  1. He's looking stunning mate, I don't know if it's just the camera angle but that looks like a fair size head for 13 weeks! All the best
  2. An excellent post Rainmaker and rest assured I will be bugging you with questions!! Half the problem with swapping to the BARF diet isn't with the dog, it's with us and the uncertainty that your getting the right meat/fat/bone/veg ratio, so you end up feeding complete food as well 'just incase'. Health issues is one of the main reasons I started 'converting' to the BARF diet but my biggest problem is finding suppliers. I get as much as I can from Morrissons 'cheap' section and can get enormous amounts of beef fat from the butcher but stuggle to get anything else. All of the butchers around he
  3. Warren, How in the hell does that little Basset get anywhere with that land anchor hanging in the grass!!! He looks in great condition though, cracking dog
  4. Bit late to ask for a review if you've already bought one! It's not a bad call, it does a brilliant Hare scream but to get it higher to a Rabbit squeal (which it can do quite well) you have to bite down pretty hard and of course the harder you bite the harder you have to blow, which can make volume an issue to control. You can end up red in the face, out of breath and dizzy if your a smoker like me I've gone back to a WAM for most calling but still keep it as a reserve. I've found it works well on some shy Foxes (maybe just a differant sound so curiosity gets the better of them???) h
  5. There's some smashing pups being put up, and nice to see them all so fit and healthy! Mine to start gently next year (depend on her maturity?), probably won't actually let her do much herself (maybe get to rag about after) but should see her future quarry worked a few times 12 weeks here, now 14 weeks and had a bit of a growth spurt and is going through a gangly stage, so I'll get some recent photos.
  6. Pop her on a long lead and gently pull her back to you whilst calling her as soon as she's pick the dummy up, then give treats and fuss her like crazy. It's just a complete new thing to the pup, I guess it just smells like dinner! Might be worth letting the skin dry out on the washing up bottle so it loses some of it's 'meat' smell.
  7. Thankyou for your comments guys. I struggle like feck to get 'proper' carcases, the local butchers in every village around me have caught on to the BARF diet and now charges a small fortune for offcuts and meaty bones. Only place I can get offcuts is at the Butcher in Morrissons, I have a friend working there and he can get me decent meat and fat for about 25p/kg I also buy all the lamb bones they put out for making stock. Roo's eaten raw meat since we got him but only over the last few months has it been really regularly (4-5 times a week). He gets Rabbits whole (guts, fur and feet) an
  8. As a keeper or beater we always just held them with their wings pinched behind their backs and cracked them on the head with your beating stick. All the pickers up carried small priests (bought and homemade) hung from the wrist. When a runner was brought back they had it to hand straight away. Some of the guns used to hold them by the head and spin the body about, I hated it as it makes it a nightmare to hang them. You'd put them on the game cart and as he drove off the bouncing about would pop the heads off. You would then have to hang them by their feet to cool.
  9. How would that help? I would of thought even if he did chew it into chunks, a gut full of frozen meat wouldn't be good for a dog?
  10. I try and feed my dogs on as much Raw food as possible, with Science plan as a fall back but Roo swallows everything whole I've tried chicken wings, they didn't even touch the sides, meaty ribs, cracked then swallowed, he swallowed a 6" rib whole once, heard him whine a bit when that one came out in the woods, he was lucky not to damage himself!!! Whenever he's given a whole rabbit,he doesn't bite it into chunks, he crunchs it then just swallows it in one whole piece as well... I've got to cut them into 3-4 sections for him now and again these are all crunched then swallowed whole. I al
  11. Try a few training sessions at night, Same as you do during the day. Also try sudden changes in direction as well, the dog has to be aware of you if it wants it's neck to stay the same length.
  12. I've had to use it several times on Roo and Tia's faces/necks and I washed the wounds once a day for about 4-5 days (if stitched) or until a decent scab has formed. Touch wood I've never had a problem yet?
  13. Looks a fine young babe, I'd forgotten about the water birth, My missus is 13 weeks down the road with our second, I'll have to suggest it! All the best to you and yours. Luke.
  14. Yet again another cracking write-up and pics of some of your sport. Thank you guys I should be heading to Kings bay above Jacksonville in Georgia some time next year with work and I'm hoping to arrange some hunting whilst I'm there. Do you know if they hunt with running dogs there? Cheers again Luke
  15. That's a stunning dog swamper, I have to do the usual question though, What cross is it?
  16. I take you guys have had a bit of rain!!! apparently three RAF Seakings are being scrambled to evacuate 200 people???
  17. You can watch it online on '4 on demand' (like the BBC Iplayer)
  18. I think the person in the perfect position to give you advise is the dog trainer? Will the classes be moving to 'off the leash' work in the future? Put it simply your dog does know that their dogs next door. Even if they are small and furry they will still smell like dogs.
  19. No worries , I know Bull crosses are easier to get looking fairly toned but so far only a few bulls have been posted on this topic. Both Keano and you have posted pics of amazing looking Collie crosses, Mally's posted some crackers of his Whippet and Thompsons dogs has posted a lovely looking Saluki cross. So it must be possible?
  20. Is it just me or were quite a few of these dogs just slim, not fit??? don't get me wrong, there's some beauty's been posted but a fair few didn't seem to have any definition to the muscles? I know the colouring can affect the look of the dog (smooth, single coloured dogs always look more toned) but some seemed to have very little muscle, certainly on the back legs? Please tell me if I'm being too critical? or are some just finding another excuse to post a pic of their dog no matter what fitness level?
  21. Try lowering it a bit. When it's put so high that the dog has to hang from it, the only thing it's working hard is it's jaws. If you lower it a bit (like the staff/pit guys do) the dog can get it's back feet down and also works it's stomach and neck trying to pull down on it whilst still holding on (so still working the jaw) Good Video, thanks for sharing.
  22. Give your command to 'heel' wait half a second then put some slack into the lead then snap the lead sideways and back (short and sharp). Your timing has to be quick, as soon as he applies slight pressure to the lead then do it, Everytime. Unfortunately they still usually tend to pull no matter what you do if there's quarry in front, that's just part of owning a Bull breed! - you wanted prey drive, you got it!
  23. click on your user name (top right of every page) it'll give you a drop down menu.
  24. I think for the retail industry by law your not allowed to open the animal unless you've got to of been on a food hygiene course? so it's probably best to sell them the way you are.
