  1. does your mate work this dog, if he does how does he find it, speaking from my own experience of working these dogs, they take to lamping like ducks to water, only takes a few trips out, and you can work them without a slip lead, good to retrieve, and easy to get on with, only catch edibles with mine, not fussed about using them on much else, both the 7th and10th generation were hellers on feral cats, always sensed they were about when out working them, not hard in the mouth on rabbits, but could dish it out if needed, always good to let you know if some one was about that shouldnt have been.

  5. just sitting round thinking, about all the dogs that have been stolen off late, this may be a wild idea ive got, but in this day of modern technology, could not a tracking micro chip be inseted into dogs to track them on your phone, the same sort of thing that you can track your vehicle when stolen, falconers use telemetry on their birds to locate them, lots of you boys use gps tracking collars on dogs, surely if somebody came up with a chipping device, it would make life easier for folk, trying to locate their dogs, im sure it would be a real money spinner for the company that patented it, or
  6. damn good hammering, cut the hands of the bstards, so that they couldnt steal any thing again, like the lads say look close to home, if yuo had any litters lately, cast your mind back to the time wasters, that maybe seen your set up, really feel for you mate, somebody some where knows something, just bide your time, hope you get them all back safe and sound..
  7. aye, george kelly, another name from the past, always used to have litters of thiis type advertised in back pages of old shooting news, lived round brown hills staffordshire way, used to have a bitch called mo, heard lots of tales about him and the dogs, lots of blokes used to reckon he would buy similiar, bred pups in, and sell trhem as his own, but at the end of the day, another likeable rogue, just like ginger french, lurcher world these days, sadly missing characters like them.

  12. i was looking for a genuine deerx grey last year, when i lost one of mine to bloat, was in touch with a lad in northumberland, same bloke that bred chartpolski bitch, unfortuanetly due to certain circumstances failed to get a pup from him, maybe worth giving gin on here a shout, very helpful lad, ended up getting a nice 11th gen bred pup from dave, great condition and healthy, always found dave, adecent bloke, speak of folk as i find them, dont know if alan charles, from soutern ireland still breeds deerxgreys, heard good reports, but never seen any of his stuff in the flesh, sadly a breed now

  14. like the old saying as long as you got a lurcher built for speed and you know your field craft, you will not starve, lots of folk going to find surving hard this winter, buta lot of us hunting lads, are born survivors.
  15. remember many a time, when i was growing up in very poor conditions, in real poverty,we always relied on our lurchers and ferrets to feed usand close family, always told never to come off the land emty handed, whether it was rabbits, hares, game birds, timber , black berries, or field mushrooms, it was taken and used , just to survive, all our cooking was done on a fire, and water from a well, always remember christmas, when we used to get a few rabbits for dinner, lurchers would snaffle a farmers goose or chicken, and we come off the land with spuds and all the veg that grew in the fields r
  16. \your a man after my own heart pesky, experienced the same situations many times over the years, allways used to keep my head down and avoid the dangerous ones as much as possible, knew the right creeps to tell if you wanted something to get back to the bosses, caught lots out like that, never understood what they got out of getting ordinary working class men the sack through their sleazy under handed ways.
  17. worked with lots of arsehole creepers, and plenty that would daub you in at the drop of hat, shit on you , and walk all over to get to the top, get them in most places where a lot of people work together, used to take them to one side and have a quiet word , when no one was about, some of them had good names on them there was whispering green grass, toe nails cause that was all you could see as he was that far up the bosses arse, another was sweet lips after a jim reeves song, cause this arehole was always on the phone grassing somebody up,as ialways used to say if i couldnt hold my job thr

  20. Still miss the magazine, every month, thought somebody like dave sleight or darcy, might have kept up writing in a smaller style mag, over the yearsthere were some very talented lads contributing articles to it,any body know how dave harcombe, is fairing up health wise, like him or loathe him,the man did a damn good job of producin g that mag every month for years, i know were well governed on what we canwrite about on field sports these days, but we have all got to tread carefully to preserve whats left of the sport we love, take care lads and try to keep one step ahead.
  21. spotted a pembrokeshire corgi the other day, havent seen one in years, mate of mine an irish lad, i used to work with on the roads had one, a real bad tempered little sod, but what a great guard dog he was,we used to take him ferreting and he was some dog for hunting and marking holes, only little legs but strong as an ox, maybe there are still a good few about, but i have my doubts, think they used them for herding cattle years ago in wales, the fella who had it was amazed that i knew a bit about them.
  22. well said phil, never a truer word spoken, some damn good threads on this forum , completely wrecked by childish crap, over the last few yrs noticed a lot of good knowlegable lads dropping out of the forum and not bothering to post anything, the writing is definetly on the wall for this forum, and yes iwill expect the narrow minded comments in response to this post.
  23. i khow exactly where your coming from dinosaurs, and i wish you all the luck in the world for your future yrs on earth,i had a touch of cancer a few yrs ago, and if it wouldnt have been for the dogs, great family and mates, iwould have sat in a chair and give up, gradually im getting back to a fair level of fitness, luckily there are a few rabbits starting to show themselves again,so hopefully there will be something to get pup started on when its ready, might even consider getting another ferret, keep going is my motto, use it or lose it,take care mate, genuine dog men are a dying breed, best day
  24. dont give up completely on the dogs mate, from the posts ive read off yours you come over as a genuine lurcherman of the old school, my old deerxgreyhond is now 11yrs old, and im in my late 60s, but just got myself a nice young 4mth old pup, just to keep me active and keep my mind active,i know dogs take lots of time and dedication to get them right, only time i will cease having dogs is when icant walk anymore or die, would you not considedr a whippet or something later in life, never say never, lifes for living.
  25. are you for real fellah, only thing id be given your patterdale for rat urine is a jab for lepto, obviously you have never seen a dog infected with this disease carried by rats in their piss, nearly lost an adult lurcher to it, a while back, lucky he survived, always get my dogs innoculated against now, cheaper than losing a dog and a wedge of dollar on vets fees.
