To right I am, that’s why I shoot very few bambi, I never seem to have the time to butcher them and after I’ve been let loose on the gralloch you probably wouldn’t want any of it ? You can’t be that far from me, I’m in Stockton and the shoots about 40 odd miles from me
-
Mate, you are welcome to come a take one, no money need change hands, it would have to be after combine and when the winter drilling have gone in so maybe December/January ?
-
I like to think of it as good living Dave ?
-
Them gingers have it good up there, the amount of road kill along that road you would think they’d never have to bother with my birds

Were you coming up from Sutton bank, my mate hit a fallow at the wass turning last year, it ran straight into the drives side front, the entrance to my shoot is half a mile past that turning, we’ve got some nice roe up there now and a big head of fallow, it’s just getting the time to have a go, I really should make the time, I could probably take people out and when they have shot a deer just say “now you deal with it I haven’t got time, I’m off home, drop my share off when you are sorted”?

I had a sit under a tree for 10 minutes while I was up there and got to day dreaming about the season and what it will be like to see them birds coming over these trees and how many I’ll drop from the sky ( in my head it was raining pheasants, reality is a lot different)

I’ll have to find a way to get it in the air, we have a no ground game rule ?
-
Well, by early afternoon it got to much for me, not so much the heat more the flies, it’s the worst I’ve seen it up there, still I got a bit done so I’ll just keep pecking away at it, everything has shot up over the past couple of weeks, some parts I took the quad the grass and bracken was up to my shoulders. One other random thing was when I pulled back into the yard I stopped to see the old girl as she was hanging her smalls out, when she said “what’s that in the field” it was a bloody big peacock ? that’s the first time I’ve seen one of them up there and I’ve no idea where it’s came from, b

Back at the shoot this morning to make a start on the ride cutting, oh joy, started with the soft wood plantation, got to build myself up to tackle the other side

Yeah, it’s the 4-16x50, they are terrible as the light changes, but once it’s dark they are a cracking little scope to use on the lamp, this one has the illuminated reticle that works well on the lowest setting, if you turn it up it reds everything out

I’ve shot a lot of foxes with the .17, I bought a browning T bolt first on a bit of a whim, I’d just got shot of a tikka T3 varmint barrel .243 because it was just to heavy to carry around and I’d been out with a lad that had a .17, I was amazed at how far he was shooting rabbits with it, I had a go and instantly wanted it and a couple of years ago a keeper I knew was changing career and offered me the cz, gun cabinet, 400 rounds, 600 cartridges and a box full of bits and bobs for £250 so I thought I might as well have 2 and replaced the .243 with a T3x light ?
-
Cracking result, you can’t beat the hmr for some close quarter fox action, I like them that much I’ve just treated my spare cz to a new second hand scope, quick zero hopefully tomorrow and away we go ?

My missus rang me all giddy this afternoon, my mate is her hairdresser and rang her to say he is back open on the 4th, she said she has made me an appointment as well, part of me is glad about this because the other option is letting the missus do it again but the northerner in me is thinking about my wallet ?

That looks like a place you would want to be on a warm sunny day, the problem I have with a good high seat is I tend to fall asleep in them, I find the older I get the more I nod off in random places ?

They can shift, they run like a fat bird collecting her bingo winnings

A little bit off topic but me and my mate mosh were once out running his bitch saluki on hares ( must of been pre ban ) and a brock boar broke cover and instead of running away it went straight for the bitch, the badger was fended off but it goes to show their killer instinct because it wasn’t bothered one bit about me and mosh, all it wanted was little Lola

They are far worse than a fox, they will eat anything, I’ve seen them dragging a lamb away that would be to big for a fox to tackle, where as a fox tends to have set routes and works a lot on smell, badgers are foragers and cover a lot more ground eating everything they come across, they are top of the food chain, no matter what the like of Brian ( the badger tw*t ) May will have you believe

How can anyone hate such a beautiful little mouse exterminator ???
-
Have a look at the hawke vantage range, you can get a 3-9x50 for about £100 and they have started doing lifetime warranty, I’ve seen second hand ones for about 40 quid

As far as I know ( I know someone who did it in Cumbria) the licensing needs to be applied for through DEFRA, if they grant the license after doing their checks and providing the land is in the cull area the shooter is named on the license and is the only person who can shoot, they must prove themselves to be a competent shot ( the lad I know is involved with the deer society) I think there’s a little training course, he only did it for a couple of months, he said the legislation is a mine field

Well no foxes turned up so I called it a night just before 12, I’ve left a couple of rabbits out so I might have a couple of hours one night this week, I think I’ve got a day off this week so I think I might have a go around the shoot with the .22 and a shotgun for a change, just some general pest control I’ve had it a long time, all my torches are nightmaster mainly because I know the lad who runs it ?, they are really good, one of the best things about them is you can buy every part separate it’s been a long time since I’ve had a go at the clays, I’m terrible with a

Sometimes it’s just nice to get out and watch the world go by, I’m just sat on the bails now watching the sun set, I’ll give it another half hour, if I see a fox I’ll have a go but it’s just nice to be here on my own on a warm evening ?

I decided while the weather was good I’d have a walk around the sheep farm, when I got here the farmer was separating the lambs from the ewes in one field so I thought I’d give him a hand, these are the third batch to go to the mart, the noise the ewes make is heartbreaking but it will not be long before they get back to sheep business, filling their fat faces with grass, I’ve brought the .17 and the .243 with me so a bit of bunny bashing and then I’ll put the caller out for an hour
