There's a fair few European countries that have made it illegal to run a sighthound on anything, and in some it's illegal to even have them off a lead . They must be muzzled and kept on a lead when outside.... Saying that their is some cracking places to hunt in Europe and this year thats exactly what I'm doing! Tess has her passport sorted, just got to get mine renewed and were off!!!

Damn it, didn't realise it was on. only just up the road from me but I ended up spending the day following the wife round the shops...

I believe this has come up a few times, Usually just breed from KC stuff for the £££. Their originally a french wildfowler's dog (hence the tight, warm, waterproof coat) so find a working one in Europe and I'm sure it'd be fine. The Belgiuns used them for guard dogs at one point too I believe so should in theory have some drive about them and be trainable. I think crossed to a Grey, they would catch stuff but I guess they'd be quite specialist, being a large, heavy, runner. Apart from the coat, I can't see what else a Poodle would bring to a lurcher that they haven't already got? You'd

Lurcher Breeding ? What is needed.
bullmastiff replied to chartpolski's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I've been thinking on this breeding of the perfect lurcher for your own permission for quite a while. The land you hunt, the way you hunt and the quarry your after are all major factor's in what you look for from your dog. The the land I hunt has very few Rabbits so you don't get many runs (so stamina not really an issue) but has a fair amount of larger/faster stuff so the ones you did get were all about speed. Most fields are between 5-12 acres each so a dog's got room to open up a bit but also still needs enough drive to be able to hit into the cover and tackle shot, toothed game. I als -
Usually worth a look about with a fair few have a go events to try. Will be entering Tess in the Gundog trials again and see if we can flatten the photographer again during the Terrier Racing! Just been looking through the site and there's some stunning lots up for grabs in the Silent Auction, from a days Pheasant and Partridge shooting, a days hunting with the Seavington, South Dorset or Wilton Hunt. A weeks Salmon fishing on the Alvie beats of the Spey and Feshie. All the way up to a Private Box at the Royal Albert Hall for a Night at the Proms for up to 12 people. website link.

£50 a run on Hare!!! Man I need to start sending out invites to you coursing lads lol! Slip the dog on some of my permission and they all spring up like a bomb burst. The dog won't know which way to run! I haven't got a dog that could catch a Hare, so Tess just gives them a bit of exercise.

After realising last year we'd been to more Foreign countries than we had British Counties, we decided to start touring Britain camping for long weekends in different places around the UK. I posted this last year and got some great idea's for places to go camping including camp sites near Hawes in Yorkshire and Glen Coe in Scotland, so thought I'd try it again this year and hope I get a few more good idea's on places to visit. The main requirements are: Child and Dog friendly, Nice walks/scenery, Not too expensive, and also a decent pub within a few miles preferably. I'm in Sou

how many dogs do you keep??
bullmastiff replied to lamping lurchers's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
We had a falling out with one of our neighbors who then reported us to the council for having 3 dogs. They wrote us a letter saying we must get rid of one but we got the Housing officer and local Dog warden round to check the dogs and how their kept then explained one is quite old and won't be with us much longer. They accepted this and we haven't heard back since from them. That was almost a year ago, so they obviously don't bother to recheck the dogs afterwards. -
Crewkerne Lurcher & Terrier Show
bullmastiff replied to staffiedownwest's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Well I entered Tess in the Sim Coursing, she was running against a 12 month old 28" deer/grey and surprisingly she managed to keep up down the first stright and to the first corner, then lost the lure through the grass so was out straight away! lol Still she had fun and got to stretch her legs. Then entered her in the straight racing were she was still out first round but really surprised me, managing to keep in the tight group of normal Lurchers for probably the first 100-150yds, after this distance and over the next 100yds they all start pulling away and beat her by 3-4 lengths, she just d -
I'd be interested, going to try and start getting away for trips out again. Used to do it a lot when I was a younger and would like to see what's new. Cheers Luke

Hiya Rob, sorry for the late reply. Were all good thanks, still working the long hours in the docks at the moment, trying to take the money whilst it's still there. You'd of wiped out my entire permission of Rabbits taking that many up here in one night! lol mind you, you could probably take that many Roe in a single night lol!!! Maybe I could ship some down to you! As you saw when you came up here for a 'walk' with the dogs, there's large amounts of Roe around here but also loads of small lanes being used by d*cks thinking their on a rally stage. On most of my permissions your not

Crewkerne Lurcher & Terrier Show
bullmastiff replied to staffiedownwest's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Will be coming again this year, it's definately one of the better shows in the area. I'll be handing back the Simulated Coursing and Working Lurcher trophies this year, as Roo's passed on and I can't really see Tess winning the coursing!!! so good luck to everyone in winning them this year. I'll be entering Tess anyway for a laugh as it's all for charity so why not give it a go eh?? If you see a stocky, dark brindle bitch stood on it's back legs or doing cartwheels, screaming to chase the lure and a rather embarrassed guy on the end of the lead then that'll be me, so feel free to pop ove -
When I had a Springer, we used to keep him in a kennel outside, we converted a small garden shed into a Kennel by cutting a 'pop' hole in the side and then building a smaller sleeping area inside it. All we did was screw batons to each side wall and slide planks down between them as a front then a thick sheet of plyboard rested on brackets as an internal roof (to keep the heat in the bedding area during winter). His main bedding was straw but we also put a piece of carpet on the roof of the internal box which he spent most of his time on. I guess the size of the run depends on the amount of t

I just leave the tape in the Sony Handycam and plug the cam into the computer using a usb lead. You can get tape players for computers but their quite expensive I believe?

Definately all blokes..... or 'were' blokes lol

As well as lamping with Tess, I also take her Beating and picking-up on the local Pheasant shoot and also working with the air rifle. She has a pretty good retrieve and I enter her in the gundog trials at the local game fairs where she does ok but I would never expect her to be as good as or better than a true gundog. IMO the biggest difference you'll probably find between Lurcher's and working gundog's is that they will be a lot harder work to get to a decent standard. A decent Lurcher will only make an average gundog. I'm sure a Lurcher with a decent dose of Collie could be trained to a

probably hid in some of the supplies that were craned to the top of the tower then got stuck up there I'd guess? How do they know it's been up there for 2 weeks though??? if they knew before why didn't they do something about it sooner???

Being cheeky now but has anyone got a copy they could send me? I wouldn't mind a look at it.
