  1. allotments wont give you regular sport mate but ive had a few good sessions on them.its better than nothing. everything is worth a try.
  2. i dont know mate, there will be plenty of places in durham with a rat problem but its finding them.then theres the issue of weather a farmer wants a total stranger on his land. its not easy but good luck. have you tried allotments, myself and reed off here have had a few mornings digging rats out of manure heaps in the past.
  3. in the past ive had a few terriers and lurchers.its no problem taking them all out together for exercise.it was finding enough work for them that was my problem.
  4. ive asked on every pigfarm ive heard of in durham.they either dont let anyone on or poison heavily. like keeps i have to travel to get rats and rabbits. i went to three farms last night that a mate has permission on and didnt see a rat.these days it seems like you need to know keepers to get into the pens after the shooting season.even then thats seasonal so it dosent really help anyone who wants to go ratting several times a week all year with terriers. good luck anyway mate,if you find a place and you need a hand i have an underworked terrier that would appreciate a look out.
  5. heres a few pics of my working dogs and my two pups which hopefully will be my next set of workers.
  6. thanks for that longslip,i remember that day. any pics of them stevolad.
  7. i think nose and stamina are more important than speed but im looking forward to seeing how the pup goes when he is older.
  8. the choc/red and white bitch is a 3/4 pointer cross. i am mr wright i hope im always honest about my dog,my main sport is hunting up moorland and its surrounding reeds/rough heather and ratting. i go ferreting and lamping but my dog dosent do very well at it.she hasnt the patience for ferreting or the speed for lamping.still you have to use the dog you have so she does her best. i like the gwp cross,if you think about it all i want is a dog which hunts the same terrain as a pure gwp but with that bit extra speed to catch what it flushes.i have a five month old half cross pup here
  9. if you mean fox mine did a few pre ban but not regular enough to know if she would have made a good fox dog.
  10. if i remember right she is 5/8 pointer/grey.
  11. through this forum i was lucky enough to meet up with someone who also works pointer cross lurchers.ive had a great season working my lurcher to rabbits and rats. i dont take many photos but heres a few. id just like to say thanks to this lad for inviting me out onto his permission.hopefully i can repay the favour next season.
  12. back out yesterday afternoon. not as many as last week but just as enjoyable. i spent most of the weekend with the lurcher hunting the reeds.
  13. i owned the dam a plummer bitch which tracked a fox from a bankside across a field and into a drain where she died.ive never got over the loss of my best terrier she died in the february and her daughter,a plummer terrier, was lost after an encounter to ground in the august.to lose two plummer bitches that you could actually have a dig to now and then in a year pretty much finished our plummer owning days. i lined my bitch with a working nuttall terrier and produced the terriers above.the red dog did half a season in wales as a youngster but was rough with foxes and he was retired two
  14. alright mate, about time you got a lurcher. ive never taken rats in number regularly...............people that do are lucky feckers.
  15. sorry mate i missed your earlier post.i bred them.
