  1. I'll be there Sunday. Stiches out of the bitches wrist today & and an ugly duckling so they'll do well lol.
  2. Very good! You seem to be able to capture the essence of the movement
  3. Good looking dogs. Good luck.
  4. I did a literature search on this subject and the seemed to be based on valid research. "Dogs involved in sprinting and weight pulling activities such as sight hound racing or sledge pulling competitions undergo short periods of very intense exercise. A greyhound expends approximately 75 kcal per race. The energy required for these types of activities is solely anaerobic and comes from the muscle energy stores. An appropriate feeding regime for sprint type canine athletes consists of a diet that contains approximately 25% calories from protein, 30% calories from fat and 45% calories from
  5. As a lad we moved next to a pigeon " Fancier" one day the terrier caught one in the back garden so i pushed it through the fence till he came home. When i saw him coming up the street i told him what had happened, he was all bravardo how it wouldn't be a good one as they would be to quick for the dog, came round 5 mins later going ape clutching his best bird. Birds of prey are on the increase but are a natural predator to pigeons and song birds, part of what shaped their evolution to what they are today. To try to blame the reduction of song thrushes on them is a little child like. IMO watch
  6. Bedlington/whippet to collie greyhound excellent dog 23", very hard but wonderful strike, would recomend. That was about 30yrs ago they don't seem as hard these days or is it just memories playing tricks.
  7. Bring on the sapling, surf year round, running few races, MTB, doing up the house, friends/family staying, go to a few local shows, might try and get a few pastles, done and try to get a holiday in somewhere.
  8. Back to basic retreiving training and cross your fingers. good luck sandy
  9. as others have said the grew looks a tidy sort.
  10. In physical terms a bigger dog is likely to weight more than a smaller one and so will take more to excelerate or decelerate than a lighter one. This means that on short runs it would have less exceleration so less time to strike, on top of this will be the decreased deceleration so wider slower turns again less time within striking range. But of course in reality it's not that simple, a good big one is good, a bad little one bad, so much will depend on things beyond the pure physics. On the whole a small rabbit dog should in theory have a better chance of being decent catcher than a large o
  11. It feels horrible and a little bizarre anyone will know it as soon as they feel it. The injection was probably to let the air out of the space between the lung and the rib cage, hollow needle, so the lung could re-inflate. A pneumothorax is likely with a chest wound as its the lung can get punctured and so air is pumped under the skin from inside and the lung will partially collapse. A pneumothorax is a vetinary emergency and will require re-inflation for all but the smallest and treatment for the causeative factor, such as a fractured rib, but this is less likely to be linked if the "bub
  12. i prefered daytime but each to their own i wouldn't knock them that did lamp.
  13. Sorry was a little rushed yesterday. I've had this a couple of times in the past usually 2nd to skin tears/puntures near an articulating area such as a joint, twice to the inner thigh were it joins the abdomen due miss-judged jumping over barbed wire. Both cases once stitched resolved without further intervention. Basically air is sucked under the skin through the hole by the movement. It is possible to get similar without the wound but i've not had experience with this. I'd have a close look the exclude a puncture wound or infection, monitor to ensure it's not increasing, rest and keep a cl
  14. Sounds like "surgical emphysema". Often resolves on own depends on what started it. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003286.htm this is humans and a bit scary bit will give a little background. Was there any injuries i.e puncture wounds or heavy knocks to the area. Perhaps good idea to get a little advice.
  15. it was the hb that was low from the blood test results, stools were very dark. he had a 2 week course of 3 sets of tablets 3 times a day(not sure what they were exactly) and was put on a sicence plan id diet. im taking him to a recomended vet from this forum tomorrow ill let you know the out come all the best sandy.
  16. Hi Plummer, I would be interested to know more about the abcess as a general thing. As to the symptoms you describe, if taken in light of the recent history, the most likely reason would be anaemia due to blood loss from the abcess and the recovery time will depend on ho low the haemaglobin (Hb) is. Did the pup pass dark stools, digested blood gives dark tarry poo, vomit any fluid that looked like coffee grounds or pass any fresh blood in the stools? It's not uncommen for a human to get an ulcer bleeding away in their stomach for some time without them knowing untill they become listless and
  17. Beddy/whippet to clolie greyhound was the best general purpose dog i've owned so far, not perfect at anthing but resonable at all, but pick a larger pup.
  18. I've been on the sunday the last 2 years so expect I'll make it three.
  19. It's good to see Deerhound crosses coming back into vogue a little. About 15 years agoe had a deerhound/grey to collie/grey that did alright on the south downs hares, he didn't have the agility of the saluki cross he often ran with, 2" taller and strongly built in comparison to the saluki hybred, but was often in the right place at the right time when it came to the strike. Have a bull/greyhound to deerhound/greyhound of about 11 months at the present and have high hopes for him.
  20. Very difficult question. Heart murmurs come in different grades dependent on there seriousness. a small grade one murmur will cause little in the way of problems beaing maybe a little back flow into one of the blood vessels but a more serious one can be very serious. You perhaps need to have a chat over the phone with your vet as to how bad your dogs is and what exercise is recommended. Keeping the dog as fit as possible within the recomended bounds and good weight control is important to optimise the heart and minimise any strain.
