I had a collie x that got tangled in an electric sheep fence, she was about 3 years old at the time. I got her out of the fence with a few belts myself for my trouble. She refused to run another rabbit in that field. Walked to the next field and it was as if nothing had happened she just carried on working. She would never run a rabbit in that field again, even three years later. TC

It has been very slow this year, the weather is cold to what it should be, that's why the plants are lagging behind. Give it another week and you will see a drastic change. Starting from Thursday on. TC -
In some ways I am very strict, other ways quite lenient. But if I make my mind up on something, thats it, no going back. The problem is with kids, they cannot see the dangers we can. Because they have never experienced them, to them they do not exist. So how do you explain dangers that as far as they are concerned do not exist? To be honest it's impossible, so then you have to act the big bad ogre and put your foot down. I do not even try to explain these days, because the time when they will understand is not that far off, then you change from an ogre to a hero. TC

Paraquat is no good, non systemic, it will not kill the rhizomes (roots) of the plant. TC

The trouble is kids don't come with a yearly manual, and they are all different. So you have to hope that your preparation has sunk in and most of all have some trust. TC

I do believe that soil containing rhizomes of knot weed is now classed as contaminated waist? Waste even TC

I spoke to the chap that had it on his plot and he had done a lot of research on how to get rid of it. Apparently knot weed is like a tree in that the sap falls back to the roots in the Autumn. For the best effect you have to time the spraying to coincide with the sap falling to take the weed killer to the roots. If you look on youtube there are videos of ways of getting rid of knot weed. It will push it's way through 4" of concrete, so plastic is a waste of time. TC

Knot weed is a bar steward to kill although a good systemic weed killer will eventually kill it after a few years of treatment. A chap on the allotments had it on the border fence that his plot lay on. He sprayed at the end of August and only had about 20% regrowth the next year he sprayed that again at the same time and only had a few regrowths. after the third year of doing the same he was clear. If there is a valid reason why someone would feel that the site does nothing for them any more. Why not say why your leaving? It's not as if it was a protracted farewell speech. By the time I first read it, 3 posts in, he was already banned, at his own request I should imagine. I have issues with some threads and posts on here, but if I don't like a thread I don't read it, it really is that simple. That said when something really winds you up it does act like a magnet. I have two daughters the eldest was a nightmare at that age. The youngest would rather see here horse at that age and we have the granddaughter who is 16 living with us and she is a nightmare just the same as her mother was. But as Terry says as males we have little say in the matter so I just leave it to the wife. TC

No matter how much people learn in their life time, something will always come along and make you look and feel stupid. I have been made to look and feel stupid so many times when they do not play by the rules. Never say never is my motto now. By the way, when I was long lining with live Mackerel the best hooks we found were circle hooks and just nick the skin just behind the Mackerels head. I pulled one line once and two of the hooks were missing off the snoods, (usually down to Tope) further along the line I had a 5lb bass with the two missing hooks in it's mouth. TC

They will be fixated on peeler at the moment as the females are moulting, but that does not mean they they will turn their nose up at an easy meal. I remember one day the bass where shoaling on whitebait and because of the amount of boats that were there they were up and down all morning. One of my mates had some smelly frozen black lug and dropped a line over when the shoal had gone down. He had a fish a drop on the black lug. TC

Not trying to teach my granny to suck eggs, but did you try trolling along the bottom beneath the mackerel. Very often large Bass follow Mackerel shoals, especially if you have Tope in the area. A live joey drifted on the bottom often sorts them out. TC

Why didn't you ask him what he was doing surely couldn't of disspaeared very far lol What was the point? It was pretty obvious what he was trying to do scare us off the land. When it first happened I put the lamp on him / her it had an old hat on and what looked like an old garbadeen coat tied round the middle he was standing on the hedge mound in the trees making animal noises with the torch under his chin.. The only odd thing I have had happen to me, and I would not call it supernatural. Every time we visited a certain farm no matter what time of night it was, there would be a chap that followed us around, he would come out of the hedgerow with a torch shining on his face making animal noises, then turn the torch off and disappear. Every field we went in he would do the same, well I say he it could have been a she for all I know. It did frighten me if I am honest the first time it happened, after that we just expected it and had a laugh about it.. TC

What I should have added is that both rivers go underground in parts in low water conditions. The photo Johnny has of the mouth of Porth yr ogaf cave just upstream from there the river comes up from underground. And on the Hepste it goes underground in a few places, it's odd to see water disappearing into stones on the river bed, even odder to see it reappearing out of gravel half a mile down stream. TC

Funny enough Kev it came on tv the other day and both my kids said "Can we go there Dad" So that's on the to do list for the summer. It's great having kids that enjoy it though mate isn't it, it's all more pleasing seeing them enjoying it.Any trout in the river mate ?.....looks trouts. It's actually two rivers, the first fall in the photos is on the Hepste which has almost black trout because of the peaty water, because the water is acid there is not much plant life or insects for the fish to feed on, a half lb fish is a specimen. Thats a cracking walk Johnny, some tidy photos too mun. Far better getting the kids out there than some bloody theme park. What's the betting in years to come they take their kids to all these places your taking them. There is another easier 4 waterfalls walk in Pontneddfechan. TC
