That’s something I’ve never done, I’ve never really been into deer stalking I’ve always been more of an opportunist, maybe it’s time to learn a new skill ?
-
I could of taken a neck shot the other night, but for the few deer I shoot it just didn’t seem the right shot for me, like you say I can wait for another opportunity when the shot is one I’m comfortable with
-
I don’t agree with all that, I’ve been doing this a long time now and by far the most effective way to get the fox where you want it is to bait, they are a very inquisitive animal so if they get a whiff of something they will check it out, cat food is ideal because it’s small bits of smelly sh*t so they can’t just pick it up and run and if you flick it about a bit it keeps the occupied, still nothing beats a good old mouth call, baiting and digital callers take the art of foxing out of it a bit i do agree with shouting and whistling, this should only be done to stop a fox that’s running

They are an absolute menace up here, forestry used to trap them, poison them poke the drays out but now for some reason don’t bother, I’ll be taking the semi auto hatstand with me next time and shooting the drays out, could be a bit of fun one night after work

Few more from the shoot today, a lovely place to be ?
-
I could of brought you some squizzers from up at the shoot if I’d thought on
-
I took the little.17 with me because the hoppers are still hammering the veg patch, none to be seen but the amount of squizzers is crazy, I shot 4 from the same tree one after another, if I’d taken a shotgun I could of easily shot 20 in a short time, maybe it’s time to make a couple of feeders so the kids can have a go at them, I shot something like 70 over the winter and you would think I hadn’t shot 1, they are doing a lot of damage to the trees, not just stripping bark but once the bark is off they are chewing into the timber

If this turns into a battle of wits your f*cked ?

Up at the shoot at 7 this morning to carry on with the ride cutting, the wheat is on the turn and the oilseed rape looks to be ready to be sprayed off, so with a bit of look we will be able to do some proper fox control in 3 or 4 weeks, just before the birds come, I went into the pen close to the farm because the lad who is replacing the drinker system said there was a lot of wasps in there, he wasn’t kidding, 3 large nests in the feeders so they have been evicted, still a fare bit to do, but we are getting there ?

Cracking result ?
-
That’s some shooting ? I’ve never had 100 bird day, come close once or twice but I’d of definitely had more shots than you
-
Just out of interest Ian, would you neck shoot it face on, I’ve just had this discussion with little Hugo’s dad and he said he would where as I said I wouldn’t take a shot at a deer that was facing me, then again I don’t shoot many deer

Face like a bag of smashed crabs

Longshanx will have to get you a picture, it could be a good little earner for him selling them for people to put on their mantelpiece to keep the kids away from the fire

Stick with Mandy and you could have a happy ending ??

Well not a fox to be seen so I called it a night just before 12, drive out of the farm my phone rang “ farmer John “ asking if I’d had any luck with the foxes, after telling him I’d seen nothing he went on to say “ you should try the front fields, I seen two cubs crossing the road into the front field last night” this information might of been more use to me earlier in the day when I spoke to him, anyway he told me about another field they have rented for grazing in walking distance from the farm and that there’s a small wood at the rear that might be worth a call, with a bit of luck I’ll get

A cracking result Bernard, glad to see you are getting on with the fat air rifle and it’s doing the business for you ?
-
So, we have came back to the sheep farm for that buck, walked the long way around because the wind was all wrong, spotted him in next doors wheat making his way to our side, we lost sight of him so moved to the bottom of the field, Hugo’s dad seen him coming through the hedge when we were expecting it to be in the grass field next to us. So it didn’t offer a shot, just looked at us face on before hopping the gutter and away, if it wasn’t such a magnificent beast I would of head shot it also if we had stayed where we were when we first seen him the shot would of been on, I’ve now remembered why

I’m not playing if there’s no prize ?

Well there’s 15 minutes of my life I won’t get back, do I win a prize

A wander around the shoot this evening for no other reason than I wanted to go for a walk, obviously I had a rifle over my shoulder and tonight’s rifle of choice was the .17. It was 50/50 if I was going to get soaked as it seemed to be raining all around me but it was warm and I thought I’m waterproof so set off, passing the beast field next to the farm I shot a couple of rabbits that would no doubt be heading over to the garden to finish off the row of peas they have had a good go at, heading over the far side of the shoot I stopped when I noticed some movement in the bracken, rifle up on the
