My wife and daughter are both carers. From what you have said it is her fellow carers that are reporting her to the office. The wife does much the same as your mother but keeps quiet about it. With the old chap she got the slippers for, if he has no family then he has a designated shopping call as part of his care package arranged by social services. TC

A tip I was given for waxy plants like mares tail and rushes is to add some fairy liquid to the spray, apparently it breaks down the waxy covering of the plant and allows the glyphosate to permeate the plant. Worked with the mares tail, till the next year, then had to repeat. TC

The Roundup I have in the shed is normal over the counter stuff. I would go with Labs suggestion of 16ml if you have the concentrate. TC
-
I think the ratio is 50 mils per litre, but that is off the top of my head. Will have a look on the morrow at the Roundup I have in the shed. TC

Maybe one day, perhaps, I will be able to get somewhere near those images. Cracking. TC

Bass, Bit Of Mark Advice Please
Tiercel replied to South hams hunter's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
There is an old saying amongst fishermen, "It only takes an inch of water to cover a fishes back" Meaning fish are not always in the deepest water. I had a look on google earth and those rocks are only about 35 yards at their widest part. Looking at the photo, the position you are fishing would work best on the ebb of the tide. If I was fishing that mark I would start down tide of the ledge where the rocks meet the sand / mud and stay there as long as I could fishing as hard against the rocks as possible. As the run of tide decreases and high water nears I would then switch to the led -

Sorry, I did not realise it was that far from the shore. It should cover pretty quick, and as the tide will be running at it's strongest in the 3rd and 4th hours you could have about half an hour on it before it gets too far to cast too. You will know when the bow wave effect is taking place you will see a small ripple appear, as soon as it does start fishing it. TC -

To fish the bow wave, use as long a leader as you can handle and a breakaway lead, cast up-tide of the edge of the rocks so that the bait drops back on to the edge of the rocks. Use a bait clip or hang the bait over one of the grips on the weight. TC -
Bass, Bit Of Mark Advice Please
Tiercel replied to South hams hunter's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
There will be a time when it is the best time to fish the bow wave, wind, current, hight of tide will dictate when that will be. That said, It is usually (depending what time of tide the rocks get covered) within the first hour of the rocks getting covered. Say for example they get covered at 2hrs flood on a 6 metre tide 1-12th of 6 metres is half a metre. The tide rises on the 3rd hour of the tide 3/12ths so you will know that there will be at least a metre and a half of water covering the rocks. In that case I would start fishing it half an hour after the rocks are covered and work from -
Bass, Bit Of Mark Advice Please
Tiercel replied to South hams hunter's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
Please yourself, you asked for advice and I gave it. Even rocks 6" high will give a bow wave effect for a short while, it's up to you to determine what state of tide for any given strength of run that bow wave takes place. This is a photo of a place I used to fish and as the tide grew stronger so different places on the rocks would produce fish, as one finished you would move onto the next one and end up right on top of the rocks over high water. The dark lines nearest the bottom of the photo is the first to fish and would last for about half an hour. You can calculate how much water w -

How does the tide come in towards the rocks? If the tide hits the rocks full on then fish in front of the rocks with crab. The rocks will set up a bow wave effect in the tide, giving you slack water even in a big tide run. Crabs cannot walk around in a run of tide they just get tumbled along with the tide, until that is they hit places where there is no run of tide, like the bow wave in front of the rocks. They can then walk about and feed, or at this time of years carry females to mate with. Bass know this and will use all these bow wave places along the tidal run. It may only fish prope -

Now why didn't I think of that? TC -
I just looked out the window and the light looked like rain due. Is it possible to convey that in a photo? Bit off the wall I know, but just something that struck me. Something like the light you get when snow is due in the winter. TC

Did it a few times myself as an apprentice joiner so can sympathize. Thumb nail now has permanent ridges. Always seemed to hit it again just when it was improving. No nail guns in those days, just a fist full of nails and a claw hammer. Whats the postage on those sticks? I would think the length knackers it up? Anything up to 1.2m can go by courier, Hermes and the like. Anything over that length will have to go Parcelforce royal mail. TC

I have always been frustrated with google showing American search results first. this morning I found a little add-on that makes google search give UK results first. Click on this link. http://mycroftproject.com/google-search-plugins.html Scroll down to the UK one and just click on it. Sorted all my search results now have UK preference. TC

I just love that noise when they are pairing up and the male is drumming. First time I heard it I was coming off the mountain at dusk, put the willies up me, I was only about 12. https://youtu.be/LuDZVc5agFU TC
