Dont be daft Liam, i still have faith! Theres always next time!

As some of you know i've been in Ireland the last few weeks hunting. I've had a great time with some very generous people but for a variety of reasons have blanked on every trip... ... until now! I really came here to do daytime stuff but as thats not going so well i finally bit the bullet and took the lurcher out on the lamp in a few fields behing where im staying. The weather was crap, still and light, but i persevered and found a few runs and the bitch caught two. I've never been so pleased about a couple of bunnies!

Shhh ... i'm trying to stay positive here!

Will do, is Bree back in action again?

Blanking just makes it all the better when you do connect!

He's a sweetheart isn'y he FoD, he's right though. He could have thrown some handy pups put across Gwen or similar

The long suffering Jigsaw once again took me out today in atrocious conditions in pursuit of his goats. We walked some glorious country in some truly unpleasant weather but sadly, despite finding lots of very fresh sign, we drew a blank. A couple of times the sign was so fresh that i was expecting to see them at any moment but it wasn't to be. The day was topped off with a bacon roll and a coffee as we chatted about dogs and the rain poured down the van windows. Thanks again Liam

I will try a boneman, i use one for the lurchers, but i'm pretty confident in my vet as he does the local greyhound track. You never know when a second opinion has the answer though so its worth a go.

Lol. Wish i hadnt but its too late now!
-
Yeah, im up for that. I have no doubt he'll work as part of a pack, it would just be handy if he would do it on his own as well!
-
I'll bring him to yours Owain on the way back from Ireland and you can see what you think.
-
Bugger. I was hoping you lads would have some kind of 'magic wand' idea for me to try lol. Looks like i need to start thinking about a pup. I'll wait a bit though and give him a chance for whats left of the season then if he's the same it'll be time for a pup in the spring i suppose.

When he's on quarry or can hear or see another dog at it he is as he always was if a little slower maybe. He just seems to have lost the desire to search for it. He's coming up 7 now so its not unreasonable to slow down a bit especially if he's hurting. That doesn't help me much though! I suppose he needs an apprentice but i'm not really wanting to take on another dog especially if he might sort himself out

Thats what i think too. Its hard to believe that hes just lost interest. Before he was brought back into work he had the all clear from my vet and the horse physio (perks of living on a stable yard) so any ideas on what to do next?

My bushing terrier has never been known for lack of drive, in fact has been a bit of a menace in the past for for taking things that little bit too far. That all changed back in june when he jumped out the truck and injured his back. He was partially paralysed and i thought it might be the end of him. It wasn't and with alot of TLC and vet bills hes back on his feet and able to work. Hes lost alot of muscle in his rear end which doesn't seem to be coming back regardless of excersize and domething has happened to his drive. He wont search for quarry himself but will hunt it once anothe

I think you'll have a lot of fun with him. I have a whippet russell x which has surprised me time after time

Nah ... not too bad but theres some over here i've not a clue what they're saying half the time! I've been out again today with another fella, great hunting in different ground. Had a few good hunts but no catches again although could've had a dig but managed to call the terrier out. He's struggling enough at the moment without that!
-
Speak to Allan, he had a litter due last time i was up your way?
-
Cheers jigsaw. I was expecting mine to be wrecked as they're far from fit but they seemed sound enough after. I've been out bushing local the last couple days but the terrier is struggling. The cover i've been at is a bit much for him single handed and his age and injuries are starting to show - either that or im making excuses.

I'm in Cork for the next few weeks with my lurcher and bushing terrier. If i'm totally honest the terrier is outclassed by the new place and working on his own. I would love to meet up with anyone with a functioning pack and get and see them work. The invite would be reciprocal if you ever happened to be on the other side of the water. Cheers

I'm up for a meet. I'm in ireland for the next couple of weeks but be pleased to meet after that

We tried for hares today but going out after goats next weekend. We'll see how that goes!
-
It gets that way when you get a bad patch of luck, im sure we've all had it. It's certainly not due to lack of effort and it's not easy country to hunt. We'll try again at the weekend and I'll be out inbetween

I want to say a big thank you to jigsaw for taking an unknown tourist out on his home turf today. It was good to meet him and some of his pack in such beautiful surroundings. We walked the hill for a good few hours and saw a few hares but nothing placed right for a decent run. We finished the morning with a bacon sarnie in the local town. It was great to get the chance to hunt in a different country and i hope to get out again next weekend and see his famous goats! The terrain is very different from home and my dogs are shattered! No pics as yet as im on my phone and cant see how to d

Kps, if you ever want to breed your bitch i have been looking for a bitch of that kind of stamp to put my whippet russell across. He's 7 now and been a great dog for me. Got no pics as im on my phone but there a lot on my old posts. A few people on here have seen him work and could vouch that he's worth a look at.
