  1. Good old cook in sauces When your fed up of rabbit stew you canny beat em rabbit in white wine with cream and rabbit chasseur are both good and the red wine sauces are good for hare,
  2. We always do em i the slow cooker with just enough water to make some gravy four to five hours with a few bayleafs and salt and pepper. The slow cooker keeps em moist as long as you dont overcook em. Cooking em in sour cream also makes a good change suits the flavour of the meat. I like plenty of redcurrant cranberry or any hedgrow type sauce and stuffing
  3. Checked you tube out and found this pheasant de breasting kit reckon it would be simple to make one and if its just breast you want it would be ideal http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SUJ5PIytnIE&...feature=related
  4. 4th pic down are blewits they are good to eat and plentyfull this time of year Plenty of good books about ive tried most of the edibles in the uk but found only a few worth bothering with. Its getting late in the season now for a lot of varietys but plenty of field and wood blewits and oyster mushrooms around for the next couple of months all three are good eating and easy to identify. I wouldnt try the others look like poisonous clitocybes to me.
  5. Been caught rabbiting few times daytime last season every time landowner didnt want to prosecute neither did the cops lost a few nets to em always made sure i stashed the locator though too expensive to lose.
  6. Got to Agree 50 quids a good price covers the cost of the pups and thats all that should matter and i reckon they wll make belters All the best with the litter if i had room id be interested in one will put the word out my way.
  7. Best way to get an allrounder is give up work leave yourself with no income except for what the dog can earn you work him both daily and nightly seven days a week for a couple of years and you may be suprised at what levell you can achieve my familys had allround types for years but they were made by living off the dogs and no other income apart from them
  8. Weve always kept allround dogs daytime coursed first then on to ferreting and the lamp not many roe round us preban so fallow was the deer of choice and not many types made the grade singlehanded on fallow. Yearling bucks and does are easy prey but their larger familly members at full maturity take a hard type of a dog weve always kept lurcher to lurcher types from old lines and find they suit well having enough speed and plenty of brainpower to do all thats required in the field.
  9. Anyone needing help on a shoot in exchange for a bit ferreting and general rabbit control in derbyshire please pm
  10. Simply cook on an open fire the smoke adds to the flavour i like jack pike cooked on the bank straight from the water. To cook inside use bay leaves and garlic
  11. Masage with rubbing oils and tinned tomatoes added to the diet if its cramp
  12. Cheers rabitin girl Ive seen this dog run hares to a standstill many a time he just keeps em in the middle of the field running head up exposing as much body as he can then when there totally disorientated he strikes. He hunts himself leaving the wagon when he feels like it i know hes had the line for over fifty years and says it was an old line back then. Hes lead a tough life and is never injured or lame and catches a lot to say hes never lamped a very crafty dog. A better pic of him with his coat just growing back.
  13. My uncles old smithfield collie type hes had this strain all his life living on the road a good sort
  14. As for her feet, well to me they look fecking poor,.and surely destined to collapse after her first real season on the rabbits, ..but,..who can say,...time will surely tell... Funny feet them whippet crosses have my old mans dog has the hare foot of the whippet he said at the time theyd be no good two years of graft down the line and run on gravel and stoney fields and there as good as new
  15. Found this not bad prices and looks a decent artist http://www.pet2portrait.co.uk/
  16. How safe are cell phones this vid made me wonder http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=220_1212848183
  17. pottasium permagnate and surgical spirits mixed as a a dip will harden feet but if there cut just pottasium permagnate in water till they heal as the spirit will really sting them. Which hazel also works but not as good imo
  18. Hes a cracker wish i had the cash love the coloured nose seen that in a few of the old coursing dogs hope he gets a good home mate.
  19. Our familys had a mantle of lurchers over the years there jabbed first time then boostered at 3 yrs thats it never had any disease on the yard even with dogs dying either side of us with parvo at one time good grub clean kennels and yard also helps plenty of bleach used at ours. Interesting point about lepto but 50% is better than no cover a all i would have thought.
  20. Whats he crossed with i thought charlie was a hybrid is he back to the greyhound or saluki or is it a different charlie. sound looking dog mate dont look very old though.
  21. Best of luck to both mark and miles my old man has both types and has equal sucess in the field flushing and retrieving but he puts the work in on the bigger land if its only 3 runs give your bitch plenty of time between runs and you may suprise a few 50 yds is bang on for the size of bitch i would have thought, my dads dog is a lot taller standing at 26 inch and stagnight bred hes suprised a few with his wind.
  22. Some cracking dogs there lads love the nettle bitch
  23. Plenty of up and at em saluki types not all box their hares a lot of the lads i go out with are trying to breed the faster types but keeping the wind thats needed for big land. With the way its going now you want a dog thats quick on its hare saves being on the land to long especially slipping out of the motor.
  24. Cheers leeclackster. Its for close range no more than twenty feet used to have an old crossman pump up that was modified would have been ideal could kill a pheasant at twenty yards sadly it was confiscated many years ago. Im looking at one for clearing a few squirrels off the birdtables too much power is no good for where i intend to use it . would have thought there would have been decent pistols now the gas guns are in.
