Isn't this refered to as Line breeding? Lots of breeders do it to keep specific traits. Though I would of thought it only useful if the mother is exceptional or has something specific your looking for in a dog? as in reality your trying to make the pups 3/4 Dam genes and only 1/4 from the Whippet Grandsire. Theirs a fair number of Bullcrosses out there doing the job well and some might well have something extra you'd like in your pups. Get out with some others if you can and see if they've got something the Son hasn't, if not then get on and do it. Don't forget though, both positive AND n

Lovely dogs mate, the greyhound looks really good.

It can be done but think of it more as a fun night out with your dog rather than a rabbiting trip and don't do it on land you intend to run properly later on, as you'll mainly just be educating the Rabbits to the lamp. They yap like crazy when chasing but will crash through the hedge after the Rabbit, this is where their likely to catch them. I've got a clip here of when I took the Farmers sister and her fiance Lamping for a laugh with their Parsons Russell. It's crap quailty and right at the end of the beam but you can just about make out what's happening. Roo then starts to Retrieve Rab

Congratulations on the new permission mate, sounds like your going to be having some fun! as has been said already, we've never found the Deer overly disturbed by gun fire and certainly not by the lamp, they tend to just stand and stare at it not deeming it as a threat. A lot of the land I go on is keepered and shot every week, also with trusted lads that the keeper lets out after pests. Most nights out we'll see deer on the Lamp, so if they were going to move on they would of done it by now. I Any Idea when your down my way next? Fingers crossed but I might of sorted some permission that

bullmastiff replied to mally's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
That would be just my luck! The photo's were still on your Picasa site when I looked (Nºs 106-112 on the racing album and Nºs 57 to 62 in the coursing album). Theirs a fair few so I don't know how I missed them the first time I looked???. I'll work out which ones I'm after and get the photo Nº of them from the album. All the best Luke. -

COLLIE GRAYHOUND X BULL GRAYHOUND
bullmastiff replied to davidlloyd's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I love the dog in the fourth pic down, looks in great nick. Must admit I like the idea of this cross and will probably be considering it when I need another dog in the future. -
Any reason why it's cancelled? It was certainly well attended last year!
-
Fit some decent tyres and put a switch on the brake lights. Job done!
-
Have any more been run of is it on a standstill until the ground softens? Are you into the semi's yet? All the best

We finally got some snow today!!
bullmastiff replied to collie/grey's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As usual, some good pics and the dogs are looking in good nick! Same as you, woke up to snow this morning for the first time since Feb! I'm sure the novelty will soon wear off and as usual Morrisons had sold out of everything as people panic buy! -
I WIN!!!... Actually, 'I'm the fakeist Gay member on the site' probably isn't something to boast about! (Mr Darcy might get upset?) I'm not mad, just REALLY Bored! still it was fun whilst it lasted. No Joke fella, I totally agree with you! All my dogs are just pets. When they give me some sport/food or do a Removal job for a Farmer then that's just a bonus! Hopefully the pup will be able to help out where she can. She's doing well, currently at about 20"tts and 35lbs. All the best.

I was assured by the team at ACES that a leather harness was a 'MUST' for :db: weight pulling :db: and also very useful for controlling 'Feisty' animals on the 'V' frame? As for you blushing... those won't be your only red cheeks if you continue to discuss my under garments on an open forum Yours expectantly, Yeast. As as for you, ASBO young man, Two points - 1. Please refrain from taking the Lords name in vain. Any more of that and you'll be joining the other naughty boys in the Basement. 2. This section of the site is lead by Mr Darcy, so what did you expect???

No but you can come Dogging with me if you want! and the best bit about us older woman are so gratefull for the company we even make breakfast in the morning!
-
yea ok. . . Yeah, alright. You've found out my secret.... I'm a 82 year old pensioner. You should be ashamed of yourself making fun of the elderly!
-
I bought it for when I'm on the bike, he's dragged me off once or twice when on the rope so at least with this I can extend the length of it when I need to...Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!! If I let him off the lead he starts working straight away and I don't like having him on a short leash all the time so it was that or leave him at home.

It's not quite as bad as it sounds, it's just that the tyres are made from such soft rubber on the Gator. The Subaru Pickup was usually fine on it. The One - I'm back out on the bloody bike with Roo doing roadwork whilst it's frozen. I thought I had managed to put it away till the end of the season, Damn it! Tia and the pup are both left to do their own thing but I keep Roo on an extendable lead when out walking the fields.
-
Had ground just like that where I used to Keeper - all Chalk and Flint. It could slice straight through the tyre of the Gator! we ended up putting two cans of tyreweld stuff in each, most weeks their would be a new lump of pink rubber hanging out of the tyre! running at lower pressures also reduced the amount of cuts they got. Tia was about a year old then and would jog/run next to the Gator all day on it and very rarely hurt her feet, an occasional Flint splinter dug into a pad and thats about it. I wouldn't dare try it with Roo though, his feet just aren't good enough for it.
-
Probably not the farmer, could well be anti's etc releasing town foxes in the area. Or another option could be people putting them into rescue homes/vets after hitting them in the car, then they release them from a roadside layby once healthy. Might explain why their so numerous in that area as well? Check and see if theirs a rescue centre nearby? if so, then it should keep you in hunting for the future!
-
I think that might be the reason Dan, yours have grown up playing and running on frozen ground so their feet get used to it? where as ours are mainly used to wet, soft, soil? Whippet 99, you can't keep me and the dogs indoors when it's like this, I love it! Walk for as long and as fast as you like and you still don't get hot and sweaty. Plus of course you get the obvious upsides that you can see the tracks through the frost so get to learn where differant animals feed, lay up for the day/night etc. and routes they use between them. Always useful to know
-
Well I took all the dogs out for just a walk late last night, kept Roo on his lead as he will start working as soon as you let him off and the last thing I need is another vet bill! The Moon came out from behind the cloud about 12.30ish but started warming slightly by about 1.00am, and it was almost like daylight with it reflecting off the frost. I love it when it's like this and it was almost completely silent apart from the crunching of the grass under our feet. We spent hours just pottering about the farm following animal tracks, it was great. It was a good night for scenting as well an
