A few more from around the shoot, I’ve missed being around these parts, watching the roe and fallow. My plan was to go back up tonight to have a go at the gingers but I’ve had a phone call say a fox has been in the hen house at another property, killing everything, it’s left 2 in a field so I’ve told them to leave them where they are and I’ll be up tonight, for now the shoot will have to wait
-
Still a few birds about, mainly around the farm where the old girl feeds them and where I have a feeder that was filled before lockdown, so I’ve just filled that one again
-
Back up at the shoot for the first time in about 2 months, mainly to see what needs doing as we have committed and ordered the birds, to say a lot is an understatement. First job is to sort the foxes out, not as much activity as I was expecting but I’ve found 2 active earths so far and ones been having a good old time of it snatching hens, now for a run over the other side to see what’s going on over there, before marking a plan as to what gets done first ?

Wow, that’s mental, how can you have a season on a pest
-
Something like that, I’m fine with the social distancing, what we do can be done on your own on private land, so go do it ?
-
I’m out now, sat on the side of a hill on a sheep farm waiting for fantastic mr fox, drove here on my own and I’m following what Boris said, BASC’s advice is follow what the government said and don’t come crying to us if the law gets stroppy with you, ?BASC

I wouldn’t let him loose with a spud gun ?

The warranty is with vortex, so it doesn’t matter who you get them from, a mate of mine dropped a rifle and damaged a scope, contacted vortex U.K., told them what he had done, sent it to them and they sent a replacement, no proof of purchase needed?

Another good series to watch on YouTube is jacks game, Jack charlton with some proper old characters

Them beaters at the beginning want to put some effort in, there would be none of that lackadaisical beating in my line ?
-
Yeah, still got to social distance though Dave, that suits me, I don’t like getting to close to longshanx anyway
-
Get it done, when we are set free we can go rabbiting with it ?

42 - 1978 - 2020 ooooow spooky ? -
I used to eat loads of it with my old man when I was a lad but after years of gutting hundreds of them the smell put me right off, now doing them in salt water takes that just gutted smell away
-
I’m not the biggest fan of rabbit, but longshanx told me a while ago to bath it in salt water overnight before cooking and it works a treat, the missus wouldn’t eat it so she got a ready meal ? she doesn’t know what she’s missing, but because it doesn’t come rapped in plastic she won’t eat it

You need to get at them mate, I turned this chap into this curry, although it was a bit hot because I went chilli ? mental it was very nice ?

For me the .17hmr is a very useful tool around most of the small areas I shoot for fox, the .243 using 70g sako would always be my rifle of choice for fox ( with 90g sp’s for deer ) p.s. please don’t shoot at foxes with a hornet at 200 yards, especially a .17, that’s a bit far with quite a large margin for error ?

We have matting to go around it when he’s on it, don’t leave it down because the dogs pee on it -
You take it easy with that gout, you need something to occupy your mind when you can’t get out, I can send you some of the wife’s knitting patterns if you would like to learn a new skill ?
-
The hornet is a completely different animal to the HMR or any other rimfire come to think of it, this is only my opinion but any rim fire is capable of taking fox under 100 yards if used correctly and although the hornet been a small centre fire will take fox comfortably above 100 yards, I would always pick the .223,.243 etc over it
-
I wouldn’t wish that on him ? joking ?
-
It’s a fix, he won the last English poacher, he knows me and now he’s won this, that lads life couldn’t get any better ?
