A line is only worth its name if it used extensively,...poor performers need to be removed and young stock should only be offered to men that can enter them sensibly, and test them to the full over a few seasons,...otherwise, the actual phrase means nothing...? I've bred a few pups, and I could have bred and gifted dozens,.but as a commercial breeder of lurchers once told me, " Phil, you will never make a dog breeder, because you ask too many questions, of a prospective customer"... I rated his remarks as a great compliment....?

Nothing worse than difficult neighbours? We have been lucky here in Hampshire, real nice, sensible folk,..friendly and always willing to help out a hopeless, lost cause such as myself?..whilst keeping out of my face at the same time. I think we all need a bit of privacy and respect from our fellow beings, and it must be bad to be surrounded by folk who have different values to yourself. If I had a to wage a constant war with agressive, untrustworthy folk, I think I would move. All the best for the future, stay safe, Old Phil.?

Just checked the old Fenn ...it has the same Patent Number as quoted...763891 I have to chuckle at Ken's Deputy's responses....his words remind me of Michael Corleone when he said, " I thought I was out of it,..but, it dragged me back in again"... That's old traps for ye...?

Lovely wee tykes,..(amazing price tag) I would have to see the temperament of both parents, before even considering owning such a unique breed... There are some nice ACD x Greyhound lurcher about,...it is so tempting to just go one last round....?

Schoolboy error Brother...? As a dealer in Antique Carpets once told me,...when you see a genuine piece,...keep cool, calm and uninterested..?

Wow, amazing footage ? I wish we had the use of a Drone camera, back in the day,.just imagine what footage there would be now? Personally,..I like to see a hare put 'under pressure' by a single dog,...I like to see plenty of turns and strikes. It was always great craic on the Fens, and those match dogs really are something else,..the best of them are awesome? I've captured hares over lots of different terrains,..but as was mentioned earlier by Socks,..some of the criiters that live on Salisbury Plain are genuine heart breakers...? Nowadays,..I only take a few hares w

Problem with the lurcher game is that whilst it is full of passion and thrills,..it can also bring Heartache and sadness.. I'm sure we have all,..been there...? I've been around hunting dogs all my life and was,.(for a short period in the 1980's),..fairly well known,...but, being in the news is frequently a double-edged sword.. Possibly today it is a profitable thing to be a face and have a profile and a huge following?... However, it can get to be a chore, and in my opinion,..it pays to keep your genuine friends real close to you,...and steer well clear, of anything (or a

?Hey, there are dozens of lads who have walked out with me (some of them are on this site) and I'll put good money on the fact that to a man they will ALL say the same thing..."He is a funny old c**t and he takes offence quickly and is easily hurt"...BUT,..I would be shocked if anyone who has hunted with me would ever call me a liar, or say that I did not know my business..SO,..sad folk who abuse me and choose,.for no logical reason, to bad mouth me? are not a problem? Some guys are born fools,..and they are destined to die fools,..I never wanted to be like that,...I wanted more out of li

Its good to hear some Whippet chat...? These diminutive speedsters were the first dogs that I encountered when we moved from our Holding in rural Wales, to the deep Sarf...? It seemed as though everyone had a whippet or a whippet hybrid...I soon got myself a pair and used them extensively.. We would walk where we liked and hunt what we liked. Pheasants, rabbit, Hares, were the staple quarry and these wonderful little dogs filled the game bag on a daily basis. Nowadays,..life is cool,.I am totally chilled and I have exceptionally modest demands, from a working lurcher.. Howeve

That Cotswold Coursing Club was a tremendous meeting place to see the KC registered whippets in action. AS you say, it was often fast and furious and invariably exciting. Nice bunch of whippet enthusiasts , all mad crazy keen on their choice of running dog. I accompanied the late Ted Walsh , and he was a dyed in the wool whippet fan.. The one thing I always noticed with the Whippet Coursing clique was that they nearly always had the best running grounds, choc-full of hares.. I'll never forget watching those diminutive speedsters waiting in the slips , often behind a dry

Geoff was a real nice guy...we named him, King of the Speedsters...? I once had the honour to Judge, a real prestigious and amazingly well attended Lurcher show... At the time I had never met Geoff, and to be honest, I did not really take much notice of the guy... Facts were, my eyes were drawn to a really nicely made, silver Brindle bitch... She was built like a pit bull , but still racy as feck, and truly handsome...? There was a hell of a lot of cracking looking dogs on display that day,.but when I handled his bitch, Sally,..I could feel her energy, power and shee

Well, you can never say never Brother...? Realistically,.I've had my days in the Sun,..I've done my bit,...my life with lurchers is all but over... But,..in saying that,..who really knows what the future holds for us all, eh...? -

Hi , Loton Moocher..? No, Supreme Racing Champion, Country Music was already, done and dusted many years previous to Moon's day... Her sire was a wee Red dog called Mobek,.I wanted to use his Sire, a strong, determined dog name of Mo-Evil.. Unfortunately, he was totally unavailable, being a bit on the dead side...? Go careful now, all the best, OldPhil.? -

Not daft at all Allan...? A lot of whippet lines seem to throw up the 'prick eared' trait.... Obviously when hybridised with other types, this trait continues.... Personally, I prefer the rose shaped ear of the Greyhound,..but this is purely a cosmetic preferance and as you know,..looks mean nowt... All the best, stay safe, Old Phil.?

Hi,..now listen up fellah,...I've never met you and have no problem with you.... I have not slagged your breeding off,.I would not do such a thing,...why would I ? You say I contacted you with regards to using your KC registered Whippet over my Cattle Dog hybrid? Well, that is simply not true... WE may have chatted about where I was heading with regards to my breeding plans for my hybrid Heelers,..but talking is not doing..At the time you say that I wanted to use your dog over my bitch , I was surrounded by Coursing KC Whippets and also purpose-bred, Racing Grews,...so, I- 98 replies

A 30 mile walk would be impossible in much of Southern England....back in the day,..it was always, 'light on, light off'...anything else would get you in a fight or in the jail....Freelancing is a dangerous game, and folk that think it is all fun and games, need to give their heads a shake....?

Not sure how far back lads want to go when talking about prices for jukels? I can only talk of the 60's through to the 80's and 90's ,...after that, I went legit, and things changed...? My crew was never competitive, so we did not require a world beater ,..we just wanted plenty of game to sell... Most dogs back then were £45 tops and Gypsy longdogs were the best buy for us,,...we did not look after them,..we knew no better...? Mind you, I do remember Fred Smith bringing FlyBye down from the North and his dad coughing up £100 for the animal.. Old Flash (FlyBye) was a Bi- 98 replies
