  1. You have had some good advice on here. I rescued my terrier at 7 months from a pet home, he had never been walked and didn't even know his name, couldn't cross puddles, got lost in long grass etc. Basically like an 8 week old pup in a great big body. It took some work and some time with my friends bushing pack but he turned into a really good dog, does everything I want, bushing, ratting, flushing and more. His only failing is that I never managed to break him to ferrets which is a real shame. I would recommend getting the ferret thing and the bonding done first, then get her used to being out
  2. Big mongrelly terrier, mainly he's a bushing and cover dog but turns his hand to flushing to the gun very well. He knows the difference and keeps much closer when its just me and him than when he's working with lurchers.
  3. I am just about to buy a Hatsan Escort and have been offered one with a 24" barrel. The gun shoulders lovely at this length but I am concerned about the short barrel. Will it affect range? The RFD says not but any first hand experience would be appreciated. The gun will be mostly used rough shooting, mooching about and a bit of duck flighting.
  4. If I ever want a laugh to cheer myself up I have a look at this section, never heard so much fuss over a pigeon.
  5. As above, single shot or multi, falcon, rapid, AA S300/10, excaliber etc wanted. Contact through PM please
  6. Just used him for a partial toe amputation, not the chattiest bloke in the world but seems to know his stuff. Recommended by Ideation so fingers crossed. Most vets will do pups tails if they know they are workers. Mine wants to see FAC / SC, what that proves I don't know but I suppose it covers their arse.
  7. I am going tomorrow, not been before. is it big?
  8. Laurens dog looks like he is getting stuck in! Quite a change from when I came up
  9. That is my wife, if you are getting this excited over that profile picture I could probably give you a heart attack with some other ones ... but I wont. She is slightly wierded out by your interest but the pictures harmless enough and you've kept in clean(ish) so carry on.
  10. Once you've been on a while and posted more I think you can start sending PM's. If in doubt ask a mod
  11. We are in West Sussex and do a bit, we haven't started yet but after shooting season the ratting will pick up. I'm sure we could give you a chance to get your dog started. Drop me a PM after Christmas is out the way.
  12. Good topic! Do you hunt them loose as a pack or singly from slips?
  13. I've never needed to but know people who do. It's simple enough, ring 101, give them the names of the farms you are working and your name and they give you an incident number. It wont stop them checking you out if they get a chance but it will speed things up when they do.
  14. You might get a better response posting this in the trapping section?
  15. A quick easy way to make one is to buy the hultafors version of a basic mora, just as good and cheaper, for £3.50. Use vice, hammer and chisel to knock off the plastic handle leaving you with a good blade with a stick tang. Drill out the antler to take the tang of the blade and fix in with two part epoxy resin. Bit of shaping and sanding and you're done. These were done with blades from midnight and red deer antler, to be honest though I prefer the hultafors blades as they aren't so thick.
  16. Well done mate! It just shows the difference the right night makes, that must be twice as many as we even saw when I came out with you! I wasn't planning on going out last night but it was so perfect when I let the dogs out last thing that I had a quick look local, three out of four and back home within the hour. If I had kept on I reckon it would've been a good night but had things to do this morning!

    Sunday Mooch

Herdwick and I took the dogs for a mooch this morning. We were supposed to be ratting a pub but the place wasn't really do able until cleared out a bit so we arranged a return trip next week, picked up the rest of his pack and took a walk on the farm. I only had Ollie with me as Willow is out of action and my wife had taken the other two out thinking I was ratting. We had Ollie, all herdwicks Russell bitches and only one lurcher, Midge the beddy whippet grey. We have left the farm alone for a while as there aren't many rabbits and what was there were a new breed of super rabbits, train
  18. I'd agree with Buster, leave them alone for a bit til shes older. Sounds like shes doing well so don't rush her.
  19. Yes, or so im told. The bed is 1550mmW x 1600mmL
