  1. I used to have a lurcher years ago that was collie/beddy/grey that would kill fen hares. She was only good for one or two runs though. Not like the saluki types now though that will run 5 or 6 hares a day and still be capable of the killing the last one. My old lurcher has the same parents as Stat's Fly and Cass, who used to run the east of England club.
  2. I always finish the job to be honest. 9 times out of the 10 the fox is still alive (unless your a big fat knacker who carnt run, lol) when you arrive at the seen. I'm not one for standing watching the fox die, so for me catching ability is more important than killing ability. Some dogs have different technique, some pin some shake.
  3. I feed mine half a rabbit each in the morning. In the evening they get chicken or beef mince with rice and veg. On rabbit alone they would lack fat and vitimins.
  4. I had a good night despite the moon. Took the rimmy and the dog. Ended up with 31 rabbits and a shot a fox, which the dog retrieved. I only ran 4 rabbits though as the ground is rock hard. Shot the rest for dog food.
  5. She's got a nice head on her, not your usual bucket type. Have you got any pics of the sire? Is he yours?
  6. Sounds a good cross. Bang some pictures up mate.
  7. It won't mate. Unless its constantly flickering but then you would see that straight away. Only excess voltage or a leak in the coolant gas can blow a filimant lamp.
  8. Depends where you live and run. All the above mentioned cross's will work well but it all depends on the land you run.
  9. Not this time, but been to a couple of ones in the past. They never seem to send the super stars to the uk though which is a shame. I'll still be watching it live though that's for sure. Have a good un mate.
  10. Jumping jacks post say it all really. What more could you want.
  11. She's 12 weeks old. Why you even letting a staff run into her??
  12. Gem, what's up with the one outside? Don't you mind if he gets nicked?
  13. With me, it's mainly down to lurchers been mucky filthy scavengers lol. Much better been outside as my mrs goes mad if she comes downstairs to find the lurchers rolling about on the cream carpet after I've just been out lamping, then after they have eaten there tea (barf) or dead rats as she calls it, they start to lick the babies face!
  14. Are they too low and the dog knocking them? I use low energy lamps. 175 watt which are equivalent to 250 watt. In 2 years I've only replaced 1 bulb in 2 lights. Other than that your just probally unlucky as there is nothing in a light fitting that can make a bulb blow.
  15. That's exactly what I was thinking. If they got hold of a fox in the brambles and took a nip, would they be so keen to follow the same sent next time? Choosing to follow the sent of a pheasant instead. That's probally why people cross them with terriers.
  16. I've only ever seen videos on YouTube, as all my shooting friends have labs. But they do seem to cover a lot of ground very quick, which makes you wonder if they miss stuff?
  17. I see a bitch run, which was saluki x deerhound. She wasn't as good as the coursing dogs that was out that day, but that was just one bitch so I couldn't comment on the breed in general.
  18. Do springers differ much to cockers for this job? If so, in what way?
  19. If she's not 100% I wouldn't breed her. Why not find a bitch that's got good feet and good stamina and one that dosnt over shoot. Then get a pup of that. Cheers
  20. No offence to the kid, but if he's asking on here, he needs to be keeping in simple. Good luck with your pups paulus.
  21. Taking it out with another dog would make things worst as jellosy creeps in. It's not gonna stop hunting up just because another dog has come back to you. If I was you I'd get a acme dog whistle and use that for recall. Shouting his name is next to usess as his name will get called, then here boy, come here then about a dozen words other than the dogs name. Use a whistle and be firm with him. Do it in the day time first and every time you call him, make sure her returns. Don't just call him at the end of a walk or when you see other dogs as he will ascosiate been called with the end of fun and
