  1. Perhaps as the trophy ages a little the scents will change and the fresh scent in the field would be different but interesting idea.
  2. Agree with Kipo if cooked potatoes are a good source of carbs but i wouldn't give them as a large part of the diet. They will certainly be ok as part of a balenced diet one or twice a week ie table scraps etc.
  3. Could try a bit of saturation therapy ie take it were there are lots of dogs untill other dogs are the norm and so nothing to get excited about. This method used in conjunction with distraction and leave commands has worked for me, i rarely chase dogs anymore lol.

  5. Have a sapling of similer breeding deer/grey over bull/grey, preparing for his first season though already self entered and pleased so far so have a bump on me.
  6. Lordy a crow lol. As a Crow, you are analytical, adaptable, and exceedingly clever. You like solving problems, sharing a hearty laugh with friends, and most of all, enjoying a good meal. Your inquisitive, philosophical nature leads you to constantly question authority and the status quo, sometimes just for the sake of asking, "Why?"
  7. lol for men one is never enough.
  8. Usually a virus but can be bacterial and the virus can lead to a secondary bacterial infection, keep warm, rest and away from other dogs if not improving then to the vets for some antibiotics/alternative diagnosis etc. Some swear by cough mixture but if you try stick to a simple linctus type nothing with other medications in it. good luck.
  9. Glucose tabs, mars bars, recharge etc will all give a boost of glucose that may give an energy boost to hard sprinting sighthounds/lurchers. Most electrolyte sulutions, salt water, were designed for horses and humans to replace the salts lost in sweat so are of less value to dogs, unless yours sweats a lot. Adding a percentage of carbs to a dogs diet may reduce the need for suppliments during work but a dog can only load so much carbohydrate so maybe a boost during a long night may be useful tho perhaps not a mars bar lol, (having said that i've done it myself in the past). Will PM some info.
  10. Split litter is the most realistic answer as the chances of a throw back of that degree is very very small. If so are there any likely looking strays in the area to report to the CSA.
  11. Back to the original question. Breeding from inherited rather than proven abilities is used in greyhounds, horses and occaisionally lurchers. My pups dam has never worked but the line is well proven, she has good movement and a good temprement, for a bull cross, so was happy to except her credentials as a brood when covered by a well bred working sire. Greyhounds feet are variable but as the impact they are put under is greater than most lurchers they tend to suffer more injuries, greater speed greater impact forces. That goes for skin as well. Greyhounds are sprinters, some more so than
  12. Was up visiting the inlaws and popped along, nice country show, not many lurchers. Heard a fellas dogs from down devon won over 26" dog, bull cross and 23 rough bitch thought there weren't any competition lol. Burgers weren't bad.
  13. Slight error but all seemed to be promoting raw meat alone which is not balenced. On the other hand Mr Bill himself has admitted that the BARF diet has NO research base. The idea that you should just throw your dog a bit of meat daily as some seem to be promoting is about as balenced as feeding pure cornflakes. I'm away for a few days but would love to see some evidence for raw rather than balenced, please not "it's a wolf mumbo jumbo" or look at it's teeth but evidence. Will look on my return.
  14. In spite of what the born again barfists would have you believe pups need a balenced diet not just meat. Feeding a wide range of different food gives a wide range of nutrients. Personally I'd choose a good quality puppy food as a base with the addition of raw and cooked meat and veg but for an inexperienced owner it may be wise to stay with the complete as a major part of the feed. Remember pet quality meat may be from fallen stock and if so can contain a cocktail of drugs depending on cause of death so cooking pet mince may be safer or using butchers waste meat if feeding raw. The complete
  15. The itching all over doesn't sound like ringworm, had it myself as a youngester, but without a picture it would be a little silly to make, even a tentative diagnosis, ie look at ringworm. But for future reference selsun shampo contains a copper fungicide that if applied, dabbed on with a little cottenwool to isolated spots, a few times a day for a week or so will clear up ringworm (worked for me lol).
  16. They're about as real as aliens and british big cats.
  17. Keep making it all fun, ie big fuss when it comes back, so that returning to call is a pleasure. Make sure you call and send away not just call and put on the lead.
  18. Training classes as planned is a good idea. When you call the pup make it exciting and it'll want to return.
  19. In simple terms if a dog or human eats the same amount of calories as they burn each day then they will remain at a stable weight. If they eat more than they burn they will gain weight. If they eat less they will lose weight. Different individuals with have different resting metabolic rates depending on muscle/fat ratios, activity etc but these differences are very small. Muscle burns calories just sitting still so big muscles increase the resting metabolic rate but fat also burns calories so fat individuals may well have a higher rate than a skinny one. Unless there is any underlyin
