Usually a good event to go to. Found the stalls a bit pricey last year and most things were about the same price as the shops but the 'Have a go' events and exibitions are usually worth it. Details

That's a ridiculous statement trying to single out Bull crosses as being the only breed to add something to the 'modern day' lurcher for running illegal quarry. What about Saluki's, Greyhounds etc? So your trying to tell us that all we should be running with is Whippets?? as that's all you need for Rabbits.

glad to see someone using kgs. they have been using them in am boxing for twenty year!! any one think were in america, every one walking with dinosaurs! ha so how tall are you? what did you weigh when you was born They do it in cm and kilo's now... My daughter's 5 now and I had to get them to convert the weight/height into something I could actually understand! lol Wood measurements the worst for it, Length is measured in Metric and the width/depth is measured in Imperial!!!

What days do you mainly shoot on? I can't do week days but should be able to help out weekends. I'm from south Somerset (Wincanton) so I don't think too far away.

Lovely looking Bitch, looks like she's got nice tight feet too?

Tess, Bullmastiff x Bullgrey now about 18 month's old, 24tts and about 55lb I had her retreiving shot game by about 6 month's and competing in the Gundog trials by 12 month's, she did surprisingly well and has put in some good times. I let her have a few easy runs to start her off during late Summer/ early winter on the lamp but haven't been able to give her as much running work as I wanted too this season due to me working long hours away at Plymouth docks and her injuring herself. She's broken her Dew claws twice, last time just before xmas I got them taken off. Then about 5 weeks ago she

Survey completed. Don't forget, hunting if controlled correctly can also help save species from under-population/extinction too. If you add value to an animal (almost as if it was a commodity) then this encourages people to help them either by captive breeding programs or habitat control to encourage wild breeding (or both). Plus I think you missed two of the most fundamental reasons for Hunting - Food and Pest control... All the best with your Thesis.

Man they look good! really wish I had pushed the missus harder to have a new pup!!! or just brought it home saying I'd rescued it lol Good luck with them for next season

Maybe it's just a Somerset/Dorset thing then lol. Thats how you know when you've been in Somerset too long, Your wife, sister and daughter comes to less than three people and Old billy is more likely to be seen on a your plate than he is in the fields....

What good wellies you using and where they from
bullmastiff replied to lewis_sufc's topic in General Talk
You can buy a pair of aigles from Mole Valley Farmers for £36 at the moment. Cracking boots so far, soft rubber and with a decent sole. Don't know how they'll last but got to be better than the cheapies I used to wear!!! http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf/store/products/aigle-chambord-pro-wellington-boots-khaki -
Best O/U for a 12 year old?
bullmastiff replied to Tommy.H's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I think if you got him a 28 bore he'd out grow it within a few years and be wanting to upgrade to a larger calibre? plus it'll probably be built on a 20bore action so won't be that much lighter, the cost of cartridges will probably be higher and less available than more standard Bores? Just my thoughts but you wouldn't go far wrong with a half decent 20bore (on a 20bore action) with light loads. Another plus, I think you'll find yourself using his gun more than your 12g! I used one on beaters day and I'd forgotten how much fun they are too shoot with!!! -
sorry just seen there were more replies to this I hadn't answered. Ian any chance you could explain where the Glands are? is it either side of the bum, below the tail? What I do is cut it up into portions or chunks (for stew) then put it in a freezer bag before freezing it, then when I want to eat it, I simply take it out the day before I want it and bung it in a bowl of salted water and cover it with a tea towel or cling film. The frozen rabbit will help keep it all cool and fresh so no need to put it in the fridge. Then the next day drain it, wash it under the tap in a colli

Used to use opinal knives when I was younger and as said were brilliant blades but I found with a lot of opening and closing the handle would wear so the blade could fall open in your pocket, had many a hole in my pockets because of them! lol I believe you can lock them closed now days though? It's best to use a Vegtable oil on your cutting blades rather than Mineral oils like WD40 etc. The main reason for that is the oil is still on the blade when your gutting, skinning and jointing. Which means your getting small amounts of oil all over your dinner! With any knife I've had I always put

bullmastiff replied to rabbit mad's topic in Fieldsport Opportunities
I'm not far from you and could probably get you out for a few runs. Trouble is though Tess is still only starting out herself really so is still fairly inexperienced and is bred for larger quarry but she's having crate rest/light exercise at the minute as she's ripped a nail off. Also there's not that many Rabbit's around on my permission at the min... Lots of other stuff to run, just not many rabbits! lol but your welcome to come out anyway. Either way you'll be welcome to come for a mooch about in a few weeks All the best Luke. -
If your not expecting him to catch then don't slip him. Simple... Any young dog should be given every chance you can to ensure they catch their first few rabbits. Searching about for hours trying to find a perfect squatter in the middle of a field or as Shugy said, drop him a rabbit in the middle of a field. Long grass, young rabbits, it's all ways of upping the chance your dog will catch and increase their confidence. As Jack said it'll ended up yapping or just pulling up as it realises it can't catch. Just concentrate on it's basic training for now.

I live about 10 miles from their! It's called 'Country Ham' by the way.... Thats why their refered to as 'Pigs' lol (and of course the fact they root everything up!!! lol).

Go careful with Lithium batteries. They won't just smoke and boil when overcharged/shorted out..... Something they don't like to tell you about them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjAtBiTSsKY

Let him have the rabbit! lol. Your not in any rush to have it so let him carry it for awhile. I used two different methods when teaching Roo and then Tess. I guess it depends on the dog's temperament and also their retrieving abilities. With Tess, she got praised for bringing anything to me, toys, slippers, socks, plant pots... everything! only if I caught her actually trying to pick something up that she shouldn't would I tell her 'NO', If it was already in her mouth and on the way to me she'd get praise. They learn soon enough what their not allowed to touch. As she was still quite

Maybe try contacting a stalker in your area and buy a carcase from him yourself, cut out the middle man so to speak? Will be a damn sight cheaper that way. Must be someone on here from near Burnley that shoots deer?

shooting a muntjack this time of year (England)
bullmastiff replied to adam scott's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
I haven't read section 7 of the Deer Act 1991 so don't know all the relevant info but would definately require reading before you have a go at a deer with a Shotgun.... Cut from shootinglaw.co.uk "In certain, limited circumstances (where serious damage is being caused) it is of course legal to use a shotgun. S.7 of the Deer Act 1991 provides that it must not be less than a 12 bore. It may only be used by the occupier of the land and other specific categories of person when damage is being done by deer of the same species that are being shot. For example, it would not be legal to shoo
