  1. This one didn't mind the stainless...... :whistling:
  2. Victors in wooden boxes have accounted for a hell of alot for me..... the lid has been removed for the photo...
  3. I've had a few thrown clear, and I don't trap 'that' many rats with Fenns when compared to some I bet. Obviously this speaks volumes about my trapping skills....lol.
  4. Be aware mate that if the tunnel isn't snug the rat may be thrown clear of the jaws. You could always put a few shovelfuls of soil down, leave it a few days and set the Fenn in that. Personally I'd just get a Victor rat trap or a Snap E, put it in a little wooden box with peanut butter on the plate.
  5. Put your markers in a few yards away from your traps, and make a hill over the traps. They won't be found .
  6. They wouldn't pull the traps with their hands I wouldn't think....they would use a tool of some sort for locating them quickly in the dark, probing until the metal of the trap was felt and then whip it out.If the trap is far enough away from the marker then it would be pretty safe...IMO
  7. Be careful marking traps..... when on places of high public footfall, I know if i put a little flag in the ground then i'd be losing a hell of alot of traps. You have to mark covertly. One way is to flatten a molehill on each side of the trap, i also often mount a molehill up on top of the trap just so it looks like a regular hill. if you must use markers then don't have the markers near your traps, have them away from the trap, just as a guide. Most trap thefts will happen in the darkness so the thief will go to the markers and only look there, they won't find a hidden trap in the darkness...
  8. That swan's not bad...for you.... :tongue2:
  9. Great little film........really enjoyed it, just wish it was longer......that rabbit looked a bit floppy though....
  10. No,I just gave him the whistle to stop him in his tracks buddy..hes as broke in with them as he is livestock. Aye. he's definately broke to them...i bet all he wants to lick their ears.....
  11. Yes mate, every book ever written is better than mine. You are totally correct. Now... All rounders?
  12. Yes, I think we've come to that conclusion buddy; I'm shit, my dogs are shit and my books are shit too..... Now we've got that out of the way, can we get back on the subject?
  13. What do you mean not got time for the dogs? I'm out every day, i don't think i can do more than that fella. But, yes, thanks for the support, I will continue to write them....
  14. I'd agree with that JD, though for me the bottom line has to be 'able to catch all quarry whenever required'. Thats exactly the way I look at it Bosun Totally, I was just taking it as read that if the dog can do everything in the daytime, then he sure as hell can at night too....
  15. have you ever owned a dog that can do all the above ?.....and if so what was all the quarry you wished it to do ? All pre ban of course Yes mate, Scooby had the lot, except red deer. Both day and night. I don't really bother with foxes (never needed to) so my opinion of an all-rounder would be very different to the next man's I guess. The lurcher i have now i would class as an all-rounder too, but there's a few i need to tick off the list before he gets there fully, though he has caught a wide variety of tackle, and travelled extensively all over the Uk and Ireland and onto some Islands too
  16. so the man that can only lamp can not have an alrounder I wonder why you would say something like that.stop trying to please everyone jd you lamped plenty and it never hurt the sale of your book scooby.some of us are onto you........your a fake. Woah!!..I've lamped a ton, and still do buddy. I was only voicing an opinion, I wonder why my books get mentioned all the time i say something? Scooby caught everything in the daytime, except red deer.I have lamped everything i would ever need to lamp, but its daytime whee it matters, thats just my opinion. Like I've said before, at night, when
  17. Above everything else.......without the right man on the other end of the lead the lurcher will never become a true all-rounder.... putting a variety of game, and lots of it, in front of the dogs nose is the first step...it's not going to catch much sat in the kennel... When you're in your twenties and mad-keen it still takes some doing, but when you get older it sure does get harder...
  18. Just to add another dimension.....I, personally, would only class a dog as an allrounder if it could catch all the quarry I want during the daytime. I have seen plenty of dogs that looked good on the lamp and yet were too slow for daytime work. Anyone got any thoughts on that? JD
  19. Very nice looking dogs, in great condition....
  20. So you haven't tried the knuckle test at 8am on a really cold morning TOO many times.... :D
  21. Is it harder to tune the wire on these, then ? No, what i mean is, IF the springs are more powerful then , it is my belief, that the trap must be set finer for Mr Mole to trigger it with as least resistance as possible,...but i could be wrong, I usually am ha ha
  22. Just wondering, and I know it might sound like a daft question, butnare you sure the smell is dead rodents and not years of rat toilets? I have trapped lofts that smell to high heaven and it is the rats piss as i don't put bait in those lofts, trap and remove instead....just a thought?
  23. IMO they need tuning finer than the standard trap as the springs are more powerful..or should i say the springs 'feel' more powerful to me, but it might just be in my head! ha.IMO
  24. Get it on a tripod with a low shutter speed..
  25. I don't use it myself, I give the wound a cleanse with Chlorhexadine then treat with 'cut and heal' liquid.. IMO better than the purple spray.
