  1. Use an airgun to start off with, while you''re in your garden, it's familiar surroundings for her. Put a bowl of food down while the airguns going off. She'll soon ignore it. IMO> Softly, softly, catchee monkey.....
  2. From 2007 or 2008 I think......they are naturally nervy birds, very hard to get real steady and can only be sexed accurately by observation, both sexes looking very similar....
  3. Couple more, couldn't add them all in one post...
  4. Woke up at 5.30, looked out of the window and outside looked dull, cold, rainy and just downright horrible. Another half hour of snoozing and I had another look and this time things had brightened up some what, so it was out in the woods for me and my pooch. as before, there was plenty of pigeons about but they were mostly hard due to the very steep upward trajectory of the shot and the zillion small branches that my lead pellet had to be weaved through. I've taken a couple of pics and circles the pigeons in red so you can see what I mean. I spotted a woodie on the nest, the pic isn't too goo
  5. To start with, they're real nervous birds. they're not like your average hardbill, it takes a special sort of 'hammer to 'relax' in human company. They go down much later than the rest of the birds and with the guys I've spoken to, they all seem to think that they are not an easy bird to breed....I got lucky I guess...
  6. His wife......... These are a bit of a challenge to breed...
  7. This is the male I used to own, here he is getting busy building a nest. Just an old pic I found that some might enjoy. Old scribbley Jack!
  8. Well I stand corrected. It's not the first time I've been wrong, and it sure as hell won't be the last.... I thought BP vests and body (stab) armour were different though...
  9. That clip is of a 'blunt', well, almost a blunt, fired from a longbow of low poundage. If it had have been a broadhead from a compound it would have gone straight through.....IMO.
  10. Two completely different projectiles. A broadhead has far more penetration power per ft/lb than a bullet. They kill by two different methods. If i had to guess I would say that a broadhead clad arrow would zip through one side of a vest, through the person wearing it, and out of the other side....
  11. best sand i found was 'playpit' sand....a bit finer than builders sand and the birds love it.
  12. Well, I've got no time for jackers.....but, how do you know if the dog's a jacker or not unless you give it as much work as possible? I personally expect a dog to be as keen as what I am. No excuses. It all depends on the owners perspective I guess...... And, really, what does it all matter anyway?
  13. Final bag....back home now for toast and marmalade..
  14. Spring's in the air and it's a great time to be up early and out. I woke at 5.30, a quick brew then, after defosting the car!, headed to my favourite wood. The sun was rising, the wood was filled with bird song and it was amazing. I had the trusty old Falcon and although i did miss a few shots I managed five woodies and a squirrel. I don't know how others have found things but there appears to be hardly any squirrels left around here. I spotted it high on the edge of an oak branch eating the buds, but if I'd have shot the squirrel there it would have fallen over the railings where i can't go,

Have you any idea who the father is?
  22. Here's a little story for you: I've been fly fishing for over thirty years and after all that time sometimes you still get stumped by the trout. My mate had invited me up onto his local upland reservoir, telling me he was going to show me how to fish etc etc. You've heard it all before. I'd not been on this water before and we arrived to find a lovely sunny day with just a murmer of ripple, perfect for the dry fly. So we each spreads out and starts fishing, and I'm getting whooped, but the day's a nice one and it isn't so bad. Trout are rising here and there and I manage to winkle a couple o
