  1. It varied a bit mate ,some were plump whilst others you could shave with .
  2. Stood on the edge of a wood for a while yesterday afternoon and found myself on a flight line albiet a slow one .The birds came over in large flocks which you pigeon shooters will agree is not good for a decent bag .Set a few shot birds out in front on some rape ,more as a target for crossing birds than a landing spot .Managed a round ten before the light went and as i went out to pick up the deeks,i saw the back of charlie coming around a corner about 50 yds away and below a plough line so he couldnt see me .This farm is next door to a chicken farm so i had no qualms about shooting it shou
  3. Personally,i'm in full agreement with the new laws and seasons .Too many deer for the good of the national herd and the smaller species can now be shot with a .22 centrefire ,well .222 and up.Shot roe with the .222 and no excesive damage ?
  4. This white stuff is becoming a pain in the arse for stalking on foot .Had two stalks foiled this morning by vigilante does. Well done on your outing mate.
  5. Seriously dont know what to say .Fuckers answering phone calls now by the way ,second mobile in the link .Talk quick as he hangs up after a few seconds. Wonder if the two guests veiwing this are rag heads?
  6. Been wondering about this VHD myself as weve seen no rabbits with mixy at all .
  7. The gamekeeping world is evolving mate ,I will stick my neck on the line here and say that not many positions these days are sole keeper duties only .There are some obviously but my advice to anyone starting out would be to get as wide a range of countryside skills on your cv as possible and if that means certificates then so be it .Dont look at the job in the short term ,experiece yes but not at the expense of no qualifications .A school leaver these days who is not from a keepering background, needs every means at his disposal to secure a job in this line of work .Good luck young man .
  8. From what ive seen ,the deben is fine for leading you to the area but its the fine tuning that needs to be mastered as you can be way off .Same as any system ,practice Swore by deben for years until a major let down .All i will say is that weve had a few collars go quiet in use .Not what you want and down to bad battery connections .The bellman is ,in my opinion the way forward and is the best on the market that i know of not having used the ortovox mind .
  9. If you ever get your collar felt ,you had better decide what you were digging in ,earth or sette .Thats when the difference becomes huge .From experience .
  10. You need to delete the lower case for pics to appear on this board mate
  11. no i no what i seen i go shooting every week and can tell but all i no when i do is the woodcock are most in the woods like the reat of the birds the snipe are on the wet land were i go so in flight they look the same Well it is most unusual, i have never seen or heard of a flock of either woodcock or snipe..... You want to get out more Darcy ,snipe feed in open fields in flocks,or many individuals, sometimes along ditches too and lift as one when disturbed .Going away the snipe will jink for a few times then stright line, climbing very high very fast whereas the flight of a 'co
  12. I know nothing about goshawks as we have none but that pic is the very essence of a female sparrowhawk .They too like to ride thermals and spend a lot of time gliding to gain the height ,just for the hell of it .
  13. Good result mate and as said good to see a .22 centrefire used for what it was designed for {joking of course but than enough gun ]
  14. Personally ,i would have been embarassed to have to dig that last two foot to prove what i knew already .Cant be the first time hes killed underground surely .Seen it too many times to get in a strop about it .Dog comes away with a mouthful of charlie fur and refuses to re-enter .To the 10 minute crew ,lol, this could be seen as jacking but it would be they who dug the last bit to disprove it .Knowing your individual terriers working style is as big a part of terrier work as the breeding.Do you want to perpetuate it ?I wouldnt use a killer in a deep spot personally but thats just me. Once w
  15. quote" Probably get shit for this of know it alls but still I'll tell you any way. A couple of years ago a keeper friend of mine rang and told me a story about losing his two terriers to ground, nothing unusual for keepers your all thinking, but its how he lost them that's important. He had dug his old terrier out to a fox a few foot deep and dispatched the fox with his shotgun, he then let's his terrier in to retrieve the body and get his reward, he also let in a unentered pup to have a look and bingo the pup's pulling away at Charlie to. Now this is where it starts to go tit's up wards, he

  20. Had a mate ring me to say that charlie was klling a bit round a pen they have and could i check the earths locally .Well the only place worth doing is an old sette and i mean old ,no sign of its previous occupants at all.Stinking of fox and a nice amount of padding too.Netted what we could and stopped the rest.Entered dog,a rough coated black bitch of 5 years old and a bitch i like to dig to. Stood back and listened .It was a good while before the baying started up as it covered roughly 50 square feet and a mark of 1.1 was got, away from trees ,ideal .There was a entrance just in front the di
  21. Im in no position to comment on copyright and the legal side but unless a pic is marked as copyright then you pros are open to the worst .Use a bit of the old grey matter and stop whinging .Pics + internet +unscrupulous person =stolen pic .Simples really . Edited to say ive just tried to do it and succeded but got no interest in using others work .Im no computer boff by any standards but it really is easy to do .
