my cattie is from an old oak tree and latex rubber. had rabbits, pheasants and ducks with it. top class, but you need to get close. tried the black widow and diablo but not accurate enough IMHO. once head shot a pheasie in front of about 6 lads at night with a cattie about 12 years ago. good weapon
  2. Well, its each to their own but im not one for penny pinching . In the ast 12 -14 months while mattulkoh has been searching for the cheapest , many other people have been having 100's of digs to their B+_F. If it wasnt for the guy who sourced and marketed the B+F then we would have still had the deben shite that was unreliable and i found broke easily. we have had as many as 3 collars die on us in a day, even when fully taped up. i was spending at least £100 on collars every year as the flimsy collars gave up the ghost. When a dog was in a boig place you were walking around sweeping here and
  3. messer..i photograph them every year i will give you a few tips on what signs to look out for next year. The piccy i would really like is one of all the young birds fledging at the same time. But i bet it wouldnt be easy!
  4. They are one of my favourite birds, creeping about all over the place. They spiral up a tree before flying to the bottom of the next tree and starting all over again. Watched them nesting on a few occasions and i find that they like loose bark rather than nest boxes. The boxes only get used if a more suitable place cannot be found. They roost behind loose flaps of bark too. spent many hours watching these birds and hope to photograph some this spring.
  5. Pre-Ban Most lurchers would hold the smaller types. But i have always showed a preference for the heavier ,muscular lurchers. I dont have a running dog at the mo, but when i get another pup i hope to get one that is big, fast and quite strong. Purely for the reason that i like big dogs....... :thumbs-up:
  6. I think a true hunter respects his quarry, its environment and likes to be knowledgable about its habits. We go hunting for the hunt, and the kill is immaterial (IMHO). i have let go many hundreds of foxes in years gone bye, there for another day and even the odd deer here and there too . The true hunter loves the countryside, the animals that live there and the varied seasonal changes. Good hunting to all in the new year. JD
  7. The rift has been caused alot by theiving b*****ds using running dogs as an excuse to get out and about round farms at night to see what they can steal.... understandably the farmers tar us all with the same brush.......
  8. My good mate is after another brace of albino's. Shame you weren't closer...
  9. I would say about 10-11 months....but.. they will muscle out for the next full season really.
  10. lol... im not surprised.....with his bad eyesight..lol... though im surprised he didnt smell it with that enormous hooter of his.... i hear he had a little kip in the woods one day and had a family of foxes take refuge up his nose...they thought it was an artificial earth!!!!!!!
  11. looks like it could be a spicer....
  12. I always like to get my pups out with the ferret and nets from an early age. I think it halps in later stages of training to have a dog "used" to rabbits, nets and ferrets. If longnetting in the daytime i like to have my pup jumping the long net from, say, the age of six months old and i also do a few retreives over the long net too. I beleive it makes a dog "think" rather than just "do". Wont be long til i get my pup and i cannot wait to get into his little brain for some training.... great pics socks
  13. good post and great pics...
  14. excellent mate.....great to see someone having a bit of success with training their dog. good on ya
  15. No good... theres no worse feeling than driving 150 miles to see the road ahead covered in fog and the beam just bouncing right back at you. some nights i could have cried, until i started to check the weather earlier in the day.!!

  17. My arms still aching. Terrier was Ok except a bit stiff. I wish i could have got a better piccy, but my lense wouldnt go wide enough to get it all in. There was no sign of anything in front of the dog. he was just stuck tight. If we hadnt have had the B+F i bet we wouldnt have found the dog.
  18. Brilliant. I dare saw those beavers would be more than a match for most dogs. great pics mate...please keep em coming
  19. Had to rescue a young terrier of my mates the other day. was 17 foot and took us 7 hours of constant digging. Dog went in at half one and we got through to it at half eight. The dog was wedged in tight and couldnt move. A successful resuce and words cannot describe how tough a dig this was for just the two of us. It was a nightmare in the total darkness... the dog was glad to see us...lol We shovelled back , then threw onto a ledge then down the bank
  20. very nice looking dogs. that fox looks like its coming out of plastic?....is it an artificial made from the plastic or a land drain,. good hunting JD
