Dear Mr Tax man, this is how I make some cash on the side without declaring it. TC

I agree in principle, but there's 'crap' and there's 'crap' if you see what I mean. Twigs and leaves aren't too bad. But the 1 - 2" thorn stubs from a flailed hawthorn/blackthorn hedge (that I was referring to in my "10oz sheeting" post) have to be seen to be believed. If there's a quick and simple way to get them out I've yet to find it. I've had 50 yard nets set alongside that sort of hedge that take anywhere from half an hour to an hour to clean. Easy to set the net away from the hedge for a night time drop, but for daytime ferreting where the rabbits run down the hedgeline, unless you set

Its 4.25" mesh and there is no way you could adapt sheet netting, trust me. That said there is a way you could get a similar effect with sheet netting but the pockets would not be half as deep as the sheet netting is not deep / wide enough. TC

Time for an update on the new type of net. I altered the size of the pockets of the net and set it on lines to see what it looked like. To be honest I liked what I saw. Front view. View along the front of the net. View along the back of the net showing the pockets. The size of the pockets from behind, plenty of slack in them. Hanging down really shows the depth of the pockets. The net was sent away for testing during the summer, and the first incarnation needed adjustments once the adjustments were made the net did perform as I envisaged. Stage two was to make another

A bit of a double edged sword by there, by setting the nets away from the hedge you save on cleaning, but gain the bounce offs because of the speed the rabbits are travelling at. It's just trying to find that middle ground where the net stays reasonably clean and the rabbits do tangle not bounce. TC

To be honest 6z is not a bad catching net in 4.25 and 4.5" mesh. Four inch mesh is a waste of time as the 6z twine does not stretch enough to allow a full grown rabbit to get its head though. It is inevitable that because of the way that rabbits hit a net during the day that some will bounce. TBH I don't think there is a lot that can be done if you use a normal net, be it 6z or 4z bounces will happen. That is one of the reasons I developed the pocket net, and as far as I know to date, the two nets I sent for evaluation have not lost a single rabbit that has hit the net. TC

I have been reading back over old threads and it never ceases to amaze me how many people are paranoid about a net picking up rubbish. So much so that they will use nets that are totally unsuitable for catching rabbits just to avoid a couple of minutes cleaning a net. Yet the same people will dig 2, 4, 6 ft just to get a fecking rabbit. It is not that difficult to clean a net, just follow a few simple rules. Any twigs pull out backwards (from the thickest end) with a shaking motion and not to enough pressure to close the meshes, any bracken just leave it there it will fall out on it's own.

Cross braid is a solid braid that has a rough surface, IMHO it is not suitable for running lines. What you need to look for is a 1.3 to 2mm hollow braid. Hollow braid is lighter and easily spliced. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NYLON-BRAIDED-TWINE-2MM-diam-x-300metres-/370118665753?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_BoatEquipment_Accessories_SM&hash=item562ccaa619 http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ropeandnetsforoldmoney/TWINE-CORD-/_i.html?_fsub=4 TC

Contact him and offer him half of the £130 to cancel the transaction, bet he bites your arm off, I would. Ebay dont know that he has the engine and has paid by bank transfer, in reality they don't care either. All you have to say is that the engine was not suitable and it was a mutual cancellation. TC

The thicker the cord the heavier it weighs, the heavier it is the more it will sag. my preference is 1.5 to 2mm some go lower, I believe Mr Wilks likes 1.3mm. Even that 1.3mm has a breaking strain of around 45 kilos so your never going to snap it. Personally I would never go over 2mm as it creates too many problems getting tension in the lines. Edited to add, A rabbit will chew though a 3mm line just as quick as a 1.3mm line. TC

Low water 11pm tomorrow night, rising tides, could be good first of the flood. Just try and keep away from any source of fresh water if possible, with all the rain the last few days it will drive the fish into more saline water. http://www.britishbeaches.info/walney-island-biggar-bank-cumbria/weather-tides TC

Part and parcel of netting, if a net will not catch leaves and twigs, for certain it will not catch rabbits. TC

It really is that simple. But what if you want one you have made this year? TC

One way of drying small pieces of wood in the microwave is to place the catapult in the microwave wrapped in kitchen towel, set the microwave to defrost and blitz for a minute. Take the wood out of the microwave and leave for at least half an hour to cool down. Then repeat the process until the wood is dry. The best way to tell if the wood is dry is to weigh the wood on a digital kitchen scales that measures in grams. Weigh the wood after every blitz in the microwave, then when the reading you have is the same as the previous one then the wood is dry. TC

The thing with feeding rabbits it can vary from day to day, wind, rain, moon and many other factors can affect their feeding habits. Even after 50 years plus I have never really worked it out, I tend to give it my best guess, sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't. But that said and rabbits that are out before dawn have on average been easier for the dog. As I stated I don't know a lot about hares, but I cannot see there being much difference. TC
