  1. When we were kids we would eat pignuts whenever we found them growing the fields near me are covered in their little white flowers this year anyone else tried them atb.
  2. Will have to see how it pans out then one thing i lkie about the clear bottles is the build up of algae always found that plants love it either way a good bit of fun and cheap as lol.

  4. be wary of those blewies mate , there about five months early :sick: :sick: :sick: Been picking shrooms for over forty years mate i know a bluey when i see one its not unusual for rings to flush after heavy rain midsummer had blues at this time of the year before but the flys got to them this time which is par for the course in summer ive put them on the compost heap now letting there spores out Tiff you can eat most puffballs here in the uk only one you cant is the earth ball and they are black inside they are a very sweet mushroom but must be picked while they are still

  6. Anyone bother with puffballs great fried in breadcrumbs with a bit of bacon. Went and checked my little spot this morning after all the rain we had got these beautys and also just missed a rare flush of blewies sadly flys beat me to them atb.

Was in the shop the other day and noticed a kit for growing tomatoes upside down saving the need tof staking got me thinking its too late i reckon for the toms now but ive done some chillis in two litre bottles to see if it works will put pics on when i get time. Anyone else seen this or had a go .....ATB

  11. Probably Glyphosphate [deffo the cause of demise of certain species imo]and as tiny tim says trees should be safe but if your bothered theres plenty of elderberry about in the uk shouldnt be too hard to find some thats not near sprays

Id have a go at smoking them but if there only suface tunneling it might not be that effective poisons are better but i hate using them on land im growing on Saw some solar powered mole repellers dont know if theyd be any good they were in B and Q Looks a good bit of land you certainly wont go hungry when its planted and dont you just love the challenge its suprising how quick it will come together Heres mine as of friday done from a wilderness three years ago atb.

A great cross PP there was a line of these dogs about mid to late seventies and the lads that bred them produced a strain that bred true to type something ive seen little of with lurcher lines in general. The bitches were excellent lamp dogs 22-24 to the shoulder the dogs always ended up 25-27 and were match quality the strains gone now and the lads that had them atb with this litter mate.
  15. don't put your rhubarb leafs on the compost bin tie them all together with something heavy [brick] will do place in big barrel and fill with water and keep adding your rhubarb leafs to the water staring every now and again this mixture is great for all your cabbages keeping the cabbage white from your crop.. ..john Not been on here for a bit good to see the thread still going some craking gardens folks. You can use all the above but could be risking introducing disease into your ground. you are much better getting good stock to grow if you shop about its cheap enough look at your local cornstores a kilo of early peas costs about 2.00 70p for a hundred gram of beetroot seeds and also wilkos you can get onion sets about a 1.00 a bag three pkts of seeds for 1.50 or 2.50 for three depending on type its well worth shopping about plus you know there all good to grow.atb
  18. Often wondered about that myself when the farmers set potatoes dont they earth them as there planted. Trappa the lottys looking well as your up north we are a lot further forward in the middle of the country will get some pics up for comparison mind we not beat the cornish they are selling cornish new potatoes at the supermarket right now but they are a pound a pound

  20. Will do matey Catcher 1 your not wrong mate ive noticed they have taken a great interest in wildlife these last few years plenty of spots they used to maintain are now running wild and loads of off cuts piled up cutbacks or planned im not sure but definitely good for the wildlife atb.
  21. Hi Blacktabs, those nest boxes are not often used by TC's. IMO.... I dont doubt it JD theres a couple of pairs about but they havent been near the box. Think your onto a winner mate brilliant idea and easy to do youve definitely inspired me to have a go
  22. Our council has just put up a load of boxes at the back of us. One sort is designed for treecreepers it has two holes at the top and is wedge shaped and fits to the trunk trouble is they put them high up and the only treecreeper nests ive ever found have been under ten foot up i think the design looks cushty can see it everytime i look out the kitchen window nothing is using it yet tits were roosting in it a month ago watched them getting in at night but they havent nested in it atb.
  23. Lamb necks make the best currys a bit fiddly taking the bones out after cooking but better than leg meat imo.

Always looking when im out had some wood sorrel and garlic flowers on a salad yesterday found a good few wild onions on an old trackway near ours last week they havent flowered yet so not sure if they are chives or welsh onions but handy nevertheless. Plus the farmers planted loads of peas beans and carrots local will be using my gleaning rights when he starts cropping bless aspargus is flying on the lotty big spears this year atb
  25. Top job that stove is well done mate My mate done a small version for the bow top last summer just put a door on and a tray for the ashes uses no fuel at all compared to the old pot bellied stoves and throws out more heat atb.
