  1. Firstly, for those that dont know my modus operandi, I only ferret on land that is heavily shot, for fun, and enjoyment. They are a clean up tool when conditions permit. So, I had arranged a day out today, my first outing this year....and Bess's first outing ever.... (other than in our own woods, where she bought be a bunny back at my last barbeque..much to the disgust of my guests ). We met at my house at about 1.30pm and travelled to Perth in the landy, where we had arranged to meet another mate of mine, who likes the odd day out.. We picked him up en route, and set up in the
  2. My advice is to find somebody local to take you out and show the ropes, its much better to share a day out with someone, that can help and encourage you. It will prevent long term problems occurring due to lack of experience.. I am sure if you ask nicely on here, someone local to you would take you out.
  3. I only go head shots, and have a .22lr calibrated scope (Hawke SR reticle) it is calibrated out to about 130 yards on a 60 yard zero.) I draw the line at 100-110 yards..More in perfect conditions is possible, I use self restraint...the squidgy organic bit, behind the trigger being the biggest stumbling block.. I shoot to sell, so anything else is waste or ferret food in my opinion...
  4. An unmoderated .308 isnt that bad??? As allready said, you loose sight picture, but you do with a .243 or a .223, so its no worse on that count. IMO... I would moderate it...Yes...but don't feel a .308 is a particularly vicious round. My opinion is that the scope , whilst not the best quality optics, would retain the zero in that situation. I have had Nikko scope on my centre fires for years , and have had no problems with zero shift

  6. We've been expecting you Mr 'Hunter'

    New laptop?? lol

  7. This is what I would do............... Check the legality of the shooting situation, I.E distance from highway etc. Then ring the police on the day of the intended shoot and register it with them as a vermin control session on behalf of Farmer X at 'Y' address... Then when he is challenged, get them to radio it in to the control room!! They will look pretty silly, plus he will have a record of authenticity .. Matty
  8. this is what i do for my cocker, he use to suffer with scurvy but now his coat it like gloss plus its the fish oils for the brain. half a tin a day mixed with his kibbles. lidl 36p a tin. only down side is the misses keeps cutting her hands on th etins but she'll get use to it one day.lol ATB Phil Asda has them for 0.24p...........not that I am skin flint Its the only reason I'd go in the poxy shop..........robbing gits!
  9. My own opinion is that if you are feeding a correct balanced diet, and the dog is wormed properly, you should need a supplement. Is the worming up to date? Feed the dog oily fish as part of its food, such as tinned sardines..
  10. That's just plain shit!! A wasted young life.
  11. Minced rabbit is a good place to start. I mince and freeze for a couple of weeks...they love it. I mix this with other sourced mince...frozen...from the likes of Redcastles..who happen to be my neighbour.
