  1. Lot of reading, based on USA though relvant to all, but worth the effort. Leptospirosis by Dr. Henry De Boer Jr. Question: My dog was recently diagnosed with Leptospirosis. What is this disease and where would my dog have been exposed to it? My dog never misses his annual vaccinations – shouldn't’t they have protected him? Answer: Leptospirosis is considered to be a reemerging disease of companion animals. This disease has been recognized for over one hundred years, and there has been an effective commercial vaccine available for approximately the last thirty years. Until recent
  2. A balenced mixed diet that includes a variety of different food sources, ie raw and cooked animal and vegtable products will give a wide as possible nutrient base as well as preparing the pup to except a variety of food stuffs later in life. Dale et al conducted a study on pups given 1 of 9 different diets that included high fat, protein or carb and came to the conclusion "The general response of these young dogs was not markedly influenced by consumption of diets ranging from carbohydrate-free to high-carbohydrate and from adequate-protein to high-protein."
  3. Some dogs will do more harm than good with a wound if left to their own devices. i have a bitch that will turn a scratch into an open wound in two days if left uncovered. I use the sock trick on lower legs to good effect tape above a joint where it's wider, not to tight you don't want to reduce circulation, and monitor for the first few hours. good luck.
  4. A lot will depend on the dogs breeding as to how much weight it will carry but your sapling sounds though it should'nt be to light. It can take a while for a dog to get used to new foods so bear with it. I'd pop along to the butchers and see if they have any wate bones/meat such as lamb ribs or necks and feed these raw a couple of times a week. The fat content will increase the total calorie intake. Once its used to raw food it may well take to chicken but, as above, many don't feed cooked chicken bones as there is a risk of problems. As with all things tinned food comes in variable qualities
  5. Is it a wolf or jackle? There are some reports of imature leopards being killed by bull breeds but not the norm as dogs feature highly on leopards prey list.
  6. Myxi is mainly spread by fleas in britain so high numbers of rabbits mean greater contact with others so alowing easier spread of fleas and so the disease. As to introducing rabbits or eny other species if the habitat is not right they won't thrive and maybe thats why there not there in the first place.
  7. "Why ?, its not for an easier living, as i watch some of them scratching hard to exhist,...." (Sirocco) for many it is an easier living, town foxes don't have to catch their dinner it's just taken from the nearest bin outside the takaway or fed to them by a 'kindly animal lover'. For peregrines there's an abundance of starlings and feral pidgeons in our cities. The urban environment is a patchwork of habitats that suit many native and non native creatures against the countrysides, often, sterile monocultures.

    Running

good for you, running is one of the best cardiovasculer and calorie burning excercise there are, and your dogs will love it too. The advice about running shoes is important and i would recomend that you go to a running shop, rather than any old sports shop, to get some proper advice this will cost a little more for the shoes but once you know what type you need then you can buy cheaper elsewhere. Once again well done you.
  10. Stick a halti on and see a trainer to learn how to alter the behavior in the long tem. Reminds me of back along in the 's when i was walking a group of racers, fella comes by with a rat on a rope type dog that starts yapping a the greys. Well as you can imagine they started to lunge, one then another etc. The fella shouted ere mate what would you do if all them dogs pulled at once? I answered about 40 miles an hour so f%ck off out of it with that little sh$t lol.
  11. Love to see them, IMO all birds of prey are excellent bits of kit.
  12. A lttle info on this site. http://bullterriers.co.uk/html/vaccinations.html
  13. Dykos posted excellent reply to the first post, as to the jumping debate a daytime dog needs to be a good jumper but I don't encourage lampers to jump.
  14. Looks a good strong dog.
  15. Glad the dogs sorted. Interesting thread something to learn a little knowledge is a dangerous thing! Honey has been used in medicine four ever, certainly not a new thing, but you need to know when to use it. Flour is a new one to me & can't see how it would work.
  16. Stevenstone Hunt kennels, Torrington, N/Devon on Sunday the 18th. I believe theres racing and showing. Anyone going?
  17. Shoot the fecking vet and go to a decent one, bear in mind that the RSPCA would love a neglect case.
  18. Why pay through the nose for posh manuka when ordinary british does just the same? it's a bit like spending £2.99 for neurofen when tescos own ibuprofen is exactly the same drug for 99p! Just paying for a name.
  19. Just look at the difference between a 100m sprinter and an 800m runner.
  20. It's a sad reflection on the society we live in.
  21. Good show, well judged, enjoyed the day.
