  1. I use a Clulite and have found it to be exceedingly resilient. Taking any punishment you can think of, also has very good wiring so no mucking about with wet cold fingers trying to play about with wires. You know that as long as theres charge in the battery when you flip that switch it'll work! Also the flip up filter's are excellent, you can flick it out the way quickly and silently when the dog's close enough to the quarry then return to coloured light just as quick. Also as the head is so small you can just pull off the removable handle and slip it in your pocket when it's not needed. M
  2. Roo's - Working Lurcher and Coursing Champ Trophies he won a few month's before he died.
  3. From memory of people asking that question before I think it's rare to get a dog good enough that can do them singlehanded. I'm sure there's plenty of dogs capable of killing one but haven't got the pace/stamina to catch them on their own, and plenty of dogs that are capable of catching but haven't got the brains/power/balls to kill them on their own. Getting a dog that can both catch and kill on there own regularly is not that common. I'm sure someone with first hand experience can shed more light on it though.
  4. I couldn't of timed it better! lol got my bitch's Dewclaws removed 3 weeks ago after she damaged one again, so I haven't been able to let her off the lead anyway. So by the time the grounds softened up again, she'll bit fit to burst and raring to get out!.
  5. As you said the quality of the video isn't great but for £30 you can't complain and if it breaks when you drop it/get it wet you won't care too much. Would be ok for ferreting vid's maybe? Where did you get it from?
  6. From the bottom photo, you would almost think they were all differant breeds! Agree with Bosun that Black one really has something about it, I keep going back to look again. Lovely pups, their a credit to you! Have you any photo's of the parents you could show us? Just have to convince the missus that what we need is another dog...
  7. Thats because it's a deerhoundXgreyhound! still a great clip that I'm glad Billy posted for us, I'd forgotten about this clip!
  8. I hope that video was of show dogs being kept fit and nothing like the running style of a working DH? they were slow and cumbersome to say the least! I've tried finding a video of a decent DH running but there doesn't seem to be any? Anyone got some footage of one of these running properly?
  9. I don't know about that. In my opinion and it's open for debate lol!, a ground scenting dog (like Spanials) that goes in a hole in the hedge then straight out the same hole should be encouraged to go back in the same spot and work the hedge through, not air scent down the side of it as a Lab will often do. I think this is the one of the main differance's in hunting styles between Labs and Spanials and one thing people seem to forget. Spanials will run with the nose to the ground, meticulously following the track of the quarry, whereas a Lab will try to leapfrog the scent by holding it's he
  10. I wash the cuts/punctures out with a 10ml/100ml Hibiscrub/water solution and thats about it. If the swelling comes up too much or is affecting the dogs then I give one 50mg tablet of Rimadyl twice a day for two days. That usually does the trick. Never had an infected bite yet.
  11. The best Fight scene EVER!!!!!
  12. Almost sure of it mate, Tia didn't mature properly until about 2yrs so I'm not surprised Tess is taking her time!
  13. Sorry for taking so long to reply. Collie-Grey She's 13month's old now, 24"tts and about 55lb. Although almost physically mature she's still not mentally mature. Up until they migrated she was still chasing the swallows round the field and still even now chases the odd bird's shadow across a field lol! She certainly look's like she could be capable (not that looks prove F. all! lol) and certainly seems keen enough but it'll be a while yet until she see's some proper work and hopefully following a more experianced dog in (Matt, if your reading I'll need the favour returned! lol). I take h
  14. Sorry for being naive but has that pup got flat front feet?
  15. I couldn't decide whether it was worth going out tonight as there was an almost full moon, no wind and -2ºc. I thought their bound to hear me walking across the frosted grass and would be able to see me and my shadow a mile off! In the end I thought bugger it, better out than in so grab me stuff and headed out. Turned out there was a surprising amount of Rabbits out in the fields so managed to get some good runs. Then I spotted two sets of eyes on a far hedge, walked in to them and with a quiet hiss, Tess was gone. For her first ever run behind one I think she did ok, putting pressure on a
  16. I believe this is the link your looking for? http://www.paulfrenchvideo.com
  17. I don't know about Charlie, but Reynard is French for fox.
  18. I raced Roo for a bit of fun and he did quite well. He became the Coursing Champion at the last Crewkerne show. He would sceam and dive on the end of the lead when stood waiting for his turn. It can be a bit embarressing to be truthfull! When out working he was a completely differant dog, sometimes working off lead and never ever made a sound. Dogs aren't dumb and they know the differance between a muck about chasing a powered plastic bag up a field and proper work. I've tried Tess at the racing a few times and just like her dad when stood watching the racing she makes the most god-awful
  19. It's Easy to blame dominance issues and it's 'fighting for it's place in a pack...' The kids won't have the patience or be consist enough to correct a dog when it's really needed, your just giving the kids permission to whack the dog. Now you just got a dog that's nervous and cower's around kids. A group of kids running around a garden laughing and shouting.... You can't expect a young pup to sit quietly and patiently in the middle of all that without a reaction. Just sounds as if it's being a confident, boistrous pup thats bored. It's just trying to play as it would with it's litter mat
  20. Took Tess ratting for the first this year with Archiehood and a few others, we had a cracking time! Only trouble was she kept retrieving all the dead rats back to me! lol that was until she picked up a live one and tried retrieving it, she soon dropped it and a Terrier picked it up and shook it. She stood there with her head tilted watching the Terrier kill it then the next one she caught she shook it like crazy prancing around the inside of the barn looking very happy with herself! lol She had a whale of a time doing it! It hasn't effected her in the slightest, she's still soft mouthed with
  21. Wish I had seen this sooner, could of given her a home, I've been looking for a bitch or snipped Dog to run this season (not making the same mistake twice with whole dogs and bitch's in the same house, seperated or not) and sounded as if she was a good'un. We don't have sheep round here, just beef cattle and dairy.
  22. Sounds a really nice cross all the best with them. Was trying to work out the breeding percentages of the pups lol. This is what I got: Greyhound 7/16 Collie 2/16 Bull 3/16 Saluki 2/16 Whippet 2/16 That's presuming the Saluki Great Grand parent was crossed to a 3/4 Grey 1/4 Bull or did I miss read it? And yes I am bored! lol
  23. Are these pups straight half cross Saluki/grey? or is there other breeds in the mix?
