Ive gone past stage 5....ready to start all over again now.lo
  5. w will have to have a walk in the woods over summer.....just to train the pup mind.....
  6. We showed the black and white nightmare a ferret last week and its fair to say he was rather cautious with it. Still, i guess this is a good thing. had a walk this morning with the little chap and we headed to a place under some chestnut trees that i knew a roe or two would be knocking about. its not easy to approach deer unseen with a partly white pup gimping about all over the place, but luckily i spotted a fine buck from 200 yards away and had a close look with the scope. it was the same one i saw previous and once he is clean and in season he is going to get it. a fine 6 point head.

  10. some terriers try their best not to find..... they cant all make it. its a real bummer, but it happens..... sorry to hear it mate, . personaly i would give it until the end of the season and hope it clicks. can you not get it one in an artificial then it cannot not find .
  11. IMHO you are asking too much from an 18 month old pup. personally i would not show him another until next cubbing time or else he will probably spew it all together.
  12. really sorry to hear it Vim, after all the obsticles he was making a good little dog. Hope you have better luck with the next one. i will ring you tomorrow.
  13. nice looking dog LB. he does loom like a deerhound/grey except for the coat. all the other first crosses i have seen have been broken coated. BUT, perhaps he has a little something else in him too......a nice looking dog
  14. I was invited out with my mate today who is a stalker. little Col accompanied us and he was a joy to watch in the proper countryside, pretty much for the first time. I approached a nice lump of gorse and threw a few stones in, but all that flushed was a smart fox, i left her and carried on. Right ayt the furthest edge of the permission i spotted a roe sat down some yards away under a low hawthorn bush. I love spotting the deer as they bed as its much harder than simply wandering aimlessly along. I was up on my stick and wondered if the little 13 week old pup would be frightened by the .24
  15. No, i was having to get up at 4 am to shut the little howling bas**rd up...and 3am and 2 am and 1 am... he wont go near a live rabbit until he is retreiving well.....im not one for rushing them....they got the rest of their loves to be "great" ROXY: yes there will probably be the odd book here and there ..details later in the year
  16. GET TOTAL CONTROL OVER THE DOG BEFORE IT GOES ANYWHERE NEAR SCENTS. ...MAYBE THATS THE ANSWER?
  17. Little freisian Col is now 12 1/2 weeks old and he went out today for the very first time. He was pretty good on the lead seeing as though he has never been on one before and it took only a little encouragment to get him to walk, though it was rather slow. but still, a great deal better than other dogs i have owned. He is very keen on playing with both tennis ball and rabbit skin dummy and he carrys both all over.........just perfect for what i want.....things are going well and he is not as noisy at night now either,...thank god!!! ccc ccc ccc
  18. Hows about... "OK Fellman,.. If it hurts tell me...i won't stop but tell me..."
  19. For many years i was "pike mad" and fished one particular water extensively that held a large population of small fish. I night fished a goog few times with my mate, and we each had 2 rods out, but in all those times i only got one fish and that was a small one. I did notice a peak in the takes in the evening though?...
  20. cheeky Though i do admit i have to wear V neck sweaters....
  21. LB, what im saying is that at this time of year theres not alot of food out there, so he is obviously getting it from the same place......?? maybe???? Dont you think it would be worth while trying to "feed" him into a barn/outbuilding/shed and then letting the dog trip his own trap...so to speak?... or is it not as simple as that. ? the places he may be feeding may not be anywhere near the places he is seen in the daytime?....goodluck with him... this one sounds like a proper challenge... if theres anythign i can do...just let me know...
  22. having read both threads its amazing what a survivor this canine is. personally i would be trying to feed the dog in an area that he could be caught in. Is there a barn or anything nearby? I am sure he would be able to smell a cooked chicken from a mile away so could he not be fed into a barn, or at least closer to a barn day by day, THEN rig the door so it slams shut when the dog stops on a plate or pulls a baited line. It seems to me that this could be the only way you are ever going to get near him. I wish i livesd closer cos i would certainly join up the chase. Does he not have anythin
