  1. Well, back up at the shoot last night to check the traps, I arrived a little earlier than Hugo’s dad so grabbed the .17 and pointed it out the window of the motor, on getting to the entrance of the farm I looked down the track to see a crow feeding it’s young, no doubt with some poor pheasant’s eggs, from there nest raiding along the field fence, so the mother got it first and the the brancher. After that I popped my head over the hedge of the garden and spotted a hopper in the middle of the veg patch, so I chucked another one at that, a miss, but it was very close and I gave it a centre parti
  2. Cracking pictures and a lovely looking front stuffer, it’s great to see people like yourself still putting them to good use, unlike me who is obsessed with new modern plastic rifles, well it’s up to the shoot for me now to check the traps and hopefully bash a few hoppers and maybe a ginger, wish me luck ?
  3. I love shooting them with the little.22, a 15 session certainly goes a long way to help out your area, the amount we have just on our little shoot is mental, sometimes you can go up, not even see a rabbit but one thing is for certain you will definitely get a few squizzers
  4. Thanks for setting me right on that ? that explains why a lad I know in west Yorkshire sell to a game dealer without DSC it wasn’t that long ago that you needed nothing to sell to game dealers around here, a phone call was all that was needed and if they wouldn’t take it you just took it to the local working mans club in the boot of your motor, sadly now I give all my game away, 20 years ago it was a good little earner, £1.50 a rabbit, wood pigeon £ 1.00 each, pheasants £2.50 each and when we got venison you could do half a weeks wage off one animal
  5. I’m 90% sure that if you want to shoot it to sell to a game dealer you must have dsc at least you do around these parts, but if it’s for yourself you don’t need one on private land or where you have permission, I’ve never bothered with it and a few proper stalkers I know don’t have it, the people I know that do, sell to game dealers or think a bit of paper makes them look like they know what they are doing
  6. I’ve just had a look at that. That’s a good way on for this time of year, it must of been an early litter to be that size now ?
  7. Cracking job, with a bit of luck you’ll get to clear up a few cubs on your next visit ?
  8. You were lucky it was the police and not gazza with chicken and a fishing rod ?
  9. I never bother ringing the police, I know why in some cases people do because it can save a bit of bother from so called do gooders, some people ring them just out of spite, on more than one occasion people have rang the land owner when they see me and I have no problem with this, I’ve had a couple of run ins with the police, once I was stopped when leaving some ground by a traffic car, as she approached me I dropped the window and before she could say anything I explained there was a rifle in the back, the look of horror on her face was a picture, she shouted at me to stay there and ran back
  10. I’m 99% sure it’s 1/16”, is it to heavy, even winding it down you will still only get it down to about 3 1/2lb, you can get it down to about 1 1/2lb with a JARD trigger kit, but that will set you back about £240 and it voids your warranty
  11. I wouldn’t of thought so, unless she was a armed robber
  12. You want to get some deet spray, ( jungle juice) I always have it in the motor, if ever I’m out with someone I cover myself in it ( don’t offer them any ) and all the flies go around them ( bugger, I shouldn’t of told you that, because I sometimes go out with you ? )
  13. Nice work, weather permitting I’ll be out Friday night at the shoot, the traps were checked again today but still nothing
  14. Your not the first to do that, at least you remembered the bolt, that was what I left at home? were the foxes around the cow fields
  15. Back up to check the traps and still nothing, so a couple more hoppers from around the farm and off home, someone else can go and check them tomorrow ?
  16. I’ve never seen a nightjar, last night I was watching the biggest barn owl ? I’ve ever seen hunting the barley and then watched the woodcock flighting out, like little flying pigs
  17. Well 7 was the bag, so I’m happy with that as it’s only a small field and a couple of rides that are shootable at the minute, I seen a few roe which is always good as it wasn’t that long ago that it was very rare to see them up here, I also sat for a few minutes watching brock play fighting and chasing each other around, just the way a warm Saturday evening should be spent ?
  18. Traps checked and empty, baited with fresh rabbit, Now just sat on an old concrete drinker at the side of the barn watching for bunnies and the foxy fence line, life is good ?
  19. Oh yeah, deadly accurate fat air rifle ?
  20. Two in quick succession, my old girl will be happy ?
  21. Back at the shoot to check the traps and the rabbit patrol around the farm for an hour before dark, got to keep Rodger rabbit off the veg patch ?
  22. Another run up to the shoot last night, mainly to set the traps as they have been in there current locations for a week now, it’s amazing how fast this place changes this time of year, now there is very few places to call them to so bait and wait is the only real option before the combine, with no luck on the forestry rides we moved off to a clear fell on the edge of our shoot on arrival Hugo’s dad spotted something through the thermal on the other side of the small valley ( next doors land ) it was a cub, mooching along the tree line, we then spotted a second, giving it 10 minutes scanning fo
  23. At the distance you will be shooting foxes the .243 and .223 act in a very similar way, using similar bullet weights so wind isn’t much of an issue with ether round, at the minute I’m putting 70gn ballistic tip for fox through my.243 purely because the rifle likes them, in the past I used 58gn, as said the up side to .243 is it’s deer legal and a 90gn sp is ideal for this task
  24. I’m still in that phase myself ?
