  1. Is it, by chance, for DS in Ireland and arrived frozen in the post? If so its a rat I trapped in my garden and froze, then passed on to a mutual friend who posted it to you I assume? Good to see it all done and dusted after all that!
  2. Try Joe777, I think he might have room. Where is the pup now?
  3. I run a campsite so worked near on every single day of it so far - I feel f****d! Looking forward to close season and time to relax and get the dogs out properly!
  4. I hope it's nothing too serious UG? I can do later but not earlier. It would be good to know asap if the date changes as I will have to alter some arrangements for work cover and such.
  5. Dan Doherty is a good vet, my bitch got bitten through the toe tendons and had to have part of the toe removed, he did a great job with that. Just waiting for the season now to see if it holds up. Fingers crossed. Glad yours is on the mend.
  6. If you actually wanted it you would drive there.
  7. The world is full of idiots, avoid them. I'd be more concerned that it's bothered you enough to come and post on here about it.
  8. Fair enough ug, first week it is then.
  9. Absolutely fascinating dw. What you are doing is my wife's dream. I don't suppose you are ever planning to do guided hunts like this? It would be the present to end all presents as far as she is concerned!
  10. First week in Nov works for me just about but second would be better
  11. Sounds good. Have we got definite dates yet?
  12. Still no answer .... How do you tell if a lurcher is "possibly" good for deer? Is it more likely to be good if its dog aggressive?
  13. Looks like its fitted straight to the rifle, same as a standard scope just 30 mil rings
  14. Who said anything about being an anti? Are you lads a bit paranoid? I said its an odd question because its an odd question. I'd still love to hear how you can tell what's a good "possible" deer dog.
  15. How can you tell what is a "possible" good deer dog? All reasonably made lurchers could be good but without trying you'd never know and that would be illegal. Seems an odd question to me
  16. Has anyone tried one of these? Seems very cheap to me if its as good as they say.
  17. Where you are I would have thought the easiest way would be to go and ask the locals, there's bound to be someone doing it, usually is in any fishing community. As for mesh sizes, down to local regs, although you might find there are none there. I've always fancied it after watching it done in Africa, never quite got around to doing anything about it though
  18. I'm pretty sure he wasn't actually planning to cancel the trip. There's nothing wrong with having an opinion, everyone's got one, I think the assumption that no one had a clue what they were doing was what was annoying. Anyway, as Jai said, it'll be an experience whether we catch a boar or not and as long as the lads taking dogs are aware of the risks and prepared for it it's their call. I have no doubt there will be more smaller quarry to keep us entertained if we strike out on the pigs. I'm looking forward to it anyway.
  19. Had a similar problem with turkeys on a place a few years ago. Finally turned out to be Polish temporary labour from the farmer next door. b*****ds!
  20. Beautiful, think I've seen that cross or one like it while staying with friends in Macroom and driving out towards the coast
  21. I love the way some people can judge a dogs working ability by a photo, very talented. Back to the topic, here's a pic of mine. Not the best pic but got bored trawling through to find one.
  22. Dates for BBQ are good for me. I would prefer November to October if I had the choice but I'll make it either way. I think it will certainly be an eye opener!
  23. The only bit of a rabbit I eat is the loin fillets, dogs ferts get the rest before anyone moans, and they work ok on a bbq. Need oil or marinade though
  24. Agreed roybo, their heart has to be in it but the need for flexibility comes when you realise they maybe average at one thing but excel at another. My system is to work with their strengths rather than force them to do a job they are not cut out for. Things might be different if they were no good at anything but that's never happened to me. Another point is whether you should expect them to excel if you are not excelling with their care and conditioning. Everyone does the best they can with training, time, fitness, food etc but it is a lucky few who can dedicate all their time to a lurcher
