  2. If the dogs ok now it will be alright theres two Herbal remedies for snakebite in the uk they are echinacea and goldenseal both will help sort the immune system out after a bite and good old garlic a capsule twice daily will clean the blood it will be a bit late for the first two but give the garlic a go best blood detoxifier there is imo
  3. Theres some real old strains about amongst the coursing lads from early seventies and some from 20 yrs or so before that if you trace their ancestry atb
  4. The common name for goose grass is cleavers isnt it ? Also thought dogs ate grass to stop em smelling doggy as much as they eat it to vomit mine eat most days and are never sick as theres no bile to get rid of as there always fit. Anyone remember Amplex years ago was a concoction of stuff full of clorophyl to stop bitches smelling on heat ATB
  5. :notworthy: :clapper: You got me proper Bushy know the spot its by the big lake if im not mistaken Mind you just might bump into something strange up there there used to be an old lane there running to the back of the pit when we was kids we used to bird nest it a lot one day something charged through them brambles that could have only been a pig mate and had my first ever munty on that lane a loooong time ago now All the best mate
  6. Go on trappa you will never look back Canny beat home grown were on the list at ours mind you check the lottys out first one of the sites near us uses them for communty service loads of hassle mess and tools going missing no fun when all you want is some peace and quiet. Its worth getting to know the other allotment holders to find out if theres any problems or any bad plots. Last year i introduced myself to the other good site near me and got a share of a plot as an old boy needed a hand also planted every square inch of the council borders near my house council didnt mind suprising
  7. Seaweeds grand stuff We manure every five years with well rotted stable manure but every year give em a bit of fish blood and bone meal a fortnight after planting and one of the best tips ive been given is to put rhubarb and comfrey leaves in the water butt when they rot down they stink but it feeds the plants and most importantly it keeps the pests off especially cabbage white butterflys as there catterpillars are a pain
  8. Plenty of blacks about more so than the spotted type where we are im sure i read somwhere thats their original colouring and their name comes from the saxon feelaw meening blackish grey. Can remember the first one i saw thought it was a doberman in the wood lol.
  9. Chicken beef and brest of lamb from the butches dont cost much if your feeding a bit of what they catch too. Brown bred or good quality biscuit a bit of tinnned fish now and again and you cant go wrong. Dried meat i wouldnt trust heard bad things about how it holds tapeworm eggs seen a few lads try it but only for a bit wormers cost money give em proper food fit for hunman consumption and you not get half as many parasites
  10. Agreat read sandymere science isnt half baffling ive found you cant beat your own eyes and hands for finding condition Weve always fed flesh and carbs the muscle seems to get firmer when using carbs when we fed flesh only the coat, urine and general condition wasnt as good yis.
  11. Hope he comes good mate i would have left the thorn in till you got to the vets but its easy to panic when something like that happens . We had a whippet that lost her eye do to a thorn the vet took it out and stitched the eye over as there was no way to save it never stopped her catching though she compensated for the lost eye used to try and get the bunnys on her good side when running and shed go down the beam with her head at an angle to get a better look and she still caught good numbers
  12. Ive used the fat for cooking stuff outdoors it doesnt all render down but would be enough for a few roast spuds id have thought,
  13. Off of proven stock there well worth the coin seen a few litters about off of untested hounds know what id sooner purchase you can see theyve been cared for shadow great looking bunch of youngsters
  14. Why breed a half cross if your after a 3/4 bred Personally id be looking for the best half cross of the breed you require one thats thrown good animmals then get the right purebred to breed it to im sure theres a few good half breds out there of all crosses. Creating your own line from scratch isnt easy a lot of mouths to feed and you will have to cull any weakness out, 3/4 breds can be good or really bad if you dont know what to look for in a pup to make sure you get a good one you will have to keep a few back to get the one thats thrown right if not you may give the best one away.
  15. A lurcher gets nicked cops do nothing but go walking the fields daytime with a juk and there all over you like a rash typical english policing that is Im out newark way and have been keeping my eyes open for you shamo someone told em where to come and about the dog, if im ever asked by the lads from tolney lane etc if the dogs any good i always tell em there rescues thats had unjurys as i know just how determined some can be to get a good dog without putting the work in themselves. My old boy upped sticks as he was plauged by thieves and not all travellers either trying for his line of dog
  16. Sheep are all heavy with young this time of year and chasing a sheep now is same as worrying em we was brought up in sheep country and they dont mind the majority of dog owners but during the season the farms near tourist spots a few would get shot each year always due to irresponsible folks letting their dogs off that had never been broken to em. price of lamb nowadays im not suprised I know its not fair to the owners of the dogs but its just as unfair on the farmer if half his flock abort due to being worried. If your mates going to contest it hed better be carefull what he says just bei
  17. Heres a quick one I de breast em cut into small pieces fry with garlic spring onions and ginger till they are done [no blood showing] then pour half a jar of plum sauce on em and reduce serve wrapped in a tortilla with salad and mayonaise we have it for supper regularly
  18. Many places have started locking their bins nowadays but if you ask at bakerys and warehouses they will give you the stuff thats about to go out of date. Its amazing how much food is wasted in this country and not just out of date stuff a lots still in date. Once your left with no income you would soon sort yourself out well most would just a bit of thought is needed to make it easier
  19. No outlay needed as long as your near a wood for fuel and timber and a river for water. Know quite a few who dont pay rent where they live Its not that hard living for free if youve a good knowledge of what to eat and catch good preperation of the foods you glean is the main thing preserving is a must you can always trade game for stuff during the winter when theres not much growing if you run short. Its still legal in this country to glean what the farmer leaves a lot will let you help yourself when theyve finished harvesting beetroots onions anything its suprising how much veg you can
  20. Great link Always be 100% what you eat no going back once youve eaten a wrong un. My old mans still picking field and wood blewits even though its frosty most days and oyster mushrooms are in full flush this time of year so are the jews ears [make great volovants] on the elderberry trees here in the midlands
