I used to use money bags from the bank many many years ago but you always had to carry a spare as they would eventually scrape their way out. Then I started work in a furniture factory and I had one made up out of scrap leather it was like Joseph's coat but it did the trick and lasted for years. I must have used bags for over twenty years and never fell on them once. TC

When someone buys something to sell in good faith, he expects the quality to be the same throughout the order. However, it very rarely is. So in any batch of items you buy to sell there are going to be duds, fact of life now i'm afraid. It is how the seller handles the duds is what defines his worth as a seller. Patterdale, have you had any cause to complain, as it seems that is the deciding factor. To be honest he is promised a quality when he buys in, he sells them on in good faith. But when the items are not what is advertised then he should refund without quibble. Then take it up with

If you set the donkeys at the right hight on the stern you can leave them down when the boat is on the moorings, so any rain water that enters the boat will drain off. Saving you having to go down and bail out the boat in wet weather. Far better than relying on electrics in wet weather. As a bye it was only a couple of days ago I learned the correct name for them, they are called Rib drain socks / trunks. But also go under the names of donkey c0cks and elephants trunks. TC

How Far Out Would You Fish On A Small Boat
Tiercel replied to 2.8 guy's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
Fish are nomadic, basically they follow the food and it depends on wind, tides and time of year where they will be and what they be feeding on. Some types of ground suit neap tides other suit springs. I know of a couple of marks where August through to November you can hit some really big bass, but it has to be a spring tide. Other types of ground and May through to September will produce big bass but only on neap tides. Most predatory fish are symbiotic in that each species depends on an other for it's feed. It starts with the Gulf stream, the gulf stream holds lots of plankton, whiteba -

I am at a loss to know why you would think like that? The animal has been semi domesticated it has no fear of human or dogs. It's fate was sealed when it was handed in. Perhaps the best thing would have been to euthanase it as a kit, but it was not done. So as it does seem very happy where it is, and it interacts with all his other animals why would you class it as a poor fcuker? Since I made the first post there honestly does not seem to be any change in it's behaviour, I have seen it a few times since and it is just as bossy with the dogs as it was. TC

How Far Out Would You Fish On A Small Boat
Tiercel replied to 2.8 guy's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
I fished in a 17' dory for 15 years the distance you are able top travel depends on a lot of factors. The weather is the biggest factor around the British Isles. In the summer in the middle of a big high pressure system sometimes the further off shore you are the better. Seems daft I know but you do not get affected by the coastal sea breezes, where the land heats up and the warm air rises pulling in the colder air off the sea which can give winds of up to 20 knots on the inshore waters, while 5 miles out to sea it is still flat calm. We would regularly travel 30 odd miles to fish a partic -

This is posted for Kevi it's his drop net system. A little bit hard to show but this is a drop system that I made up using a car central locking set ( $28. from China).I used 6ft tent poles placed them over steel rods driven into the ground. The ground here is very hard. every 4 th pole another solinoid is added thus 4 for a fifty yard drop the system runs off a small 12 V battery mounted on the first pole is activated by a keypad button

Perhaps it's a good job I do not trap? TC

Alder is a deciduous hard wood once dried would be suitable for a catapult. Birch is distantly related to Alder though not widely used because of it size it is still a strong hard wood so again would be suitable. TC

Now I may not be scientifically correct but personally I have always referred to large ruminants of all species as "beasts" .........I thought that was a general term ?? yeah i get that, but would you say "just have a look at the black cow in the second shed" or would you say "just have a look at the black beast in the second shed". the fella i was talking about used the word beast at all times, he wouldnt even use cow/heifer/bull to distinguish them. even the calves were "beasts", and a calf certainly isnt a large ruminant! i reckon we can keep this thread going as long as the g

When the county I lived in was dry on a Sunday, you had to knock on the back door to get into a pub. There would be a couple of people in until the chapels closed then the pubs would fill up, with them all in their Sunday best. TC

Fraz as you know I will never knock anyone's beliefs. Yet there are some Christians who would say that because you do not go to church you are not a practising Christian. My View on it is that, if you live a life by the commandments and are subservient to no one. Then you are living a good life. I do not believe that if some entity has an omnipotent power, that they constantly need that power affirmed by being worshipped and their praises sang at every opportunity. TC
-
It does rather beg the question, what is a Christian? Is there a pronounced stigma attached if you do not go to church at every available opportunity. I hear the term 'a practising Christian' what does that mean? To my mind you either follow Christ or you don't. What I do not get is the need to affirm your beliefs in a place of worship, yet we are told that when you receive Christ he is in your heart. So why the need to go to some place to worship him? TC
-
One thing I just do not get, why do people feel they have the right to deride people who believe in a god? What should it matter to anyone else what a persons faith is?. Banter is all well and good, but I have seen some pretty derogatory comments on this thread that there was absolutely no need for. TC

Self draining scuppers we call them donkey c0cks. as all dory's have sealed decks once you have water in the boat it can be hard to get out but with the donkey's you just drop them when on the plane and they drain the deck. Great for washing the boat down a few buckets of water and it all drains out the back. TC

Now I may not be scientifically correct but personally I have always referred to large ruminants of all species as "beasts" .........I thought that was a general term ?? Are not ruminants known as beasts of burden as in oxen that would be used to draw carts and ploughs? TC

I have never seen one of those before, looks a well built boat. I like the glassed in ribs on the hull, it looks about 17' nice size although I would prefer a little more beam, even 6" would make a difference. It looks like a modernised Wilson flyer without a fore deck, going by the shape of the hull at the stern. I notice none of the dory's shown have donkeys do you not fit them? I would not go out in a dory without donkeys. Cracking engine though and that is the main part of the boat, without it a boat is just a hole in the water that you pour money in to. TC
