  1. Thanks for the comments so far. Mr L, not using a 527 action on the Hornet, so should be ok! If all goes to plan, I will be using a Anschutz Action. Its currently not a bad shooter, managed just over a half inch group with it in the 2 foot of snow, blizzard conditions, and blowing a houlie... So it may be staying as standard for a bit!!
  2. Hi, looking to invest in some new glass for a varmint rifle I am building. Thinking along the lines of Nikon Monach 3 in 5-20, or 4-16, 50mm obj. So, anybody have anything like it? First hand experiences only please!! How do theses compare to similar priced Leupolds?? And no, I cant go in to my local gunshop and have a look....cause no one in the areas sell anything remotely similar...............but............"they can order me one" Matty
  3. I got feck all you lucky boys .. Actually thats not true, my boys bought me a bottle of Grouse......now deceased.. And me mam gave me cash towards my next scope
  4. If you are 50-100m then you should be able to deal with the .22lr after practice, particularly off a bipod! CCI's new Copper coated fragmenting sub is meant to dramatically reduce ricochets. This is an issue, but personally I consider it one that should not be a problem if you take appropriate care, in addition it has not stopped the .22lr being the most popular civil calibre in the world!! Also very quiet in sub form and the cheapest ammunition you can buy! If you are 50-100m or more, then perhaps the HMR should be considered. It is much noisier, even with a mod, and the ammo is much mo
  5. Just in the process of buying a Hornet for exactly the same reasons as above.... I'm mothballing the .243 for the time being.
  6. Which bit of the country are ya? There was talk of a new club up my way! Matty
  7. No, it will taste just the same. It does not change at all, as long as it remained sealed. If it is open, it may change a little, but whether it were better or worse would be questionable.
  8. Not if it is kept in the bottle, Whisky only matures in the barrel. But the longer it is left in the barrel before bottling, the better it should taste!
  9. All were taken with my .243 at 30 yards, using .87gr BTHP hornadys over 36 gr N140. All clean kills! Think I'll be spending Boxing day in the larder!!
  10. I have a feeling you may be on to something with a certain Blairgowrie based shop.. , But the owner himself has always been polite and helpful.
  11. feck all, from the family, but treated my self to a New (to me) Hornet, hope to pick that up soon...Then will get a scope in the sales, maybe look to customise it in due course! Just selling a shottie, so have some cash to play with.. May sell the .243 and get a new one as well, anyone want a Sauer??? Change is as good a rest!!
  12. I didn't write this question in Sorry, miss read it...... Speed reading can have its disadvantages!!
  13. When I am fortunate and lucky enough to be invited to shoot someone's birds............I respect their wishes and the general ethos surrounding their shoot. Quite frankly if I was invited on the condition I wore a pink bow tie and yellow breeks...........I would oblige!! hope that helps Why don't you like his answer, you asked for his opinion, unfortunately if differs from what you wanted to hear??? Seems you didn't want his opinion after all!!
  14. Surprised that People are finding Cluny cheap for ammo??? Robin has let people I know down in the past with second hand equipment....denial of responsibility for the working nature of goods. But after severe pressure, he backed down. Dick Hardy in Forfar has always been reasonable for ammo..I alway buy from him if I can. I have had a rifle from him, and wasn't ripped off in the slightest. Gows in Dundee.............. will not deal, only sell to make a profit, list price....is the price...etc...etc. Offered to buy four guns from him in the last eight years..never once offered a deal. Croc
  15. The gun is still for sale at £825. All pm's replied too!!
  16. I've found a rifle I want, so if anyone wants to match the trade in price, Ive been offered, you can have the deal of the centuary.... Bear in mind the list price of these now is £1600.... Best Ive seen offered is £1450. Dealer said he is putting it on the shelf at £1000. PM for a deal!!
  17. If it's swollen lymph nodes in the Jaw, check for broken teeth as well. Sometimes that can cause them to puff up.
  18. yep, its the f2.8 EX, the professional variant.
  19. As allowed under selling rules, I have just placed a for sale ad in the correct section for a 105mm EOS digital compatible macro lens. Thanks for looking Matty
  20. I am selling my Sigma Eos digital compatible 105mm macro lens. It has been sparsely used, because I bought a zoom with macro facility. It works fine with my 10D and it is virtually mint condition. Great for nature, or portrait photography. I will sell for £180 posted on receipt of cleared funds, preferably cash!! Plenty on here will vouch for my credibility, it is a risk free transaction, guaranteed!! Matty
  21. Was out lasting night for large dog fox I've been seeing. Some of the local 'guesters' have given him a hard time with the lamp I fear... Had in the crosshairs for a split second last night.........then legged it...My bad. I give him till hogmanay.........and I'll have his tail... Saw a few the other night, 6-7, but only had the rimmy, I could of taken them, but didnt, I tend not too. Took the .243 back, have seen maximum of one a night!! Good shooting.
  22. Seems a bit harsh. If it is refused, give BASC a ring, infact ring them anyway, explain it to them and get their advice. It will be factual, as long as you are honest with them.
  23. i was thinking a .38 wadcutter on the right.
