  1. Simple answer IMO no I honestly think that nylon 4z is one of the best catchers there is. But it is just my opinion others will tell you different. TC
  2. i did think of asking why your end pins are so far from the net but i did not want to open a can of worms..lol simply for me i can get in closer to the wall and there is a lot of walls and dont feel i need longer so i just make what suits that all The reason I have mine at a yard long is the angle from the endpin to the top of the first peg. The shorter the distance is the steeper the angle, the steeper the angle the less tension you can put on the head line as it can cause the end pin to move as you apply tension, even when the pin is put in at an angle away from the net. 3. If the dog is marking now, he will not miss a rabbit. You work him into the wind and if there is a rabbit infront of him be it bush or hole he will mark or flush it. People take little notice of wind direction when bushing dogs and then moan when the dog misses a rabbit. Use the wind and the dog will find. TC
  4. Are you trying to make a point about something? Yes, that most people do not trust their dogs nose enough. I have lost count of the times I have seen people forcing dogs into cover, when the dog knows there is nothing there. TC
  5. Why do you and smithie use such short bridles? Mine are at least a yard long. TC
  6. He has proved that he can do the job now. But, whats the betting if you come across a hole with fresh rabbit signs out side and he does not mark, you will still put the ferret in. TC
  7. Neigh neigh and thrice neigh........... TC
  8. I love ox heart nearly as much as lambs heart, slow roasted and as you say Pete, sliced thinly. Lambs heart does actually taste like lean lamb, only a bit more intense flavour. When cold the flavour is not as strong. TC
  9. It does sound alright untill......................you find out the seller is JBS nets.... TC
  10. I was a falconer before I had mink, so yes a lot of the training principles I use stem from falconry. I didn't use weight to begin with as mink aren't as lazy as hawks and will often work even when a little too fat. Then later I used weight loosely to get an idea of where the mink was at. Starting this summer I've started to weigh my mink religiously, and I find it gives me a lot more control and insight as to why the mink behaves as it did during a certain training. Part of the reason I didn't use weighing from the beginning was also the difficultly of getting an accurate weight on a mink. Mi

  12. They live in Caithness and I believe the royal mail only comes twice a week. I am sure I read that on another thread on here. TC
  13. I have'nt read the whole thread but from what I can see you are applying the principles that you use for manning hawks to the mink? Do the mink have a fat weight and a hunting weight? Do they have a going up and coming down weight? Is it a minks natural instinct to hide whatever they kill? What happens if they make a kill and you cannot get to them? Is that the reason for the den training and do you carry the den with you when hunting them? Apologies for all the questions. TC
  14. It is a little bit more complicated than FTS states. You have to return the item at your cost by trackable means. If the person the other side does not sign for the item, which they do, then it is not guarenteed that they will refund you. If you are paying a lot for something that could turn out to be dodgey then pay with paypal but fund it off a credit card. Then if paypoo will not do anything, you can claim through your credit card as fraud. TC

    Drop Net

I have never tried one or seen one work . From the reports I have read of them the biggest factor is getting the rabbits to pass under it. An old thread on drop nets. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/39280-help-needed-to-make-a-drop-net/ TC
  16. The usual way of planting overwinter beans is to make a mound like as if your earthing up potatoes and plant the beans on the mound. It stops the roots from rotting if we have a wet winter and dont be tempted to plant them too early. When the beans have finished dont pull the roots out of the ground leave them in to rot as the roots contain nodes that help fix nitrogen in the soil. Try and make sure that the garlic has good drainage in the soil too, otherwise they rot in wet winters. As has been said, get some seed catalouges D T Browns, Marshalls they will all give you ideas. 17. If this is the Ferret Box company ( and I have no reason to doubt Leeviews advice on this) I feel stupid and duped, that said, not one person I have recommened them too has complained. In fact quite the opposite, they have all been full of praise for the service and goods. Perhaps the entry of Karen to the business has made a difference? Where they actually deliver what is paid for in a reasonable timescale. Time will tell. TC
  18. The X factor starts again tonight ,I love the early rounds, when they have a heap of no talent then one good act comes through. The sight of two girls fighting in previous shows was brilliant. Whats your thoughts.

  20. Just read it before I came on here. He will have nothing to do with the international squad, more with the regions and grass root level. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/23899605 We will see. TC
  21. I have recommended Karens baskets many a time, and the people who bought them have nothing but good things to say about them. PM me if you want her mobile number. TC
  22. My days of youth are over, my torch of life is out. What used to be my sex appeal Is now my water spout. It used to be amazing, the way it would behave. As early in the morning, it stood and watched me shave. As old age grows nearer, it's size give me the blues. To watch the poor thing hang it's head, and watch me shine my shoes. TC
