I'm surprised so few people have replied to this So far we have; Me - 3" target at 10 yards 75% of the time Youcanthide - 3" target at 10 yards 99% of the time BPR / scheme sport - I don't know exactly but looks like 1" target at 10 yards 100% of the time (show off ) Ruggers - up for a challenge! Tell us where you're at now? I've seen Ocset shoot and he's pretty good too I don't really know where I'm going with this, was just thinking there's more topics about making them than shooting them so thought I'd ask. So far I'm the worst which is reassuring lol

That's good going, had a few young rabbits recently for work but hardly had time to do anything hence putting the range in the workshop as that's where i spend all my time at the moment! I find phases where i use the catty a lot seem to coincide with the lurchers breaking, makes lead walks less dull.

I like whirriers, my wife has a jrtxwhippet and he's a bloody good dog. Not as fast as the lurchers but a lot more durable and hard as you like.

I am interested to see how good people are with their catties. Obviously we've all seen BPR's shooting, which is impressive, but I'd like to know if that's everyone's standard or top end. I'll start, I have phases with the cattie where I use it everyday but then months where I don't even pick it up, I do ok but would like to do better. I've shot a fair few quarry species over the years but I've shot at a lot more than I've hit! I used to plink a lot as practice but have recently set up a little range in my workshop. I can hit a three inch target most of the time at 10 yards but have just c

If I had to deal with half a dozen Ollie's I think I would have some kind of break down! I was thinking half a dozen Gwens, the lurchers / whippets in hand, and just the one Ollie. Have a mooch round your estate, there'd be no escaping into the maize with that lot behind you!

I like them alot. We had a lot of fun with just Gwen and Ollie ... imagine what we could get up to with a few more like her!

Maybe so but its an easy place to spend a couple of hours without seeing anything anyway, its a big wood with lots of bendy rides so you can only cover a small part at any one time. I am just interested to see how long people think an alarm like that affects the area. I shall try and avoid that doe's patch from now on though!

This evening I sat on a ride in a quite a big wood I stalk in. I left it half an hour to settle then gave a few peeps on the buttolo and instantly had a doe come charging in, she came in to about 20 yards, and eyed me up (I was sat on the ground, not in a seat) she knew something was there but wasn't sure what. She came close, barked, bounded off, came back again barked a bit more, went off came back etc. This carried on about five minutes before she finally buggered off into the wood barking all the way. I stayed put but saw nothing else, which isn't unusual in this place. This is the sec

Fair enough mate, just go easy and I reckon she'll be fine. BB, not all dogs make top notch bushers but most terrier types will be good enough to push rabbits out for your lurchers. It sounds like she just needs to get some confidence up and that will come with time.

Mate, you have been told this before. Its a young dog in a new home with no hunting background. On top of that you don't have an experienced dog for it to learn from and you are obviously putting it under pressure to hunt. Let it be, it needs to settle into the new home, build a bond with you and get used to being out in the sticks. It's probably hating the whole thing by now, you are taking it out time and again expecting it to hunt when it's struggling to even get through the cover and keeps getting left behind. If its panicing about getting stuck and left behind by its new owner its not goi

Don't ferret it now, it'll be nowt but grief. You were right first time, a mooch with a decent bushing dog and your youngster will be best, learn the ground and make sure there are no dangers. Can be nasty cliffs and drops in old quarries. Save the ferreting for later on.

Very nice. I managed to get out for a couple of hours at the weekend and tried out my new toy, a fold up high seat. I blanked but enjoyed watching a young roe doe pottering about below me till she finally got my scent and bounced off barking! I was quite impressed with the seat, an ebay special for the princely sum of £83!

Lol, the keeper here has similar problems but I like to think i'm helping out with the feeding platforms, not so sure he sees it that way though. I'm planning a trip soon mate, its frantic with work here though, we open 23rd May, but definitely want to come for a weekend if I can. Ideally like to combine it with the mayfly hatch? * not sure why its not showing Ideation's post, mine doesn't make much sense without it!*

I rely on mine to find a couple of rabbits every few days, it's part of my job feeding raptors on the estate and I'd rather let the dogs pick a few up than have to go out with the rifle. Shotgunned ones are no good as the pellets would kill the birds which would be a bit counter productive. No serious hunting for me though just what they find on walks.

Swallow on 10th April, and first Cuckoo today!

Sounds too cheap to me, I paid £700ish for two collar set which I thought was a good deal. They are bloody good though.

Shooting ok so far, had a little walk out tonight to get a mate some ferret food and succeeded. Was hoping for a couple of pigeons but made do with a rabbit. The gun seems to suit how I shoot ie; if it takes me by surprise and I take a snapshot I've a good chance of hitting it but if I have time to think I'll probably miss!

I'm fairly new to stalking to be honest, I seldom stalk in the Winter as I am out with the dogs, ferreting, shooting etc. To me Summer is for Roe bucks and occasional fly fishing, the things I don't do in the Winter time. Whether this is bad management or not I don't know but I only shoot for my own freezer and prefer prickets over mature bucks when possible. I am certainly not interested in Antlers.

Well, for better or worse I picked it up today. Took it out for a walk round the woods with the terrier and shot a pigeon and squirrel, the pigeon with the first shot with the new gun which has to be a good sign. I missed a couple more but that's pretty much par for the course whatever gun I use! I'm pretty happy with it so far

Hmmm ... 5's it is then. Anyone else had similar experiences?

Bugger. Simultaneous post. Fox digger, that is exactly what I was worried about hearing. What kind of ranges are we talking about?
-
Thanks for the input. I have read all the reviews, good and bad, as far as I can understand they are ok if they are looked after and you stick to 70mm cartridges. I am buying new with a warranty so if I have problems I have options. My concern was with the length of barrel but it sounds like its not going to make much difference so the gun is ordered.
