  1. An item is worth what the buyer wants to pay for it
  2. I reckon a lot of us change as we become older,...I certainly have.... Its a natural part of advancing into old age, nothing to be ashamed of,.. but,.. it does take some getting used to.. Back in the day, I never used to keep my old dogs,....but now, my mind set has changed and whilst it would perhaps be foolishly andromorphic to think of a canine in quite the same way as a human,.. or some kind of fur baby.......I no longer begrudge them a well deserved retirement....
  3. I would expect a young dog to have all the drive in the world,...if it hasn't, then its not worth a dime,...but, ya got to impress upon a rabbiting dog,...that stupid behaviour,... is simply not acceptable....
  4. When the rabbit is in the net,..it belongs to you, its going nowhere.... Slow everything down,... and ask him to stand back when a Coney is in the meshes,.. his services are not required.. A work dog is an investment, ..so forget messing about with shushis for now,. just spend all Summer educating him to behave in the way you would like him to,... for the rest of his life.... Think about it....
  5. Sensible attitude fellah,...a dog that is inclined to bite folk,... can be a real liability,...it invariably ends in tears.... Personally,...with the dog you have,....I would gear your training regime heavily towards the jolly old Fetch and Carry.... A lurcher such as he, should be more than capable for picking -up and helping out on a game shoot ..
  6. A bit of Beddie goes a long way...
  7. I am a leg man myself,...and the pins on those pups look exceptional...

  11. Well,...I'm of an age when Cancer could strike at any moment,..it might already be creeping through my body Death comes to us all, and unfortunately, when your time is up,... However,...I've learnt to be compasionate as I've aged,.so good luck to anyone who is cruely destined, to fight the good fight....
  12. In my hunting days, I've taken the lives of numerous deer, but interestingly, the larger Fallow Buck and majestic Red Deer Stags never graced my dinner table. Despite my attempts, and the inevitable obligation that comes with hunting, these formidable creatures remained elusive. The truth is, my dogs struggled to contend with them, except for the occasional success, often influenced by a stroke of luck or the hindrance of an obstacle. The hard truth of those times was that these magnificent beings were beyond my dogs' capabilities, and that's the end of the tale. For those who make the co
  13. Lovely wee dog ,...mind you, that big old collar is perhaps a tad overkill....
  14. "There's no business like show business"
  15. That bottom image is of Eddie Jones Three Quarter Grey/Collie...and not sure of the other pics... That was a great day,...Lambourn Lurcher Show....all gone now....
  16. Securing the third position holds its value when we acknowledge that a rosette gains significance through the recognition of the wisdom and experience, of the one presenting it. Without such respect, it becomes nothing more than a meaningless trinket, collecting dust and devoid of true worth.
  17. Absolutely, my friend, you've hit the nail on the head! Back in the vibrant 1980s and 1990s, the lurcher scene was buzzing with excitement. Lurcher Shows were popping up every week, ranging from small gatherings to grand events, all across the UK – it was a thrilling era! Personally, I wasn't a die-hard show enthusiast. The competitive atmosphere and the ultra-enthusiastic crowd weren't exactly my cup of tea. I preferred genuine connections with like-minded individuals rather than diving into the intense world of rosette hunting. Nonetheless, these shows served as excellent hubs for
  18. Salukis (and their hybrid cousins), sure ain't thick,...I've seen some real smart ones.... These ancient hounds just think a tad differently to other canines,...different, but certainly not stupid,. or as many would have us believe,..intractable
  19. Yeah, it comes to us all,..well,..if we make it, and not all of my crew have,..anyway,... best wishes to your dear Mum... All the best ,..OldPhil....
