For lamping i will use about 8x usually. N/V will be - it depends. It depends what sort of N/V you have. The more you turn up the mag the less clearer the image is at distance. On mine which attaches to the eye piece of my scope (unavailable in the UK) it is still clear at 200 yds on 7x but for best results out to 300 yds I turn it down to 5.5x

Crown Trouble on my fox bowler

This will be the best advise you will get on this thread. I always make a point after removing the mod to soak a patch in Shooter's Choice (MC7) and rub it around the outside of the muzzle then repeat with KanoCriol which is probably the best lubricant/water displacement solution you can have in your cleaning box. -
How high is this pheasant?
dicehorn replied to LordGamebore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Most european woodland trees dont grow over 70 feet and if you can assume the best of these birds were flying no more than 20 feet over the tree tops - 70 + 20 = 90 divided by 3 gives around 30 yards up. I'm afraid people tend to get carried away with the height of birds because looking up into clear sky gives us no yardstick for distances compared to ground measurements Peter -
Not quite sure why anyone needs to spend hard earned cash in large sums for stalking sticks that are sooooo easy to make.. Pop along to your local garden centre and pick up three of their green metal support sticks that about 5 foot long. Then pop over to your local dairy farm and ask him for the inner lining from a milking suction cap (they change them quite often). Then off to your DIY shop for a length of pipe lagging foam TOTAL cost sticks - £6 pipe lagging £2 -- job done Here is a picture of mine. I have attached to the sticks a complete inner tube. All you do is cut o

My opinion is not to try and sort this obvious problem out at 200 yards - although in the great scheme of things its not a great distance, nevertheless you may be building human error into the problem. Suggest you bring your target back to 50 yards where you would normally expect a centre fire to group sub .5MOA and see if the problem persists. I assume you have been successful with your grouping previously at 200 yards and this problem has only now started to happen. Peter -
My friend (a pro stalker) and myself both shoot 120g BT Noslers in our 6.5 s. Another friend shoots 129g Hornaday SST in his 6.5. We all shoot the common deer around here - red, fallow and roe. Peter

White fallow are pretty common in the UK, Roe on the other hand are quite rare. AFAIK this buck is only a spiker and I would suggest the 'trophy' is in its pelt On a deer farm not 3 miles from me they have two white red hinds

I'll second that. Alot of the powder and bullet manufacturers produce reloading books but then you are limited to their powder/bullet suggestions. The ABC is perhaps the best 'first' book on reloading to get.

may sound like a silly question but

This is true. A deer that has been gut shot is not really a lost cause for the table. Generally the front and back legs should be fine. The saddle may become tainted. It all really depends how long the rumen (stomach contents) have been sloshing around in the beast since being shot. -
Not quite sure what you intended to write here. However the Blaser bolt is a very simple bolt to strip for cleaning and as for the pull action, one gets used to it very quickly and would soon see the benefits of this type of action. I have had two Blasers for nearly 10 years - off road in 6.5 x 55 and a Luxus in 22.250 - or if needed they could be the other way around!! I have three other conventional bolt action rifles and never get confused between them and the Blasers what kind of accuracy do you get out of you blaser, I understand it is very good.... Mag hold

dicehorn replied to Night Hunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
thankyou liam , i will give it a try and let you know what happens i never thaught about changing the type of primers the load i was using was 55gr nosler bt heads and vit n140 @ 34gr with cci large rifle primers with a C.O.L.of 2.350nches NH - you are almost there with your recipe. I shoot an R93 and a Rem 700 Tactical both in 22.250. I use the same recipe for both as does a friend with his CZ550 I use Remmington cases, CCI primers, N150 @ 37gr, 55 grVmax and bullets are seated on the ogive at 1.970 which + COL 2.373 Both rifles shoot sub .3 at 100 yds. The speed of your bullet Remmie is the reason (as you know) for little or no meat damage. Problem for the shooters with 243 going at 3300 fps always equals severe tissue damage. That is why the 308 and 6.5 users with their fps at around 2800 see nice small exit holes.

Hi DRJ Assume the scope/rings are on the rifle tightly and the barrel is screwed firmly to the stock and the barrel is not touching the front of the fore end? Have you tried the same distance with the mod off? If not that is your first task. If your results are the same and bearing in mind what you say about the threading, I would take the rifle back to the shop/previous owner and ask them/him to prove there is nothing wrong with the rifle. Even with factory ammo, at 50 yards that 6.5 should virtually group one holers.

Unless it had eaten a stone..............pun you know (stone = 14 lbs)
-
I stand corrected - but I was always led to believe that it was the speed (whether you let the barrel cool down or not) that burnt barrels - as in the 17 rem's barrel life was assumed short because of the velocity of the bullet.
-
Hm...pretty fast for a 22.250 I just wonder how many shots of that speed you will get from your barrel?

My NXS is 5.5 - 22 but for shots out to 300 yards using amber filter light I normally keep the magnification on about 8

The biggest stag youve ever seen?
dicehorn replied to tommydeer's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Show me a stag with a decent mane in summer whilst their growing their velvet and i'll hold my hands up, but cant say ive ever seen one with what id call a mane until building up for the rut. Id say its a very real stag. 44 points. Myabe not pretty in some peoples opinion, but certainly real Mature stags down my way have a mane of sorts in mid summer, but agree not as pronounced as in October. Could not at the time find this photo of two young stags taken mid August. Manes are there but perhaps not the best picture http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq101/w...ailIMG_0114. -
