I’ve never used the 20g soft points just because I’ve never seen them in the shop, I have used the 17g hollow point and they do serious damage for such a small round, come to think about it they would probably be better for fox
-
I agree, but these are northern pigeons I know a lot of people think this isn’t a fox calibre ( although it’s on my ticket for use on fox ) and after using it for a good few years now, I would agree if people are shooting over 100 yards or body shooting, but head shooting under 100 it does the job very well, that said a .22 rim fire would do the job just the same but that’s not a legal fox calibre around these parts

People may mock this beefed up air rifle, but it shoots some distance to good effect, I’ve shot a lot of foxes with it normally between 70 and 100 yards and last night I shot this little rape muncher at 176 paces, I had to pace it out because I couldn’t believe I hit it ?

Up at the sheep farm although 90% of the lambs are a good way on now there is still a troublesome fox about bothering stock around the the farm. The farm hand has been baiting a hedge back in a small paddock where the tups will spend the spring, so with a good idea ( or so I thought ) of where it is coming from and a shot of between 50 and 70 yards I took the .17. On arrival I thought I’d walk to the top of the farm where two fields have been left after a failed oilseed rape crop, the amount of bird life in these fields is unbelievable, but a couple of rabbits was what I was after for a Saturd

There’s a few pictures in it but not as many as what you are used to in “spot the dog” and the “ hungry caterpillar “ ?
-
That’s looks just where you would want to be if it was not full of wildlife botherers letting their wild beasts run free, fingers crossed this madness ends soon and they can sod off back to work and their can’t be arsed to take the dog out attitude

I’ve had a few different makes, nothing over a couple of hundred quid and these are by far the best I’ve had, I also use vortex scopes on my centrefire rifle, a lot more money than the Bino’s but the light gathering is superb
-
For the money I don’t think you will buy better than vortex, I use the cheaper 8x42 crossfire at about £150 for about £80 more you can get the diamondbacks, all are lifetime warranty

?, it’s not all flat caps, whippets and woodbines up here, although I wish it was, I think I was born in the wrong decade, that’s exactly how I’d like life to be ?
-
I watched that a few months ago, simpler times ?
-
I’ll have my name in your flat cap for that my good man?
-
Good luck fella, I’d be on the flying Canadian cows in a hart beat, cracking bit of sport and a group that size will soon graze a field off ?
-
You are certainly having a good run of them, are you calling them, baiting or just letting them wander in
-
?, all right, steady on fellas the sun was in my eyes?
-
They are only little you know, at 20 yards they would be testing for the air gun lads without that kind of magnification ?
-
He has just this minute rang me, firstly to say thank you for leaving dead rabbits all over the back of the farm and secondly to say he found out who the dog’s owner was and he’s gone through them like a dose of salts, he’s told them that a pest control lad was on last night and was about to shoot them ( I wasn’t ) but he stopped them from being shot ? it wouldn’t surprise me if he tells them they have killed stock and he wants compensation
-
To be honest where they were I wouldn’t of shot them, if they were in with the sheep behaving in the way they were that would of been a different matter, the farmers response was the usual one, if it had been one of next doors horses or a couple of lost ramblers he would of said the same, it’s very much his little island and in his head he makes the laws around these parts
-
I only wink at the nice boys Dave ??

A phone call this afternoon and I knew I would have to give Britain’s got talent a miss, apparently a farmer’s lad went to check on the pet lambs and a fox jumped out the pen and bolted off down the field, so I got there in good time, taking the .17 as shooting close to the buildings the .243 was out of the question, when I arrived I thought I’d have a walk about maybe shoot a rabbit or two for a bit of bait. In one of the fields I thought I’d spotted the culprit but it turned out to be two dogs running riot, as I hopped the fence one of them came charging towards me, I immediately jumped back

Yeah she has mentioned it once or twice?, She won’t recognise me when when all this is over and I’m allowed to roam free again without the stresses of a job I hated ? -

I always admire people who are really good at what they do, I have a mate who is a Bricky, he mainly does sandstone farm type houses and what he can do with odd shaped blocks is amazing, me on the other hand, I’ll have a go at anything but always fell like I’m blagging my way through life ? -

My little mate Hugo told his Mam that he wanted a climbing frame like the one at school with a swing, she said to him that they are to expensive at the minute and sent me a picture say can you do this, so I got a few bits together and went this morning, all I’ve got to do is fit the tyre swing when I get the fixings, he looked over the moon looking at me through the window, still not really understanding why he can’t come an give me a hand, but at least I got it done quicker without him running around with my drill putting holes in the fence ? -
Thing are different in every county, not just in Scotland, I’ve had an open ticket from day one and never had to have land cleared for a certain calibre, I was told I just need to submit a variation for my choice of calibre, I know someone who has .308 on his ticket and had this before he had any land to shoot it on, I also know someone in north Yorkshire that has .22 and is only allowed to take it to one place ( other than the rifle club ) and has to inform them about his movements. There’s no consistency in any of the forces, I’m glad that mine seem to part of the sensible few
