
  12. Im looking for a strong stafford or bull bitch pup. Looking for something for anytime in july as im going away for a couple of weeks end of june. So anybody who has any ltters planned for this summer send me a PM and ill be in touch cheers Gareth.
  13. As patterdalejoel said just make sure the house/shed you keep them in is draught free and dry other than that aslong as they have fresh water and plenty of food they all set.
  14. Its no that I dont like the crowing tiny, its my neighbor is the problem. Thaks for the help.
  15. Does anyone have any experience in soundproofing their chicken pen or at least building a soundproof box for the cockerel? Was thinking something along the lines of the soundproof foam you can get on the inside of the house, then maybe some carpet stapled to the outside, can see the ventilation being the biggest problem though.. any ideas?
  16. What do you all feed your working prospects up to the age of 6months? Barf or do you use a specialist puppy food?

  18. Personally id prefer a lurcher bit tougher and alittle more durable, also likely to have a better coat imo key for a lamping dog

  20. Thanks for the help men, I was thinking more along the lines of bait fishing for now bullterrier fly fishing looks a little bit out of my depth lol also what do i need in terms of licences/permits etc?

  22. Wasnt trying to have a go lads or be sacastic and I apologise if it came across that way, just geniuenly interested in the ridgeback side of the breeding coz they are a breed i like and my brother has just bought a pup like i said!
  23. I did read correctly and I am perfectly aware that the dogs not a pure ridgeback! However if hes a ridgeback x greyhound then either his sire or his dam was a pure bred dog so just wondering if the dog is out of working parents or just a show dog/pet that had some fun with a greyhound! Alimac yes they were bred for hunting lions a long time ago, doesnt mean they have any instinct to hunt any more though!
  24. Just a question deputydog what does the ridgeback bring to the table? Have never heard of a pure ridgeback doing any work, not having a dig just genuinely interested, my brother has just bought a pure ridgeback pup for his kids.
