  1. 18 to 35 miles a week ....... Hmmm, I think I do more mooching about every day !! LOL !! Cheers.
  2. Hard work, dedication and knowledge... not necesseraly in that order ! LOL ! Cheers.
  3. I think speed IS the only thing you get from track dogs, and if you want more speed in your line, then adding non-ped Whippet or racing Greyhound blood, providing you use the right dog, is just about guaranteed to add speed to a Lurcher line. Cheers.
  4. A TENNER ?? My local vet quotes £40 for boosters !!..... not a chance !! Cheers.
  5. I can't understand all this craic about entrty fee's, to the fair, and to enter your Lurcher or Terrier to the show; I'd of thought it was dead simple.... if you don't like it.... don't go !! If the majority of people didn't go, the fair/show would fold, or reduce their prices !! It's called supply and demand !! Cheers.
  6. The first thing that came into my mind when I saw those pics of the dog was " Wow, that dog looks under wheight !!" I've owned pure Saluki and Saluki hybrids, and I know some are very hard to put, and keep, wheight on, but that dog IS showing a lot of bone ! Cheers.
  7. Bit of a daft question !! I'm from the north of England and have been out working the dogs with lads, (and lasses), from Scotland, the South, Eire, and even people from the Midlands !! LOL !! and there is good and bad from ALL areas ! Cheers.
  8. Confusing now !!! Is Amazing Pharoh the sire, or Royal Jihad ? Scan the pedigee and put it up. Cheers.
  9. Just make sure there is plenty clean, fresh water available. Obviously if it gets more serious than a cough, you need to see a vet; but usualy it will clear up in a week or two, just keep an eye on the dog for more serious symptoms, runny eyes, shivering, hight temp, etc. But for just a cough, don't worry to much... rest and cleanliness should do the trick. Hope it gets well soon. Cheers.
  10. And you'll get a big vet bill for them doing basicaly nothing !! A vet I used to shoot with, and another vet I used before she retired, both told me Kennel Cough just takes time to clear up. Clean your kennels with bleach. Jeyes Fluid, disinfectant; get rid of the bedding and replace with new; keep the dog warm and draught free, and away from other dogs, and a week or two kennel rest will cure it ! Cheers.
  11. The're not waterproof, and like all swanni's wheigh a ton when wet ! For the price you pay in the UK, (£160-£200),you could get a decent waterproof jacket. Cheers.
  12. No one on here can answer that with any certainty, especialy without seing the wound. The best person for advice is the vet who put the stitches in, and will be taking them out. Cheers.
  13. I enquired about a delivery to the North East of England, but never took them up on it.... but they keep sending me a bill for a non-existent delivery ! So I, personaly, wouldn't deal with them ! Cheers.
  14. They were, according to Skycat, a mistake mating; but it'll be interesting to see how they turn out. I think a planned mating, say 1/4 Airedale, 3/4 Greyhound could be very handy dogs ! Cheers.
  15. Nah, it's not Whin !!! His spelling is just as bad; but it's not him ! Just another wind up, using another name........ Cheers.
  16. Are you one of the ones Iamduvern is talking about ? Cheers. That's your second reply, using emoticons only..... that doesn't add much to the thread, doe's it ? Cheers.
  17. Are you one of the ones Iamduvern is talking about ? Cheers.
  18. Why do people post about "road kill", "pre ban", "shot and retreived", etc ??? Why not just do what you do with your dogs, quietly, and not give the anti's more amunition against us ?? Cheers.
  19. Sometimes dog mince from the butcher has a lot of liver in it. That would make the faeces black, especialy in a pup. Cheers.
  20. I attend "Non-Ped Whippet" racng most weekends, and the owners I've talked to either dismiss it out of hand or have more important races going on to get their dogs ready for, i.e. the English Derby, etc. Why would they bother racing their dogs against, what are after all, un-registered Greyhounds, when they have their own competitions ? Cheers.
  21. If your'e prepared to wait a second or two, (a life time when lamping rabbits !!), for them to "warm up", then thats ok, ! Cheers.
  22. Let's be fair here; a Greyhound isn't finished at two year old.... only the useless ones are !! A class Greyhound is only starting at two year old !! If you take a fighter or one that won't chase, at two year old, and start running it as a "lurcher", you may get a season or two of exiting running.... but be prepared for big vet bills and dissapointment !! Cheers.
  23. No spawn in my pond yet, but the frogs are getting active; shouldn't be long now. The trees and hedges are in bud now around here, and the bluetits are in and out of the nest boxes, so I reckon it's spring ! Cheers.
  24. Was out for a wander with the dogs this morning, and the crocus and daffs are all coming out and the birds are pairing up, even though we've had two days of frost !! So spring is here ! This working season has been cut short a bit by the heavy snows we had, and I was getting rabbits carrying young in January, and lets face it, we're seeing leverets virtualy all year round ! We seem to be getting less and less time to work our dogs; so what is the answer ? Start earlier ? Finish later ? Or just accept shorter working seasons ? Fishing starts on Saturday, so I'll have pleanty to do, and I usualy
