  1. I was speaking to my uncul other night ,he's 92 yr old and he's forgot more than most no about lurchers and this was his words . all the xs you see today at lurcher shows are the same as what they had in 50s apart from Salukis but as a kid he remembers a fella having a brace of lurchers that looked spit of a first x grey, sal belonging to a German gypsy who's family fled the war . he also said it's not the dogs that Chang but the folk keeping them !! to many hobby hunters and Rosette chasers , as for % i don't bother with it , he always says best dog is the one catchi
  2. First met David in 80s and like you I found him a nice anufe bloke who always willing to give advise .
  3. Looking good c j nice healthy looking pups .
  4. I'm looking to get another first x or put her to a first x in couple of yrs , greyhound was just a thought and thinking about it a grew would be better ,
  5. Yes maybe putting her back to a first x be a better match than a greyhound .
  6. First x bedy grey do all above and more ,I have bitch here just over 22 tts .and this x take to retrieveing what you want very easy in my opinion .the x got great nose ,and plenty anufe in the tank to make good mooching jook . the only thing this x lacks is wind like you get with sal,but if I wanted hare dog I'd have a sal x .im not saying they karnt take hare just not coursing jooks . im thinking about putting a greyhound over tink once she's proved herself .
  7. A lad I know got a cracking pup, must be 9 mts now it's ruff coated ,he does a lot of long netting and ferreting and that all dog will do and bit picking up etc when shooting ,and he's really happy with it so far .
  8. The few I see over the yrs worked well and that's above and below . folk put the breed down because of Brian . i like the look of them and they best rating tyke going in my opinion .some have weak heads that's only prob I see .
  9. He's happy ,kind of thing I need ,I was going to buy one but all sh@t ,look forward in seeing finished .
  10. The queens ratter ,he used foxs for rat ,I got a book somewhere ,I find it post pics .
  11. My uncul had one as a pet and it was like a dog ,he also had a badger cub that stayed with him for yrs . badger got run over ,heart Brocken he was .
  12. I was told that fox cubs in captivity are like pups until 7mts old and they change "call of the wild" . apparently 70% of cubs get realeased again but around 30% can not be released as they become to tame ,and one of these could be trained I suppose . rat catchers used them in 1800s so it can b done ! they belong in the wild

    Buzzard

Iv been watching a pair of buzzards over last few yrs ,they always nest in same tree and it's nice to sit and watch them for a while when out with my lurchers . anyhow they nested as normal and over the weeks the chick grew and the parents started to learn it how to hunt . we was walking along the paddocks when I noticed 3 buzzard on the ground 30ft away ,one was jumping up and down and looked to be stamping feet at something and then the other one started jumping . mu lurchers moved forward and spooked the hawks so we carried on walking ,on way home we walked back the same way
  14. You could be right , Iv made lots mistakes with training over the yrs and that's how we learn or should do .
  15. I only met David couple times yrs ago when my uncul and brother had pups from him and over the yrs iv seen a few good Hancock bred dogs ,and one that was useless . Lots slag him and his breeding but theres also folk working Hancock dogs and very happy with what they have and go back time after time for a pup . its all about putting in what you want out of a jook ,and yes of course they will be failures and other lines that are working parents etc but do you know what's in them ? With Hancock you know what bloods gone into the mix . i was told he was ill and very frail looking ju
  16. Go on face book you will get a pup, lots of whippet x bedlington litters get posted for sale
  17. Folk pay £1000 or more for kc French bull and stupid money on poodle xs , so paying 400 notes for a well bred lurcher pup is a no brainier compared to the above .
  18. Names come from those who want a name . plenty of good hare jooks around owned by folk who would rather stay quiet about it ,my family always had good pot fillers and if any one asked if the dog was a good one the answer was always "couldn't catch a cold "I sell her to ya if you won't " and no more was said .
  19. Got one here that's always trying to get bees and wasps ,I keep thinking your going to regret it one day .
