  2. I like the brown one ,both nice chuncky pups .
  3. When I was looking for a pup I phoned a fella in Notts ,he said he got a dog and bitch that went back to blue and growler I think he said growler or nipper . maybe at one time this line worked and worked hard for lads running them and I'm sure they will b lurchers that have a bit of minshaw still in them but not as much as some may think ,a lot say minshaw to peddle pups just like peddlers use george N to get shot of bedy terriers .im not saying they don't do the job just that the peddlers try pull one over you to get rid . good luck in your quest . mooch
  4. You can meet some good lads in running dog game ,I've also met some I'd never give time of day to . dont matter were we come from they good and bad in us all . most the old travelers good honest folk mainly it's just a few that give them bad name. mooch
  5. That's right ,what I was saying is a reverse would make good rabbit and mooching dog ,don't think they would b much difrent to bedy whippet in size . im more than happy with my first x,i was surprised just how quick she can move when needed .she very quick to learn ,good with dogs and becoming a good guard ,she knows when some one about .
  6. Did the pup go on to make a grafter , back then it was about making due with what you got ,not saying they wasn't better or worse than juckels today .but no way would they b all the xs ya see today ,and if you did find a pup other side uk it was sent by train ,never see parents just taken the mans word they are what he says . to many dogs are given up on far to early today ,it wouldn't have happened so often back then. like man it would have to earn its keep ,just the way it should be . the dogs haven't changed so much but the folk who keep them
  7. You go back to 50s befor the motorways ,it wasn't easy to get about back then , most who had a lurcher would have got it local and worker to worker .
  8. iv always liked the deerhound x grey ,used to see them regular but haven't seen one working in yrs . Bedy grey dh grey would make a decent worker ,as long as the dogs got a good trainer and parents grafting . deer h grey x collie grey b good juckel as well .
  9. I agree mate ,no way to treat a pet dog never mind working dog . she had the cheek to stop her car and tell me she wanted to use my male whippet as stud lol . told her he's only put over working stock ,see her face lol . mooch
  10. It's good to get youngsters out my boy to bizy with his mates and gals.,
  11. My brother offerd to work them for her couple yrs ago and keep them fit ,but she was going todo it herself. iv never seen them out the yard mate ,she kept big heavy guard dogs yrs ago and same with them , i dont even know if they see shows still . some cracking blood lines as well ,just don't understand folk like that. Mooch
  12. Don't matter what's in them as long as they doing the job, lurchers we had around wagons, trailers was always lurcher x lurcher and go back to greyhound every now again ,they didn't care as long as they worked .
  13. Some one picked her up ,I had one stolen few yrs ago ,we did same posters etc but no luck ,then 4 yr later we get a call from vets miles away, family had payed good money and he was family pet by this time .reslly loved etc so we let him stay with the family ,they told us who sold him to them ,nothing came of it . the joys of running dogs mooch
  14. A lass I know as two bred this way, one his Dave plats deer x grey x bedy grey the bitch is deer x bedy . she says she works them ? i don't think they ever see a days work ,they look the part and I'm sure in right hands they b good at the job . her mate as six well bred whippets but they don't even get walked never mind work.just left in crates on top of each other in spare room. shows and ribbon chasing is only thing they ever see .
  15. Have you made up your mind which pup you keeping cj .the dad looks s bit like the dog on run rabbit run DVD . i wish you all the very best with them mate , b good to see a pic when they bit bigger, atb mooch
  16. Well said ,you have to start somewhere and for anyone wanting to produce collie line these be ideal , i think they work fine on dales etc,I see a reverse collie lurcher on Simon whitehead DVD and it looks a handy juckel ,like the owner of it said he don't need speed of a whippet on land he works and that's what it all comes down to . the right x for land we work ,it stand no chance on golf course but up on the dales, hills it suits him . i know lads gone out buy a pup with out thinking what land they going to run ,dog fails and they move to next dog ,on face book plenty young dog
  17. She looks cracking did she produce any good pups .
  18. Pontypool but my mam went to north wales soon as I was born we stayed on Anglesey until I was five then back to fens .my mum would travel to wales every couple yrs when we was kids ,she'd call it our holiday .
  19. You had some good times with her and well worth the 60 quid ,love coursing pics like this .
  20. Both look good, two of my favourite breeds . good luck with them.
  21. Yes he stayed around that area ,I think Henry gaskin lived up that way as well ,he was into his coursing and had some good juckels . a lot of traveling men work down pit ,my grandad was horse dealer but the pit was a regular income for them ,he also supplied Welsh ponies for pits .
  22. You did well with her tomo ,got any pics mate . i might have a drive to melton in couple weeks see if get few hens . its a nice day out ,haven't been for yrs .
  23. Most my family live to good age ,all the fresh air and not a stressful way of life like in a house and all the bills etc to b payed ,no as long as we fed and warm that's all that mattered .
