  1. cheers Davy, if you havent already got one buy a litter picker for gathering up dead rats,i dont know how i managed before i got one.great for getting them out of tight spots.
  2. hi pionter hws you buddy? si had a few the night before, and i think we had about 15 that night.si had about 30 last night, and im up there again wednesday night! so will have two mags loaded and ready to go before i press record will try and gets some pics next time regards davy Im good Davy,i havent been doing much shooting as i havent had a motor for a few weeks and all my mates except for half and half are only into hunting with dogs or fishing.Ive got to admit that whilst i still like shooting rats im not as keen to go now.We did quite a lot of it last year and as with e
  3. I go sea fishing pretty often so my four dogs, our lasses dog and the cat plus the ferrets get fed fish once a week. For much of the year its whiteys, coalies and flatties that were too deep hooked or foul hooked and couldnt be returned.I also chop up the bodies and head of cod, pollack and ling after the fillets have been removed.Theres still an awfull lot of food for animals after the part we eat has come off. I was fishing on a boat yesterday and whilst i didnt catch much i still came back with a few ling,a pouting, two good whities and 30 odd mackeral some of which the dogs will get and some w
  4. I forget im out of pellets regularly especially if theres been a lull in the action. I thought those rats were not bothered at all by people untill i realized its NV.very clear footage How many were shot between you all?
  5. I think i might try and eat the next squirrel we get.I still see them as rats with bushy tails though so i need to push that thought from my mind before i stick it in my mouth Ferns doing well
  6. It was a nice way to spend an hour or so and im keen to do more of it when the season starts.mine made a canny meal aswell
  7. phantom your experiences of what injuries a rat can sustain and still survive for too long a period are different to mine. but as its our own experiences that shape our views im not saying im right and your wrong. ive wasted my life away hunting rats with dogs, guns and to a lesser degree traps .i still see them as a tough critter and a normal sized rat (14-18 inch nose to tip of tail) aint all that small for an air rifle.as big and id say tougher than alot of young rabbits ive shot infact.
  8. rats generally are very close to a hole, cover,or some structure and will soon be in a place where you cant get at it.i do a bit of live catching myself but i dont go around dispatching injured rats by hand.im not an sas trooper with jackie chan skills its different with dogs,i go hunting with dogs all the time.
  9. im not so sure it would always go down that quickly.that hasnt been my experience when ive mis-hit a rat and its gone into the front of the body.they often are left moving about injured which is why i will only shoot with a multi-shot rifle. im not saying it cant be done,im sure theres loads of airgun buffs who could quote me statistics of pistol power and of amazing shooting with pistols but thats not the real world of ratting where it can often be hard enough to take a steady aim with a rifle.targets are one thing,if you miss so what just re-load but were talking about a living animal he
  10. Nell had a litter from Dougy.Dougy was out of a bitch called Spot which was bred by Simon Fayers out of two of his Gwp/lurcher crosses.Spot was put to Boy Blue so Dougy has roughly 1/4 Gwp in him. Therefore Chippers Merlin has a small amount of pointer in him. Dougy is the brother to the choc/white young bitch called Minnie seen on Chippers dvd.
  11. Ive heard that said before but what has he promised people and not fullfilled????? Ive had a few days out with him and the dogs and will do again im sure,i didnt get chance last season as i always seemed to be busy with something.
  12. He might be but he hasnt looked on here as Warren since May but he could have registered with another username.I havent seen him for a couple of months so im not sure.
  13. you can get tide tables and info on the height from the bbc online.along with the met office website for weather you wont need to get the book unless you want to.
  14. Theres still a few about on that farm we went to last night and when the crops come down other places we go on should see more about the farm buildings.Even if we wiped out all the rats on our permissions id just make a call and go on a mates spots. As for rats jumping at me ive only had a rat land on me three times when out lamping,off-course they sometimes run over your hand when your rodding them out from under stuff or like on sunday when i used a pressure washer to get them moving from under pig pens but thats daytime and you expect it.Like any ratter i do the odd live catch but its safe
  15. out again with half and half. the rain didnt help but still got a few.
  16. the lads parents know where he is going and we arent fecking muppets so dont explain your actions on here.
  17. im always busy doing something mate. had a good day saturday with the hounds.
  18. hi zini, i hate static shooting so nearly everything i do is from stalking/walking up.even with ratting im always on the move even if sitting still is a more effective method.i cant stay still for more than a minute or so. im not a good shot so my range is from very close upto 25 yards,i wouldnt attempt anything over that because i dont practice at bigger ranges and as a ratter im used to shooting at close range more than long.i have to know my zero at close range because a rat could be just six foot away. where ive gone rabbit shooting you can be choosy over what you shoot, theres never any
  19. When looking at any pic of big amounts of shot quarry its important to know if its summer or winter and if its been done from a 4 x 4 or by walking around to put everything into some perspective. Where i go rabbiting with dogs its easy to bag summer bunnies,i spent a summer a few years back shooting them with the air-rifle.Everything was shot, any size. Im not against summer rabbit shooting, far from it infact but i personally got it out of my system though ill shoot any rabbit that wanders into range when shooting rats. The result of a typical two hour summer evenings walk with an airgun.
  20. i havent done much in the last six weeks,at least not with airguns anyway.we were out monday night and got 19 bodies back but i forgot to take a photo.tonight was ok but i couldnt find a few id shot and i lost a rabbit so thats fox food.
